This is really underrated. This concerto as well as your channel deserves more views.

The first concerto (op27, E minor) is also very splendid---

Hm... underrated... Hardly. Just remember how "highly regarded and well known" the piano concertos of Thalberg, Tausig, Clara Schumann, Sinding, Swetlanov, Paderevski, or even C. Franck or Liszt are, or the violin concertos of the once Liszt-inspiring devil's violinist Paganini! Not all great pianists are the Beethovens or Mozarts of their time - composition-wise! Great pianists (of violinists) keep trying to compose their own concertos (not to mention their etudes, preludes, variations, phantasies, you name it), and often they succeed, but, just as often, they do not. This is not one of the successes, either. It is far from being so good as the sometimes criticised Liszt concertos or those of Franck, which are also not really in the main stream so what do people expect from the otherwise once great pianist Emil von Sauer? Still, worth a couple of listens so thanks for the upload.

Have to take notice that Emil von Sauer was around at the same time as Liszt, Brahms, Schumann, Chopin, Alkan, Heller, Hans von Bullow, and many other great composer and pianists. Possible one of the most demanding times to be a composer, the bar was very high, but von Sauer pieces are something, they are hidden gems for sure, as many other works.

@@thecozytrader00 True. But that's why I mostly compared this concerto to lesser composers - and I'm afraid, even as a Hungarian, I don't consider Liszt among the real greats. I personally can't stand Sinding or Alcan, but I feel the concertos of others I mentioned, especially of C. Frank and Clara Schumann, are a lot better and enjoyable than this piece. Or shall I add Sgambati, Emil Hartmann, Reinecke, Ferdinand Ries, de Gref, Otto Malling, Massenet, or especially the Scharwenkas or even Grieg to my list of preferences to make my point clear?
