Special Forces Soldiers from the 10th SFG(A) had an MTT on the ground in Beirut at the time of the incident. Members of the CI Section, MI Company, conducting force protection operations for the SF Unit had advanced warning of the attack and pushed it up the chain. The Marine Chain of Command in Beirut at the time elected to ignore the warning. The sentries on duty at the time had no ammunition for their weapons. 243 Marines died that day. Vanity oh, vanity. RIP 🙏
I was there and those Special Forces pukes couldn't find their own ass with two hands and a compass. Proof of that was when four of them got lost out in the 'ville because they went for a drive without a map and we had to go look for them. They finally got back, minus all their gear and weapons which were confiscated by one of the militias out in the hills. I was also there when our XO chewed their asses for having their heads up said asses. They weren't conducting force protection, they were training the LAF. We don't use Army pukes to protect us, especially green beanies. They were a small, ineffective presence who had no connection to the MNF mission. There was no advance warning because they didn't have it, because they didn't have assets to learn it, and nothing was "pushed up the chain." And, BTW, the sentries at the BLT gate DID have ammo in their weapons, but the order from SACEUR was no round in the chamber. One sentry did manage to get off a shot before the truck disappeared under the building. I was there, not sitting back home making up hindsighted bullshit. -Gunny Opie 24th MAU 1983
we were on float in the indian ocean headed to perth when we got word. at first our ships were turned that way to relieve the Marines in beirut. at a certain point someone decided that the units commited to the grenada invasion could head that way faster than we could get there and we turned back. i remember when the casualty list was handed out. we sat in our berth and lt. wheeler read the names. i lost three good friends in beirut. good Marines.
We were heading to relieve 1/8 from the root when we got side tracked to Grenada. No decision made. The 8th Marines , I was Golf 2/8, started floats to the root in 82. 2/6 was air alert which held the line untill we landed in early November. I did two floats into Lebanon. Grenada was a joke and we left after five days.

We had a sergaent lat move into the MOS and a bunch of jets did a break over our airfield for landing. We realized he was under a table and crawling out before we realized he had disappeared. THAT drove a very pointed point home. I also learned a LOT from his stories and those actually helped me a bunch when desert storm kicked off. It also changed a lot of SOP going forward.
I had just left 29Palms after radio school for Lejune. I remember I was in formation when a Marine pointed at me and said, " You, over this way are going to 3/6." The rest went to Beirut. Two of those Marines had just finished radio school with me and I never saw them again.
I was no longer an active-duty Marine when I heard the news that day. But it was still a MASSIVE gut-punch. I still remember that feeling several times a year, and just remembering through this video brought the emotions and tears right back. In one hall of our apartment, I have a poster of a line from a letter President Reagan wrote to the family of one of those Marines: "Some people spend a lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. The Marines don't have that problem." Parris Island, graduated November 10 1967. Three years active duty (Vietnam 1969-70); three years active reserve. Sergeant. Still a Marine! I was on board USS Inchon LPH-12 and did the Beirut rotation from Oct 1982 until March 1983. If my memory is correct we deployed all of are embarked Marines to the Airport and they experienced fires almost on a daily basis. My division spent time on the ground providing the Lebanese civilian population with medical care and working to fix schools that had been damaged by the civil war and the Israeli shelling under almost the same conditions. Unbeknownst to us when we turned over to the next amphib group that they would be involved in the bombing on 23 Oct 1983. BTW I ended up staying in the Navy for a total of 33 years and did tours with the Marines in Desert Shield/Storm, Okinawa, MCCDC Quantico and HQMC in the Pentagon.

