Tutorial #7 - Rockabilly Boogie Guitar - Carl Perkins Style - part 2 - Jez Quayle
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- In this video I teach more of the boogie guitar technique Carl Perkins used to accompany himself when singing his rockabilly classics 'Blues Suede Shoes', 'Boppin the Blues', 'Gone Gone Gone', etc. Carl not only used this technique when playing his own compositions, but also when covering other artists' rock 'n' roll songs. The riffs and licks I present here sound great on both acoustic and electric guitar.
Here's a contents list (with times) so you can jump to topics if you wish to:

I've published a chord songbook called '50 from the Fifties' ...containing 50 classic rock 'n' roll songs from the 1950s. All of the songs can be played with just 4, easy open chords or using the riffs and licks I teach in this tutorial. It's ideal for both beginners and experienced guitarists who want to use the techniques I teach in my tutorials on some great rockin' tunes. It contains classic hits by the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and many more. If you'd like to buy a copy then search for 'Jez Quayle Rock and Roll Songbook' on the Amazon or Lulu.com websites.

Yeeeeaahhh! Been waiting (patiently, too) for something like this - at last something which is not amazingly difficult to learn - though getting used to it can perhaps take time. That's just my sort of thing - you betcha. Well played and well taught. Great stuff, mate - and much appreciated (by many others, too, it seems). Missed your Tutorial #2 (for some unknown reason), so will have to try and dig that one up - thanks for mentioning it. Thanks, lad! 👍👍✌✌✌ 👏👏👏👏
That's really good to know mate. I'm so pleased that you and others find my videos helpful. I enjoy making them. Whereabouts in the world are you btw? I was assuming by the use of the term 'pub' in your channel name that you might be from the UK, Ireland or Australia. Of course, I may be way off the mark.
Yep - you enjoy making them - and well, we enjoy seeing them! Your tutorial vids are presented in such a way that nearly everybody stands a good chance of learning from them. Heh - some YT'ers seem to think we're all bleedin' budding Eric Claptons - but unfortunately, we're not. Since you ask - from the UK but now retired to
Thailand, where it's hot - very hot - but better than the UK cold. Started to play the guitar sometime after the pandemic started - seeing as we were locked down (still are 50%). My ex wanted me to learn to play some songs that were popular
when we used to go pubbing years ago (in Denmark, but that's another story). Some guy on guitar would play and sing - nothing fantastic or professional, mind you, but great songs and a great atmosphere - and there was always plenty of encouragement from the pubbers and of course the beers. Cheers, mate.
Fantastic lesson. Could you also explain how you play the solo?
Thanks very much! I’ll give that some thought. 👍
Thank you very much !
This helps me a lot.
That's good to know Joshua.

Great!!!
Thanks very much!
Thanks!!!
Good job !!! ;-)
Thanks very much Martin!
What plectrum should I use for playing this kind of music
Pick choice is quite a personal thing. I use quite a thin one myself. Specifically: Jim Dunlop, Delrin .46mm gauge (they're pink). I've never got on with heavy picks.
I'm looking how to play solo riff for my sweet lord
😉👍👍✌👋👋
Thanks very much Philippe!
Do you have a website, Jez ?
Sorry. No, I don’t have one.
