- Seven hockey players for the Ottawa Senators had to apologize this week after a private conversation they had in an Uber was recorded and released publicly. Real fam, do you censor yourself when you're talking in an Uber or Lyft because you don’t know your driver?

I need to do that. If I’m in Lyft with my friends, it’s one thing because sometimes we will get a lively driver who we will have fun with. But sometimes I just don’t want to talk, but then feel rude if I put in my headphones.

It's kind of hard not to listen to people conversation when they are right next to you. I won't jump in an say anything but hell yeah ima listen if you're next to me. If you don't want me to listen then stay silent the whole ride. 😂😂😂😂 Why do I have to avoid listening to you speak when you're in MY CAR!

I'm cool with it, probably bc I'm a people person. When I get in "THEIR" car, it becomes a public conversation. I'm usually on the phone with the wife, coworkers, or kids, and they chime in. I love talking and I'm goofy. I usually text if I want privacy or wait.

I noticed when I am in the public other ppl do that, I may not randomly talk to ppl out in the public, but come on it's just friendly people with communicative skills and nothing more Jeanie. Who says the conversation is lighthearted? Unless invited into the conversation, you are to mind your own business. It's just basic manners.

I had a situation like this. So a group of about 7 of us booked a study room to study for an upcoming organic chemistry exam and these two girls in our study group were speaking VERY loud in a quiet room, so of course the other people started chiming in and later on she got offended by some comments they had to say about her conversation 😒. If you don’t want people to chime into your conversation, don’t have a private conversation in a quiet room filled of people 😒 even if they didn’t chime in we could still hear everything perfectly 💁♀️
Ok here’s the difference... they’re apologizing because they thought th conversation they had wasn’t gonna be out in the open and now it is... not because they’re sorry about what was said ! Just pay attention to that ! If they can’t say it in public... then they’re definitely gonna be doing in private at home ! Doesn’t change anything! People will always remain ignorant...the only thing they’re gonna do is change the way they say things not how they think

on the other hand, they are entitled to their personal opinion, the fact that someone recorded their conversation is an example of violation of the privacy and in my opinion they shouldn`t have apologised

I just never talk in an uber or lyft .... I just look out the window or play on my phone. I can't even stand when people talk loud on their phones in the store & stuff I feel like those conversations are meant to be some what private.

I've only used uber 3 times during a trip to San Antonio. First dude didn't say a word, which was awesome cuz I hate small talk. The 2nd one, the woman, was super chatty but we enjoyed it and her stories, made the trip quicker. The 3rd guy was a bit strange, but got us to where we needed to go. But not in any of those situations did I censor myself. I'm a nobody, who cares what I had for lunch or who I'm beefing with lol

I take the lift line sometimes and I noticed whenever I’m sharing the ride and we pick someone else up I just say hi and they never say hi back lol like don’t worry I’m not trying to have a conversation it’s just basic acknowledgment that were in the same car lol ps I totally use Lyft drivers as therapist to get my money’s worth hahahahaha

trizzytrix it’s not selfish. Their job is to drive you from point A to B NOT talk to you. My Uber driver talked my ear off “much to my annoyance” yesterday and I was polite and responded to his questions but when I got out of the ride he asked me for my number and Facebook. I know some Uber and Lyft drivers are encouraged to talk to their riders but I would much rather they just do their job and leave me alone.
U act like the driver is just doing a favor... they’re getting paid to do a job which is drive!! Not chat not eves drop

I’m a lyft driver here in Los Angeles and I will not start a conversation. The passenger initiates the convo first than I speak. I’d rather have someone feel awkward with silence than annoyed with carrying a conversation. Silence is peaceful ☮️ just saying 😏. I’m cool with either option. Id prefer a balance like tam tam said. I don’t want to have a dry mouth due to talking for my whole shift with every single passenger. Just stare out the window or use your phone to occupy that’s what I can say 🤷🏻♂️

Thats soooo tru you have to be careful. It was a shared ride & I was in the back seat of my aunt we were in a bit of a heated discussion & I noticed the girl in the passenger seat was recording us on snapchat. I figured it out just as she was being dropped off

This just feels wrong.That driver had no right to release that footage! Also, I drove Lyft for a brief minute, and I would love when people would be on the phone because it created a less awkward driving experience. They'd be in their zone and id be in mine. I may have overheard some convos, but best believe I wasn't going to chime in.

I use to drive for Uber, I honestly didn’t really butt in a convo unless they included me...or if the group was talking loud, and the joke was just too funny not to laugh at. I don’t want to be eavesdropping, but if it’s that personal, then whisper, text, or have the convo later. Sometimes when my Uber driver gave their two cents on me and my friend’s convo, the convo got 100x’s better, so I personally don’t mind it. It’s interesting getting to know little fun facts about strangers, you will be surprised on what u learn. But anyways, it’s my car, so if they had that attitude that Jeannie haves, they can get the hell out, don’t tell me what to say in MY car.
True! I guess it is a bit diff from the usual taxi service vs uber wherein the driver owns the car u are riding.