Then let it off and there's a lot going on during the night.. I got hit on that mission.. Was taken back. Our location was mortered and missiled , got shipped to Germany,, eventually home.. I didn't like home anymore so I went back. I'm still living there..
Whatever happened to the U.S. Senator that forced the Marine commander to remove his defensive blockade of the road leading to the barracks that was blown up?
This happened in the middle of the Lebanese civil war. Interesting that the attack was on a Sunday of October 23rd and this year falls on a Sunday, October 23rd. Let's not forget August 4, 2020 explosion.
Everyone seems to think that the bombing is all there was to Beirut. Wrong. We received potshots and strays from day one and in August things got more serious. We took regular harassing fire and sniping. At the end of August all hell broke loose and we took our first killed and wounded. As August became September, the Israelis pulled back from Beirut and the city erupted. From that point on, it was a very rare day that we weren't under fire from small arms, mortars, rockets, and even 23mm anti-aircraft guns shooting down at us from the hills. This cease fire and that cease fire were broken as soon as they were negotiated. We continued to take casualties on a regular basis. Then came October 23rd. What haunts me the most is that we weren't allowed to hit back... we had to sit in that perimeter and take it. It wasn't our war but we were smack dab right in the middle of it and we paid the toll in blood. A toll exacted as much by the politicians in Washington DC as by the militias and terrorists we faced. I can forgive the forces arrayed against us, it was a war they were fighting and they acted accordingly. I can never forgive the politicians who rendered us helpless in the midst of battle.
@@CplSkiUSMC I agree with you 100% on it being the politician's fault and not letting the Marines defend themselves and take action. That was one of the things that p***** me off about president Reagan I voted for him, however, it pissed me off that he did not retaliate against the Muslim terrorist that attacked our Marines.
@@dannystranahan1004 I think President Reagan would have done more but the house democrats were fighting him tooth and nail and trying to tell him he didn't have the authority to put us in there. We were also in the shadow of Vietnam and all of the politicians were all weak kneed because of it. It was a humanitarian intent, but you can't keep the peace when there's no peace to keep. If you're gonna create peace then you have to kick the asses of the aggressors and we weren't allowed to do that.
I would really like to know whatever became of LCPL Nashton (2nd Tank Battalion, TOW Company). Can I have an honest information of why 299 Marines located in foreign country? What was their purpose? Were they invited or not legally to be there or not? And an attack like this has a major reason behind it, so why they've been attacked if they were on peaceful mission? I'm just looking for real information out political or propaganda. Thanks. And may all the fallen rest in peace.

The Beirut "peacekeeping force" was an impossible mission. We should have let Israel finish off the PLO and Yassar Arafat once and for all. Instead, we were a huge target, the long Marines stayed in Beirut, the more they wanted us out of their home lands. I did two deployments to Beirut and it was nothing but a political stunt by Reagan to flex his willingness to use force.

One of too many...🇺🇸
Remember that always live in the town home of Camp Lejeune it was so quite and never will forget. My husband was gone on deployment at the time so me and my three small children here during this loss .It's like the town had closed up . Peace keeping troops just a great loss to Marine Corp and United States Navy . Always remember Semper Fidelis.
I was not yet born when this occurred (I was worn in 1998) but my father has told me stories about this and he brought it up today! I am in absolute grief and gratitude at the marines who put themselves in harms way so we could live in the peace we have today. They will be in my prayers this week ❤
♥
🙏❤️Always in remembrance …thank you for your service 🖤🥀🖤🥀🖤🥀words are never enough….
CMC we were on that same CAX. I was with 1st 155mm HowBtry, 4/11, when we got the word to fall back to Camp Wilson
We was in the same Battalion at the same time. I was with 4th 155 as a FDC. Semper Fi brother.
I was on the bus heading to BOCES, we had just gotten a bus with a random and Imus in the morning was on when he reported on the barracks.
I stayed on the bus and went back to the high school. When I got back I first went to the post office and registered for the draft then walked a block up to the Marine Coros recruiting station and talked with SSG O'Keef. Gave me a pep talk thanked me for coming in and said I was too young but to come see him in 2 years.
I graduated HS 08June 86 left for boot camp 09 June 86.
Got RIF'ed out in 91 after the 1st gulf War.
I owe a dept of gratitude to those Marines that perished in Beirut, they were the motivating reason I am the man I am today...

