  • PC Gaming on Ryzen 7can be done with the BEST value, and today we find just that, coupling the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with a $25 Cpu cooler, 3600Mhz DDR4, b550 and then putting it to the test against the i5-13600K and fitting both outfits with an RTX 4090. Intel vs AMD hasn't been this good for a long time in the tech space. Though do you really need to spend that extra with either outfits? (also sorry for late review today).

The fact that the cache is so massive means if you skimp on the RAM you have less of an impact on performance. Also the fact that it doesn't overclock (mostly) means you can get away with a basic motherboard that only has the features you need and nothing else. Then you can take any money you save and put it towards a GPU.

I put a 5800X3D into my Asus X470F the other week, and whilst I expected it to do really well in sim racing titles, I was still blown away when I ran the benchmark in Assetto Corsa. At high settings @4k with graphics enhancing mods, I was getting ãn average of 60FPS with my 2700x, with the 5800X3D I got 145FPS! And it showed me (despite being 4k) my 1080Ti was bottlenecked by the 2700x, it is now the GPU that is the bottleneck. Roll on 7900XTX!

I might have to make some videos myself when I get the 5800x3d and 7900xtx to see how much more fps I get VS my 2700x. UPDATE: I went ahead and bought an rtx 4080 because I started streaming on twitch and the 7900xtx has those thermal junction temp issues witht he vapor chamber design. The Ryzen 7 5800X 3D I think is kinda like the GTX 1080ti of CPU's, truly ahead of it's time when it comes to raw gaming performance (Considering it is punching above it's weight vs DDR5 CPU's while using DDR4) and on AM4 (An almost 5 year old socket on it's last leg), I personally went with the i5-13600K because it's more recent and I stream while gaming so the e-cores will help a bunch there and for video editing etc. Buying into AM5 would've represented a bigger investment and Idon't have that money, people say oh 13th gen is on a dead socket already but I don't upgrade every year, in fact my current cpu is the i7-9700, I have an RTX 3060, it slightly bottlenecks the 3060 performance at 1080p, but the main reason for upgrading is because I stream and it's struggling to deliver decent frames in the game I play since it's CPU bound.

Have you seen the Tech Deals video with the RX 6600 vs the 3090Ti? Different CPUs were used, but the cheap Radeon beat the previous flagship GeForce in Far Cry New Dawn at 1440p high settings. Granted the 6600 was paired with a 10900K(which bottlenecked it at 1080P) and the 3090Ti paired with a Ryzen 7 1700. In games at least, the 5800X3D performs similarly to Zen 4, which is a pretty big jump over most Zen 3 CPUs(save the 5800X3D). If you get the 5800X3D now, your 3080 is less likely to be bottlenecked now, and in a few years(or whenever) you decide to upgrade your GPU you should be able to keep the 5800X3D with less concern about it bottlenecking your then new GPU versus doing an entire platform upgrade. But if you were to get a 5800X3D in the near future, make sure you get a good deal on it. It's been as low as $330 here in the US(or lower even) and I wouldn't pay much more.

Hey Brian what do you think of mllse Rx 580 for 110 aud? Would they be a safe bet for very low end cards not mind on?

Thanks for the video, I got a similar setup for a friend but with 3200MHz RAM and a RTX 3070 Ti.
May I know do you know what is the sweet spot for the 5900x? I am thinking how much TDP to limit it to without losing much performance.

I have a 5900x, I swapped out the 3200 ram for 3600 and ran the curve optimiser in ryzen master. I'd like to see this setup compared to x3d

I tought all oc options are disabled in bios with the 5800x3D? Does it depend on the MB If you can change something?

It will be interesting to see if they hit the same notes with perhaps a 7800x3D or 8800x3D on AM5 that would be just as tangibly beneficial.

    I have a 3700x and a strix 1080 TI. Will it make any sense upgrading to a 5800X3d ?

I upgraded my 5800X w/ PBO2 to a 5800X3D which can't really be OC'd. With a 3070 Ti at 1440p, Horizon Zero Dawn ultra setting, DLSS Quality, went from 112 FPS to 138 FPS (Now runs at 150 FPS out of the blue but I did just upgrade the GPU driver and pushed my 3800MHz RAM to 4000MHz and set FCLK to 2000?) Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Ultra settings and RT shadows only went about 8FPS to 123 avg FPS. In both games, I used the built-in benchmark.

Brian, did you get different results from the x570 TAICHI MB?

Mine comes tomorrow. . . mind you I am more getting it for the long term than to be high end now, but I like odd games too that benefit from the cache

Hola, where can we find these settings on other brand's bios(MSI pro vdh-will look for something similar, but only ever set up PBO, never actually touched voltages)? Right now on a simple 4 pipe tower cooler (70-ish gaming), and any improvement is welcome thank you

I'm about to build a new pc, in Victoria here, the 13600k and the 7700x are the same price roughly. If I get the 7700x with the cheap b650 riptide mobo, would I be able to socket in the last generation of am5 on a cheap board like that?

I found -30 mv worked best with my setup and gave me higher all core clocks and lower temps. Tuned the memory a small amount also, but didn’t see an appreciable difference in performance. Also, best to install a fresh copy of Windows if possible after installing this CPU.

Mine clock stretches with any kind of negative Voltage offset (determined by comparing Effective Clock to Core Clock in HWInfo). Did yours not clock-stretch with the negative offset?

I love how you used teamgroup ram. A very underrated company and the ram is incredibly good.
