I just replaced all caps on my sa-620 but the circuit boards have no letter/number marking for the different components, which makes service a challenge unless you're an experienced tech. I don't know why Pioneer did this. I have other Kenwood & Sansui amps and tuners and they all have marked designations for most of the different components.
Good markings certainly help. I have an idea that it got easier for PCB designers to do this when more CAD came in: the first boards were completely manual. Also we can get many Service Manuals for free now as PDFs. Back in the day, you had to pay some money to buy them. Sony manuals were good but I remember being shocked when Mitsubishi refused to sell me a manual for my expensive HiFi VCR.
