So fucking good. I was blown away when I saw this shot. And that little badge flash the new chief does at the end! I never noticed that until now! Perfect little detail. Beautiful movie.
Thanks for uploading! I wanted to revisit this after watching the movie. One of the most effective juxtapositions of a oner in any movie I’ve ever seen.
I cannot stop rewatching this, the first time I saw this scene I had goosebumps wondering what Dixon would do, and I was not disappointed. very powerful depiction of grief.
Was the breaking of the second window visual effects? Something about how the glass breaks doesn’t seem natural. It didn’t really seem like a practical effect
Fantastic shot all around. Caleb had to get the bloodpack on his face at the exact moment Sam Rockwell is punching him, if you watch it slow you can see his hand come up at the same time and do it, i didn't even realize that until i heard Martin talking about it in an interview, no VFX used. then when Caleb goes down, he has to get up and sprint down stairs to the street and put more blood on all while Sam is actually throwing the stuntman out the window and then goes back down to the street
This is a great shot, but it's not a tracking shot. It's hand-held or likely steadicam. Tracking shot means there's actual track laid down for the camera to move along. I only bring it up so you don't use the wrong term when talk about this stuff later.
Maybe we're both film school alumni, and maybe that's what you were taught, but if I ever told a DP that I want a tracking shot for this part of the scene you can bet their gonna start laying down a bunch of track and trying to figure out how to get it to go up the stairs without being seen by the camera. Then I'm gonna be all, "Sorry, I meant steadicam."
So I’ve been hearing people make distinction between tracking shots and steadicam... since this looks like it’s filmed with a camera rigged on a cameraman, does that make this a ‘steadicam shot’ and not a tracking shot or what?
Easily one of the most impressive and powerful tracking shots I have ever seen.

This is easily one of my favorite shots in a movie. Also this movie is one of the most emotionally effective films I’ve seen.

Well he was definitely rightfully heartbroken and upset about losing Chief Willoughby, so I definitely feel his pain and suffering.

"tracking" means "following the movement of someone or something, (not necessarily on rails)

in the original screenplay there is a note that says “TRACKING” or “TRACK,” something like that.
It is a tracking shot.
Recent events that happened in the US legit have me feeling like this (minus the “I got issues with white folks too”).

dude walks like he just shat himself.
Totally normal cop attitude saddly...
