Sir, I’ve been a mechanic for over 40 years. I don’t do much of it any more because I thought being a doctor was cool. I like working on cars again and show my sons how to do things for themselves. When you said @
Why? WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THIS VIDEO???? What kind of a man does all that extra work on an already difficult job to share it with others for FREE?! You sir are a different breed of individual and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this single video. I have an alternator coming and I had already accepted the fact that I was just going to have to pay someone to put it in because I couldn’t find these steps anywhere. If I was anywhere close to you I’d take my car to you for all my work. Thanks again man. I am extremely grateful for this perfectly detailed video.
Man, I don't get what Lexus/Toyota was thinking. The freakin' starter is so inconvenient to get to. You can't even do the simple "hit with a hammer" trick to help you out if you're stuck somewhere with the starter dead.
If you've got access to a lift or stands you can pull the belt and alternator from the bottom leaving everything in place. Just unplug the rack and it falls right out. Takes roughly 10 minutes. Otherwise on point. Not many videos on this job yours is by far the best explanation
I'm dead at the gas station and having starter problems waiting for the tow truck, watching this video. Naw I'll sent it to the shop, the extended warranty better kick in for this. Thanks for the video.
Lemme just say I appreciate your video. I have the same car that the starter went out. Tried to do this myself on the driveway. After 6 hours I was just done. I got as far as removing the bracket at the bottom. Letting me get to the manifold studs from the bottom. I tried to see if I could get it without having to remove the alternator and all. It was almost possible, but holy shit, so many rusted on and I think I just have to take it to the mechanic at this point. Thank you for this vid though. Wish I could have had your skill to do this.

Appreciate man. That’s brilliant job, hard though. Saves funds of those who have right hands and tools to do that themselves.

What size extensions are used in removal of the exhaust manifold and other parts? Looks like a 12 inch or 6 inch or both?
