My jaw dropped when that woman said her husband died during her 2nd year of medical school. So sad...
It really would have been nice to see some older non-traditional students.
Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo really stood out to me , although all the people on the panel were wonderful ; Lucy shines like a star from her struggle to the moment of this panel just wow left me in awe . I wish them all a very prosperous and successful life .
Same! I wish I could get in contact with her.
Mm
I like this it's so honest and raw in a good way. I was homeless for a bit in college and I was and still am ashamed of it and how I got there but I'm proud of myself and how I got out of it.
Who’s watching this in 2020 during coronavirus? These young people are now the physicians who are in the most danger of getting covid19. Thank you for everything you do to keep the population safe!
Four years later and still benefiting future med students. Thank you UCs for being so supportive of non traditional students!
Crying at 5:37, it's so easy to be ashamed when you see "perfect" students applying beside you.
I’m always worried about being judged as a non-traditional student. This made me feel more confident.
Wow! This was the best panel I have ever seen. Thank you!
Thank you so much especially to Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo and Anthony Lim. Actually all of them gave fantastic advice 👍
Thank you so much for this! I am in Human Resources and I am having a major career crisis right now. I feel that my career choice was really wrong for me. I want a career where I am of true service to others. Something that is a real challenge, and a career in medicine is really calling out to me. My under grad degree was in sociology, and I think I will go back for a post-bac in premed.
Watching this video really inspired me to keep pushing no matter how much I doubt myself or my current situation. Thank you all so much,
So glad I found this...
Anthony Lim, Libby McNiven, Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo were AMAZING!! I think my personality is more like Melissa. We both have to work on being more friendly, lol. I'm so proud of Libby for not letting life engulf her!
Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo .....wow wonderful advice
This is so inspiring!! So glad I came across this video
Wow they are preaching the gospel!!! this is what we need to hear!
I’m super blessed that I ran into this video! Thank you!
Wonderful panel ! Great People ! Super Inspiring !
This was a really great panel. Thanks to those who participated and also UCD for posting this.
This was a great panel discussion
This was great! Thanks for having this panel discussion.
Just so inspiring
Waw... super inspiering! Thank you so much for sharing!
Great video. Thank you!
ahhhh this is GOLD !!!!!!
Wow great panel
great panel and discussion...however,
these are babies........hardly unique. There are many middle-aged persons who have taken on medical school, PA, NP programs.
would have been more impactful and diverse, to have at least one over 35 panel participant .
I agree. I'm almost 40 and looking into medical school now.
Does anyone know Melissa Polk social media? I would like to get in touch with her if possible.
Thank you for sharing! I will use this as an example on the Ask Dr. Applewhite Radio Talk Show. Here's a recent episode: Can We Really Help Adult Students and Employees Avoid Dropout and/or Burnout? Learn how Homeless Adult Students, including those who are Veterans and Parents succeed at school and work tobtr.com/s/8335509 .
Medical school in my country takes 6 years and Im already in my 30s. So I dont know if its a good idea
Kristina Korenkova you are young!!! Do it :)
I’m in my 30s too & I’m doing it! You can do it too!
I'm almost 28. And i just gained admission. Medicine here is 6 years as well.
I will do it also
Awesome students. Great advice.
How the hell do you get into UCD without having close to 4.0 gpa? My GPA wasn't the greatest 8 years ago..it was mediocre.
By not being a white male
"I had a unique situation" -- I ended up having a child during undergrad.
Unique, eh?
yes its unique! most women would abort or drop out of the program. Not many women are able to do what she did especially applying to medical school!!!
Glutamate Sulphate other would be discouraged and you are so right the would drop out. She used her situation as an advantage
