I’ve had that happen during a different game, and at 2am so it freaked me out. Now whenever I’m watching a video and hear a knock I rewind the video a few seconds and turn the volume down to check if it was just the game.
HOLY SHIT. I didn't even notice either, and I was scrolling through the comments and saw this, and pressed the time stamp. Even though I knew it was coming, I'm sitting right by my window, and, it scared the living croa out of me.

Light reflection from the walls is fantastic. Creates one of the most realistic flashlights Ive seen in a game.
Escape from tarkov did this 5 or so years ago but it was really costly on GPUs so they had to tone it down quite a bit. I'm glad game engines finally caught up to make it better optimized

22:50 this was honestly one of the best things i've seen in a long while. watching mark's videos, you get comfortable with the spooky vids as mark's face is always there in the corner. nice and normal. but that, that was AMAZING. genuinely got chills down my spine.
I saw it out of the corner of my eye and just thought it was the Scream face, which has never scared me. It's more unsettling looking at it dead on than it was from my peripheral 😂

I’m genuinely so excited to see the really cool lighting, I look forward to the day when gaming graphics look better than real life lol. As someone who does in game photography in several games and is particularly fond of playing with lighting and silhouettes, Unreal Engine seems super neat.

what’s funny is Mark missed literally all of the actually scary stuff. he only had to deal with duplicates and all the not scary things. not the literal physical form of anomalies… i need a part 2 where he runs through this game again.
This game looks scarily realistic. I never thought about how games don't have lighting change when reflecting off certain objects before Mark mentioned the beanbag.

Dark mode made this game super uncomfortable. The stairs to the basement, the view of the bathtub from the mirror, and the closet in the bedroom always made me tense up whenever he passed over them.
I highly recommend looking at some other folks playing this game! I'd suggest Insym as someone to watch, but even if not a full playthrough, a showcase of the intruder-esque anomalies shows how freaky and unbelievably well-made for being unfinished this game is!

@@schizoidmeme5470 yeah I remember that now,I think I got that confused my bad, with volume 333 when the "cat" / alternate is talking to Adam from the basement telling him to " follow my voice instead" instead of the false Sheppard's, Adam is the baby that got taken in the video with the mother being distraught by her missing infant, can't remember the name of it but Adam is like an alternate sleeper agent I guess, in volume 4 that chick found the toddler assessment test and it says his parents name's and his on it if I remember right he didn't show any reactions to the video or audio ques, I love this series can't wait for more I might need to watch through it again, Adam is kind of inbetween alternate and human or he is human and got raised by the alternates hence why the intruder in the tv asked if he remembers him in the basement, also explains why he's so interested and willing to investigate the alternates and has no fear, I think these creatures are more complex then we originally thought, like you said though terrifying thought that in that universe he literally replaced God and everyone has been praying to these things
I do like how dark mode lets us follow Mark's method of checking the room with how he moves the flashlight.

I end up anticipating the scare, which just amplifies the fright when it happens. Whenever my gf asks "this new scary game is out. Wanna play it together?" I ask "are there jumpscares?" "Prooobably." This is one of the best looking indie (i suppose?) game i've ever seen. Light is amazing, shadows are too. The curtain in the bathroom and the ottoman in the chamber look really good with all the folds on there, giving a real sense of "real matter", the way the light reflects on the pencil drawings on the fridge. It's real good work over here.
That knock at 8:00 really got me in my headphones. That sounded so good it made me think it was real

They did a great job of ambient lighting when you're using the flashlight. It's much more realistic than the "sight cone" most games settle for
that's just how Unreal Engine 5 lighting works
wow the mirror and partial shower curtain setup combo. i felt scared just seeing that, instinctual fear and nothing scary is even there yet. the mere concept of there being something behind the drapes is like a primal fear, i wonder if it's universal or if it's just me. the mirror combines it with a kind of "there's something in the corner of your eye/right next to you which you only have a glimpse of, it doesn't know you've noticed it yet, if you turn and look your fear will be confirmed" kind of thing that's also instinctually scary to me.
good game design stuff. nothing earth-shattering but if a dev manages to make me afraid even though i know there' nothing there, or manages to copy the terror of walking around in your house/apartment in the dark as a kid, seeing clothes piled on a chair which takes the visage of some deformed entitity in the dark, you're doing something good.

