For the plastic pans you can use heat to soften the glue and pop the shades out without breaking them.

Yes! I should have mentioned that! I decided not to use flame so close to my camera. Didn’t want to tempt fate 😆

You can make an empty magnetic palette out of any of the Colourpop palettes w/ the cardboard packaging (the ones where the shades pop out easily like your Disney one) w/ just a metal ruler & x-acto. I did this w/ all of my CP 12 pans & one 15 pan. You could prob even do it w/ megas I just don't own any. You pop out all the shades and then with a straight edge (I recommend a metal ruler bc during the cutting stage the blade can slip and cut thru a plastic ruler--mine is from the $1 store) mark a perimeter leaving at least 1/4" all the way around. You then use the ruler again to cut along your marked rectangle thru the thin paper & foam to leave the perimeter intact. Just slice thru w/ a SHARP x-acto or even $1 store utility blade until you get to the magnetic sheet. Buy a pack of utility blades at the dollar store as you can snap off the tips to reveal a fresh edge. And yes there's already a magnetic sheet no need to buy one! Then u can put any shades in any palettes and the 12 pans will fit 18 and the 15 pans will fit 22. Or put any pans inside. Great for travel bc they're thin & shadows are snug top/btm.

You did so good! The Chocolate bar was the first depotting endeavor and sadly I wrecked the whole thing. Now I use heat on the plastic and I push a heavy duty thumb tack through the plastic back and push the pans out. The heat softens the glue and also the plastic so getting a tack through is not hard.

I should have mentioned that I chose not to employ that strategy bc I didn’t want flame so close to me camera 😆

when it seems difficult to pop out a dish from a palette, i always practice first with a color i don't care for! :)

Next time you are devoting a palette with plastic packaging take a dropper and drop alcohol along the edge of the shade to get between the metal pan and the plastic. This is to help loosen the glue. It will also moisten the shadow some to help prevent cracking.

There is a lighter or candle trick where you heat underneath the shadow you want to to remove. Then it pops out easier.

Hi. I dont depot palette. I scrape the pan on paper and then repress it in a magnetic pan. A lot easier and fun. I then take whats left and make frankenshadows.

Oh and one more tip--the skinny 1 cm utility blades at the dollar store (they usually come in 1 cm or 3/4" sides) or an x-acto blade are great for lifting out pans bc they're a super thin edge w/ a plastic nice handle.

I came here to watch you depot Too Faced, since I have been hemming and having over whether or not I want to do so myself. I was surprised to see the thin plastic tray, and said to myself "Oh, now she could just grab some scissors and cut out the ones she wants and then...oh...oh no....She didn't do that. Well let's learn about repressing because I'm a klutz". 😅 Thank you for the educational video! I feel more confident about trying to take this on in the near future. 💜

I almost wish you had kept the metal pans for the Colourpop palette to recycle depotted colors into( scraping out the discard colors you didn't want).

Try placing a piece of parchment paper over a pair of flat irons. Check it every 5-10 sections to ensure the glue melts but plastic doesn't.

I found for my palettes just using a palette knife and digging underneath the shadow usually pops it out fine without destroying the packaging

I know it's too late to tell you this, and I'm so sorry for that (I'm way behind with my watching list) but if you put a bit of rubbing alcohol between the pan and the plastic, and then use heat, you'll find it way easier to depot things. Xxxx

If you take a safety pin, you can potentially scrape that hard pan top layer off.
