"Remember the Night" the ANTI-Hallmark Channel Christmas movie! LOL! (And I've enjoyed probably too many Hallmark Channel movies...). Written by the great Preston Sturges, one of the pioneer writer/directors (although he didn't direct this one). My friend Bret Blevins who has created the art for my last several book covers is a big fan of Remember the Night. I ordered a non-USA region edition for him with a lot of special features, including two vintage radio adaptations w/ Fred MacMurray reprising his role in both versions, Babara Stanwyck hers in one...and Frank Capra actress Jean Arthur taking over Stanwyck's role in the other! "A Chaplet of Pearls" sounds intriguing. Curiously, the premise reminds me of my own childhood arranged marriage to a charming 16th century girl. She was discovered in a handbag in Victoria station. There was a mix-up in baggage claims and one of the neighbors ended up bringing her home. We grew up together. I was always putting my chewed bubble gum in her hair. I think I was 30 at that point in the relationship. In my case, she was the one who called it off. Except for the occasional text, we don't talk much anymore.
How exciting to receive two new CMY books! I'm going to put them on my TBR! I am also going to put Penny Plain on my TBR. It looks like it's right up my alley! ❤
It feels like the cozy village life books are quickly going to become cozy Christmas village life books Kate! 🎄 So happy you’re enjoying the CMY books and looking forward to seeing what you make of Henry V!
Kate (and Jo!!), those CMYs are absolutely stunning!! 🤩😍 And The Heir of Redclyffe-oh my word, this BOOK!! And I really did love The Christmas Mummers, it was another 5-star Lottie for me! I highly recommend it!
I have to admit I am one who felt like The Heir of Redclyffe moved too slowly. And so many words! I've read a book by Lynn Austin, but not a Christmas one. Not that I need another Christmas book to add to my list...! 😉
It was so nice to find a booktuber with similar reading tastes to me. I was looking for some new Victorian authors to read in the coming year. I'm thinking Charlotte Mary Yonge might be one of them. Happy Reading 🎄🍒🎄🍒
Love 'Remember the Night' ... a couple more heart warming Christmas oldies: 'Going My Way' and 'The Bishop's Wife'. Those Charlotte M Yonge editions are beautiful! Merry Christmas!
So many enticing reads! Whenever I watch one of your videos, Kate, I find myself writing down at least three or four new titles. 😊 Regarding documentaries, have you ever watched Victorian Farm or Edwardian farm? Combines history with rural nature.
@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 Thank you, Celeste! Oh my goodness - I could talk all day about those documentaries 🤣 We adore them all. The boys are tied for their favorite either being Secrets of the Castle or Full Steam Ahead.
Thank you for the recommendation of "Remember the Night." Have you seen "Come to the Stable?" One of my all-time favorites, from 1949, I believe. It brings a tear to my eye (but in a good way) every time I watch.
Okay, I have just added a bunch more books to look for on my list. 😂 I have an annoying head cold that is preventing me from reading, but it's increasing my want and need to read. Thank you for another great video!
@katehowereads I gave up my audible subscription when I gave up almost all our other subscription services and I only used that for Great Courses and nonfiction. I tried to connect with the library online and get them that way but I never figured it out. I am very tech challenged.
Yay! I needed a new audiobook and our online library actually has a copy of Midnight on the River Grey. It sounds exactly right for what I want at the moment. And now I’m also trying to find a copy of Remember the Night.
What lovely editions of the Yonge books! By the way, I have you to thank, Kate, for introducing me to CMY a couple of years ago when watching one of your videos! I have an old leather volume of 'The Heir of Redclyffe', but it is sadly falling apart. It is very difficult to source Yonge novels, I find - at least in Australia.
@@Tasman_Tea So glad you like Charlotte Mary Yonge! Yes, she is also hard to find here so I'm very grateful that so many of her books are on project gutenberg.