I really adore these types of horror games. Something about them makes them so interesting.
It's hilarious how he missed the candelabra moving, and then caught the apple moving, so when he reported the apple it fixed the candelabra, so he inadvertently fixed both of them.
I hope someone makes a compilation of what mark misses in these type games
I know in one playthrough he missed that the tube of cream was upright instead of lying down in the bathroom.
He also missed the candles on the kitchen table moving, but inadvertently got that when trying to report the apple.
I'm fairly certain the 32nd anomaly Mark missed was a duplicate remote in the living room. There's one on the main table and another on the side table. You can see it from around 18:30 onwards.

It's probably been awhile since he went through the Mandela Catalog and likely forgot most of the names and stuff with it because he does have a whole video dedicated to it but it's a bit farther back in his channel.

@@isasadiqov7721 Lumen is still just ray tracing, we've had that for years now in many games. What UE5 does is integrate it into the engine itself and make it easy for developers to use and configure.
Path tracing is a different beast though, and looks much better in certain cases.

i love the little tidbits of mandela in this game, like the photos of victims and even the picture on the fridge of an ‘intruder’ that the kid drew. it’s not super obvious but it’s effective! love it honestly.
i also just saw, in the basement (where a deletion happened during vol. 2) there’s a photo of the victim who died there in front of the tv (the alternate which deleted him)! I don’t know if this was obvious but omg 😭👏

How did this random fan game have light refraction and shine done better then any fully fleshed out game I've ever seen?
Less going on. Less models to make. Leaves time to put more work into the less important things like reflections
You clearly haven't played games with ray tracing maxed out then. Still cool that it's in indie games now, and utilized in a way that enhances the atmosphere.
@@TexelGuy I have played my fair share of games and none of them have a ray tracing option.
And I have watched UA-camrs play a million games and none of them ever looked like that.
But feel free to name another game where you can point a torch at a blue wall and it'll illuminate the entire room blue
@@Secarious Minecraft RTX, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, Dying Light 2, Portal RTX, Quake 2 RTX, Cyberpunk 2077 Path tracing, and basically any future game that features ray traced global illumination/path tracing of any kind.
Just because you haven't played them doesn't mean they don't exist.

I guess I just have not found interest in any game that has those effects yet and so, this being my first experience seeing the light refraction, I was voicing my fascination.
I love in the game intruder’s voice can be heard when the “too many anomaly” appears his voice can be heard telling the player “open your eyes” like he did in vol 2 also at some point you can hear Gabriel saying “I am your true savior” like he did to the shepherds
Did you notice that at 26:23 when the apple was missing the apple appeared in the basement next to the painting? It disappeared again from the basement when u reported it in the kitchen.
the fun part of this is that you're able to report the apple in both the kitchen and the basement as a displacement :)

Wow, he did so amazingly even though he did this in dark mode. I was surprised that by the end the last anomaly he missed was the mimicked remote in the living room. Just wish he would've gotten more flawed anomalies because it would have been hilarious to see his reaction to some of the freakier ones considering his reaction to the one at the door when that one wasn't even one that was that freaky lol

man the threat level thing is the perfect feature for this kind of game. dunno if observation duty implemented that too at some point or if it's this dev's innovation. ranging from "vague" to "evident" is such a good idea too, a hint so you know what kind of thing to look for. if it's evident you'd prolly do big sweeps across every room, whereas if it's vague you'd slowly inspect a single room at a time, knowing you have the time to do so cuz the threat level is low.
gameplay wise it's not too different from where's waldo but idk it works, it's scary
BPS actually stands for Bythorn Paranormal Society! It's an alternate and ghost hunting group from the original Mandela Catalogue series by Alex Kister. The picture of the hooded guy in the basement is actually Adam, the guy who ran the BPS and ended up stuck in a basement. There are Easter eggs hidden all throughout the game about the original series that I can't stop looking at lol

In one game I've had 5 flawed, 2 pure forms and 1 corpse. Just to say that mark's run was extremely lucky in terms of scariness.
Funny how he mentioned he was surprised there was nothing standing in the stairs yet there was a shadow lady the entire time for both of his playthroughs which was funny

There are so many subtle Mandela Catalogue references, it's amazing. The BPS items (which stands for Bythorne Paranormal Society, by the way), the photos of characters, the children's drawings, the child's room, the TV playing the training tape - and so much more. It's truly so cool to see.
subtle? it's literally called alternate watch. main pictures are all of characters directly from the series.
