    Cal, many thanks for putting up this video. I made the lift spacers out of wood, 3/4" ID, 1 3/8" OD, 1" long with a 1/4" slot to slip it over the shaft. Have run several loads over the last two days, no UE error! I think the thick grease and the tubes/pistons are supposed to act like dampers or shock absorbers but are just not doing the trick. Not sure why the lift kit works, but cannot argue with success. My LG washer is WT4870CW but has identical support rods to yours. Great work!

    cal camp - you rock! Did exactly as you did, and after 1 week of various size laundry loads and speed settings (~8 total) I've never had the uE stop the cycle requiring me to start it again. Wife's been dealing with this for 5 years, but not any longer [now how much $ do I owe you?!?! :-) ]. Thank you; and to echo you - LG sucks in all ways (customer support, product, warranty), and I'll never be a customer of theirs for any products.

    I used 3/4" PVC I already had in the garage cut in 3/4" sections. This seems to have fixed our LG washer. 6 loads and no UE errors. Much cheaper than the new washer my wife wanted.

    Probably going to be the most effective repair for this issue.
    We've owned our LG washer for 9 years and THIS has been the issue that's been persistent with this machine. I've tried the spring on the top of the drums, bumper-foams to prevent the drum moving....I'll be cutting up some PVC pipe to follow this suggestion. Seems to be the most practical! Too bad I just found this now, could have been useful 5 years ago! 🤣
    This may just save my marriage!

    Thank you. Going to try this. Pulling my hair out watching the washer going and going. Water bill too. Water saver....my butt. Lg machines are notorious for unbalanced error and the repair guy told me it's a software issue with sensitivity for balance. If you do everything on bulky that removes that software algorithm. Worked great for a year...but now the problem is back. This may be the fix I need.

    My LG WT1101CW aka (POS) gets to rinse cycle and slowly spins while adding water and never finishes (not always getting UE error) could this still be suspension rod issue? Even does it on empty load. I added springs and that worked on two loads then issue started again.

    Hey, just wanted to say thanks. Added the spacers and waiting on the first test load now. Whether this fix ends up working for us or not I appreciate you taking the time to share what you learned.
    UPDATE (WITH SUCCESSFUL FIX):
    The spacers raised the basket but I still had the UE error. I inspected the bottom of the washer and found the pinion nut had come loose and was on the floor under the motor. It appears a heavy load caused the motor shaft to contact the floor and the motor spun the nut off. This can happen if your springs become worn and the feet are in the low position. I installed the nut (and washer) and added some blue loctite. It is now running as good as new.

    Hmmm.... interesting.
    It is hard to believe that it is the spring that wear out. The question one has to ask oneself is something obvious.
    What is exactly the job of a spring, be it here or in a car etc?
    The job of a spring is nothing more than to keep whatever it is supporting from hitting the ground.
    Other than that, spring is actually a cause for problem. In other words spring is a necessiry evil.
    So the only time you need a spring if it is broken and nothing more or if it is so weak that what it is supporting is hitting the ground.
    However what is real important, the device that count is shock absorber, a must have.
    Why?
    It is the shock absorber that smooth out the spring's constant energy release and therefore it dampens not only up and down bouncing but sideways.
    How does it control sideway motion one may ask?
    Consider no damping action in the up and down direction, as the weight goes up, it never goes up straight, never. Same with the weight in the down direction. In other words it is hardly if ever it is plumb to drive the point.
    With absorbing the energy of the spring, the weight is not able to climb too much nor is it allowed to go down too fast and further it can not travel all the way since the energy is absorbed.
    Instead of say traveling up 2 inch or down 2 inch, it can only go up and down 1 inch. The weight does not travel far enough in which side way motion gets pronounced.
    It is the side way movement that need to dampen.
    Washing machine out of balance sensor does show out of balance for up and down motion. It is the sideway movement that cause problem.
    The question here is obvious. Where is the shock absorber in this system?
    Where it is implemented?
    It is there. But where and in what form?

    Thank you for creating this video. I'll be adding this modification to ours. I think the bearings also take a beating over time and a replacement goes a long way to keeping things tight. The other mod that is helpful in my opinion is adding a couple extra washers beneath the agitator. This ensures there is a little extra clearance between it and the drum.

    • @citionriver
      @citionriver 2 роки тому

      Can you explain please where do you need to add spacers at the top of the drum? I see rubbing happening and not sure where do I need to put those nuts you are taking about

    • @johnwalshaw
      @johnwalshaw 2 роки тому

      @@citionriver Please disregard the second portion of my comment. Adding spacers at the top, above the balance wheel will break the seel and result in water leaking during the spin cycle. My only design tweak was to add a thick washer below the agitator due to some rubbing if the agitator isn't perfectly flat. But I also needed to use thread locker to prevent the nut from backing out. That requires all is free if any oils and completely dry of course.
      BTW replaced the rods and springs which was an improvement but ultimately the board needed to be replaced and that was the ultimate solution to the UE error problem.

    • @citionriver
      @citionriver 2 роки тому

      @John Walshaw Thank you. I added spacers to the rod like in the video but still see UE error. Agitator looks ok I checked underneath. I ordered today new rods but from reviews ppl say they good may be for 6-12 month only. But I would be happy if they live 12 month rather than buying new washing machine now. 3/4 spacers would not cause rubber in my case but 1inch would if load is light

    We replaced our 11 year old LG front loaders washer and dryer while they are still working to be able to sell them as running units. We NEVER had balance issues with what ever we washed, but is a very very rare occasion, one a year at best. In ONE WEEK with the new washer I had 7 UE's WHAT A WAY TO WRECK a product. I will be doing this fix for a "faulty designed product" within the month. What utter BS they screw people over with this GARBAGE design. Everything is setup correctly, level and the machine is rock solid on the floor with zero movement ( I am a maintenance guy in a large corp.) What do people do when they have no skill to "JerRy Rig" a HORRID design from LG?

Since I've had so many views on this video i have contacted LG about this issue once again and am currently waiting for a supervisor to contact me it has been a week and I am this time not going to give up on getting a resolution....for all of us ......I'll post what they say.....thanks for viewing my video....Cal

    These LG washers are pieces of utter CRAP! This is the third one in a row that has given me a multitude of UEs. LG should be ashamed of themselves. These washers remind me of those low-flow toilets they made all of us get to replace the regular toiles. Yeah, they save you money on water, WHEN THEY CAN BE FLUSHED ONCE. When you flush them 3 or 4 times, that uses more water than the regular toilets.

    BALANCE YOUR MACHINE! I'd guarantee you your machine is out of balance. Your manual is pretty casual about this.
    Get a level or use your phones level and place it on your machine. Another person is helpful to let you know if it's balanced.
    Release the lock bolts on the leg of the machine.
    Adjust till balanced FULLY.
    Run Spin cycle
    Run Spin Rinse cycle
    Load machine and run full cycle
    Problem solved
    Send me $10, LOL

      Good advice if your machine is not level, but mine was that was the first thing i checked, i even thought it was my floor at first but when i got it to my shop re-leveled it on a concrete floor

      I believe most folks try balancing (and re-balancing, and tweaking, and moving, etc.) before ever taking the first screw cap off. Even the best screw legs will occasionally jiggle / vibrate / walk themselves a bit and there's just no way this machine should be that sensitive.
      The other point I will make is about the software. Instead of the refill and retry logic, I wish it would instead just slow the spin cycle down to whatever speed is stable and adjust the run time accordingly. You would likely still get the same effect, within the same time frame, with less water and less manual attention required.