I remember a. Lot of guys that were there God Bless the Family's and God Bless them guys I miss y'all
we were on float in the indian ocean headed to perth when we got word. at first our ships were turned that way to relieve the Marines in beirut. at a certain point someone decided that the units commited to the grenada invasion could head that way faster than we could get there and we turned back. i remember when the casualty list was handed out. we sat in our berth and lt. wheeler read the names. i lost three good friends in beirut. good Marines.
I remember 10 23 83. Very vividly. Michael. Lost 1 Very close friend at the Beirut Marine
Semper Fi my brothers...
I was a young Sgt at Mirmar I had a GySgt he was my monitor. He was trapped in the rubble for days he had a long scare on his face. Thanks for everything brother and those orders to New Orleans. One of the best monitor's ever. Semper Fi !!!!! Happy Birthday!!!!
I was a young Marine one and a half years following the bombing, today I regret not dying as Marine.
I need the Marine Corps spirit and teamwork, I lost hope in Life.
Rip to the Marines from C co 2nd Recon Bn. I just Arrived to unit after that and ill never forget seeing the metal bands around the wall lockers and the empty racks of the Marines who died.
I was with 2/6 Weapons and lived in that building for 6 weeks. We were relieved by 1/8. I volunteered to go back after the attack and was assigned with 2/8. When I visited the sight of the attack a feeling ive never felt before or since came over me. I hope to never feel that way again as it changed me forever. Semper Fi.
~ "Loyalty is running into a battlefield for you, before they even know your name". May you all rest in peace. Semper Fi!! 💥👊
❤ it’s ingrained into my heart, mind and soul the horror and tremendous sacrifice of those fine Marines and other services personnel who perished. Semper Fi.
Rip all of them
I had just left 29Palms after radio school for Lejune. I remember I was in formation when a Marine pointed at me and said, " You, over this way are going to 3/6." The rest went to Beirut. Two of those Marines had just finished radio school with me and I never saw them again.
All right. I'll be honest with you. If one day, I will die in battle. Please protect my free country. thank you all.
Thank You for
The Ultimate Sacrifice...
May Your Heroic memories live on.
They went to another country to invade it, they got what was coming to them.
I was no longer an active-duty Marine when I heard the news that day. But it was still a MASSIVE gut-punch. I still remember that feeling several times a year, and just remembering through this video brought the emotions and tears right back.
In one hall of our apartment, I have a poster of a line from a letter President Reagan wrote to the family of one of those Marines:
"Some people spend a lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. The Marines don't have that problem."
Parris Island, graduated November 10 1967. Three years active duty (Vietnam 1969-70); three years active reserve. Sergeant. Still a Marine!
"Semper Fidelis" to all of my Brother and Sister Marines, wherever they are in the world.
Good Night Chesty Puller, wherever you are!
A very sad day for our men. Rest in peace bro's. Semper Fi.
I was stationed at HQMC Henderson Hall in 83 motor tee I took the medical records
to the surgeon general office
Carrying that box still haunt me to this day
I was on board USS Inchon LPH-12 and did the Beirut rotation from Oct 1982 until March 1983.
I was fresh out of MCRD San Diego, in the middle of my 'A school.' #SemperFi
I was on the reactionary force at Camp Lejeune North Carolina that replaced those that were killed.. fortunately or unfortunately I was in 81 mm mortars and those marines were not replaced by our battalion.. It was a very surreal moment and I'll never forget it.. God bless, the United States Marine corps. And the men who served.. Semper fidelis
I was on a guard ship for the USS New jersey in 83 in the beqaa Valley..gave direct fire support for the marines I'll never forget 😤
I was on my way to Grenada with the 22nd MAU...we relieved those desperate few left in Beirut around Nov 14th, 1983....SEMPER FI, MY BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time this terrible event be recognized. Semper fi. Iwas a young lance corporal then , lost 2 brothers that day that I knew personally. Ill never forget. Rest easy brothers.
I saw recruiters at my school and I was struggling with my own self image and wasn’t interested with anything after school but as soon as I saw the recruiters I thought to my self I want to do this so I went up to them and since then I’ve started working out and started getting a better self image of myself though I can’t start doing PT till next year as I’m only 16 I will give it my all into becoming a marine.
Happy birthday Marines, may you never be forgotten! May God bring you into the Kingdom of Heaven!

