- At the World War II reenactment, I asked a participant about his small accordion. He played me a song and even had vocal accompaniment.

longer period of time? Btw.: this is an austrian song written 2 years after WW 2. It became a folk classic after the bavarian (=German) singer Franzl Lang sang it in 1968. And, as a funny anecdote: Our neighbour served in the Wehrmacht. He used to laugh about some austrian (Austra was part of the German Reich until 45) soldiers when telling his stories - because the Austrians wanted to have nothing to do with the German Reich when the war came to the end... Though they used to pretend to be proud German fighters during the war..... :-D (And, not to forget: Hitler was Austrian, too. Hitler came from Braunau am Inn.) Our neighbour told me so much about his time in the Wehrmacht and his youth in the late 20s and in the 30s. (When he got inevitably indoctrinated as a young boy, of course.) He died 5 months ago by the age of 98! His brother fell at the eastern front, while he shot down bombers in the netherlands. He was captured by american troops and was very glad about that. I visited him 2 weeks before his death, shortly before corona and - allthough he was very tired and fell asleep while talking - he did not give up at all and even kept reflecting about the nonsense of war. There were only loosers among the civilian populations of all countries. R.I.P. Uncle Gerhard.

@@CuttySobz There were so many of them.... I remember well the stories he told me about his time as a pow. They were given good jobs as mechanics and carpenters in the camp back then. One day, they told a lieutenant, they could build a luxury car dummy and put it on his jeep so that it would look like a real luxury car. XD They asked him to leave the jeep for the last finish. Next morning, 4 of them drove away in that dummy car, greeted the guard and were never seen again... XD (Gerhard preferred staying in the camp.)

Gleich der 1. polnischen Gärtner hätte uns mit einer Laubharke vertrieben, oder uns zu einem lustigen Umtrunk eingeladen. WW2 hier schon zu Ende, und dafür mehr Musik wäre eine tolle Illusion. :-)

Respekt, meine liebe Landsmänner. Dieses Lied, gespielt auf Akkordeon (Schieferklavier, Gitarre u. Geige auch) von meiner Oma, hat meine Kindheit begleitet (meistens Sonntags). Da war in Schlesien Deutsch verboten. Deshalb, haben wir uns überwiegend musikalisch auf deutsch "unterhaltet", um das Deutschtum weiterhin pflegen zu können.
