    This is a great, straightforward, and easy to follow video. I hadn't heard of using muriatic acid like that before. I'll have to try it out!

    Great videos, thank you! I am a first time pool owner this year. What kind of DE do I need to buy? Are they all the same for pools?

      You probably already know this, but use swimming pool DE. DE is used for a variety of things and not all of it is specified for use in pools. I use Celatom as well. I'd also suggest finding a good local pool store. There's one near me and they are so incredibly helpful and knowledgable and aren't just trying to sell you stuff.

    Nice video.....only concern is the use of a power drill to 'tighten' the filter bolts on top. There's a good chance that you will over tighten the nut/bolt, cracking crack either the top of bottom of the filter, as it's only plastic! I always hand tighten all nuts and bolts using a cross pattern as you did and never tightening any of them all the way to begin with. Once all the bolts are installed continue cross tightening until all are very snug. Then do one final tightening where you go all the way around (no cross tightening) the filter head and you should be good to go. Thanks again for the video

      Been doing it this way on over 500 filters through my time. Never cracked one. Use in impact when it starts making a ratchet noise… stop. lol

      @@Poolsmithpros Please understand it's not you using the tool that worries me, as you obviously have the experience to do it right. It's the fact that others who might never have done a job like this, or only done it once, that would be more prone to 'over torquing' and cracking the housing

      DE will eventually settle on the bottom, as long as it's not being stirred up from the bottom. Stop your pump for a couple hours, even better overnight, and check in the morning. If you see white powder scattered across the deep end, then you can vacuum it into your filter, or to waste. Probably vacuuming to filter is the best way, as you won't waste water, and as you said the DE is clean. Keep your filter/pump running after you vacuum to filter out any remaining suspended DE. If DE is regularly getting into your pool, you may have a tear in one or more of the DE filter fingers, which is letting it through. I have the same issue this year, getting DE into the pool during pool filter/pump start each day, which will require me to find and replace the damaged filter fingers
      If no DE settles on the bottom, then it may not be DE, but an algae bloom. In that case, you need to bring your chlorine level up with 10% liquid pool chlorine in gallon bottles (available a Lowes or Walmart). For my 20x40 36K gallon pool, it take 3 bottles to bring chlorine to 10ppm, which is typical shock level, which is generally what's needed to clear up a cloudy pool. Leave your filter/pump running for the next couple days, and you should see the water clear up pretty well. I suggest visiting the following pool site for very good details on all this. www.troublefreepool.com/blog/pool-school/

    What kind of acid are you soaking fingers in?

      Hydrochloric Acid. You can get it any Lowes or Home Depot, prolly be in the paint section or Masonary.

      @@asimimon3362 With pollen high you need to invest in skimmer socks, you can buy them on Amazon. They are super cheap. They catch all the pollen at your skimmer basket and don’t allow it to get to your filter. The only thing you have to make sure of is that when you do backwash and add your D.E. that you take the sock out of your skimmer basket, because it won’t allow the powder to get through. They are life savers.

    How do I change the fabric ?

    • @Poolsmithpros
      @Poolsmithpros  2 роки тому

      I haven’t got a chance to make that video yet, but you replace the whole finger. They come in 5 packs and are $25 online. I only change them out when there are rips and tears in the fabric.
      You have to take the handle off, then drop the shaft off the filter head. Next you undo all those little nuts and bolts. That then separates the plates to take each finger out separately..
      Couple things to watch for putting back together. There is a certain bolt pattern when putting those little bolts back in. And there are O-Rings on the shaft that a lot of the time need replaced from wear and tear, so if you replace a couple fingers. I would replace those O-rings.
      If you want to replace all the fingers, well it’s just cheaper to order the whole inside and swap it out.

    How you take the pin out of the handle

    • @jaysamaha3194
      @jaysamaha3194 2 роки тому

      I used to remove the handle when taking the filter apart but quickly realized I didn't need to. I just take the bolts out like he does in this video. The handle stays attached. If you really want to take the pin and handle off you can. My pin is a bolt with a nut that I unscrew.
