- We've been using the Xtool M1 10W laser cutter and engraver for about a month now and wanted to show you what we've been up to. We've been turning scrap pieces from other builds into ornaments, magnets and earrings. After experiencing what this machine is capable of, we feel really confident that it will pay itself off in short order. In this video, we will make a new ornament and take you through the process. You'll see where we get our images and what settings we are using for high quality cuts in walnut, cherry and yellow heart wood.
Artisans and Arthropods is a growing direct selling business. We make unique wooden items and sell directly to consumers through websites such as Etsy. We also sell in-person at craft fairs and similar events. Subscribe to watch us grow and get some inspiration.

We want to know what you are making with your laser if you have one! Tell us in the comments 🙂
I'm making sharks with lasers on the fricken heads!!!! And I'm heating up leftovers, on low though. :)
@@JetpackSuperheroes You could have it cut your meal up for you too. Perfectly cubed steak..
@@ArtisansAndArthropods I've been eating erratically cut steak for too long.
Thanks for the great video - you have a new sub. I have the xtool m1 10w and the d1pro 40w. With the m1, I've cut mostly tiered tray sets, with the 40w I usually just engrave.
Thanks for watching! Are you using the air assist for the M1? I really need to get mine installed. I've been so impressed with the cuts without it that I keep holding off and using my time to cut more things 🙂
I do use the air assist with the M1 and the cuts come out nice
Since these are ornaments, I wonder how easy it would be to engrave the image on the back side as well either before or after you pop it out of the block.
It would be easy enough to flip it after it's cut and run just the engraving again. The camera will help to line up the image. Something to look out for would be lens distortion though. It uses a wide angle lens so if what you're engraving isn't right under the camera, the machine may not engrave exactly where the software shows it will. Another way to go if one were to sell these could be to offer personalization on the backside such as a name, gift message or Xmas 2023. Thanks for watching!
thank you for sharing i want to ask you that wood is 6.5 thickness? what kind of wood is that? i want to cut thicker wood more than 3mm plywood
Thanks for watching. That's cherry wood that the dragonfly is being cut out of at 6.5 mm. The bee ornaments were cut from yellow heart wood. I find that almost any solid wood will cut better than plywood. I think the glue between the layers makes it difficult for the beam to punch through.
@@ArtisansAndArthropods thank you , you got new sub!! Make more vdo of xtool m1 i want to learn more for wood project , 👍
@@ArtisansAndArthropods have u try cut mdf wood? How was it?
@@emikoworkstudio We actually have not tried MDF yet , but the XTool website mentions that it is a good option. I feel like I do not often see MDF that is thin enough to want to cut with the laser. Maybe it could get through 1/2" MDF in a couple passes? I'll have to give it a try. One thing to be aware of is that MDF has a high glue content and may make some nasty fumes when hit with the laser. So it would be good to make sure the exhaust is going outside.
@@emikoworkstudio Glad to have you with us! Yes I agree we are due for a new laser video. We are finishing up a fancy cutting board build video now but will plan on a laser video next =)