Semper Fi..... Iam at a loss of words my grandfather and his 4 brothers all served in WWll. My uncle was badly wounded in the battle of Iwo Jima his fellow Marines saved his life. He just passed at 93. Their beloved Corps, I just saw a female Marine with dress blues on!!! What happened to tradition?
Yes there seems to be a few of these type of memories in the memory stick.. what bothers me is when you find out the truth.. yes to the Vietnam vets.. what I seen what I witness what I felt,, was my job,, didn't take long till I enough..
On the mission:: I had a gut feeling after 2 years.
I told the captain like the place up send the gunships in ,,light up the mountain/ hill.. please sir.
Then let it off and there's a lot going on during the night.. I got hit on that mission..
Was taken back. Our location was mortered and missiled , got shipped to Germany,, eventually home.. I didn't like home anymore so I went back. I'm still living there..
Thank you for your service, Marine.

I was a PFC in MOS school then served with 22nd MAU BLT 1/8 in 84
They Came In Peace. They Died In War. Sunday 23 October 1983AD, 0622BMNT, Beirut, Lebanon: REMEMBER, REFLECT, RESPECT.🇺🇸🇺🇲💔😭🤬🪖💣💥🔥🇱🇧🇱🇧‼️

A sad day in our Marine Corps History
Semper Fi to Our Fallen Marines.
When that truck rolled up on the gate, the two Marines at the gate emptied their weapons even as they were being blown to Heaven's gates.
Rest in peace Steve "TAZ" WENTWORTH. Never forget. Class B10-82.
Memory Eternal 🙏
And they were from Camp Geiger North Carolina and Camp lejeune North Carolina I miss you guys
I was in boot at PI .On that day remember DI'S setting us all down . A very sad day.
There is a special place in Heaven for USMC!
God Bless our US Marines! Keep safe our New Generation of Marines!! 😊
I was there.
Corporal ski were you with 1/8?
@@dannystranahan1004 I was attached to 1/8... I was part of the Amtrac platoon attached to the BLT.
If you're gonna create peace then you have to kick the asses of the aggressors and we weren't allowed to do that.
i was discharged in 1983 i wish i could have there to help my brothers

I would really like to know whatever became of LCPL Nashton (2nd Tank Battalion, TOW Company). When the Commandant was visiting the wounded from the collasped building in the hosptal LCPL Nashton motioned for a pen and paper because he was hooked up to medical equipment and unable to talk. He wrote "Semper Fi" on that paper. From what I heard the Commandant got really choked up by this. Thank you for posting this and God Bless...
Semper Fi! Rest in the #HONORED Peace you so justly deserve! #ORAHH #LYBM

Fallen Marines RIP! Semper Fi Leathernecks!
241 marines died in this of 10/23/1983
Can I have an honest information of why 299 Marines located in foreign country? What was their purpose? Were they invited or not legally to be there or not?
And an attack like this has a major reason behind it, so why they've been attacked if they were on peaceful mission?
I'm just looking for real information out political or propaganda.
Thanks.
And may all the fallen rest in peace.
When I deciphered Demon Gate Ingredients for the Coven in New Orleans, LA there are only 4. #1 Undead Werewolves or Vampires Blood #2 Innocent sacrifice..... The others in the Coven couldn't figure out the Ingredients but I did. They showed me someone elses book of Shadows in 2020.
Does anyone know if the multi international peace keeping force or the USA military that were sent to Beirut Lebanon beginning in 1982 to 1984 a Campaign similar to how the Vietnam Conflict started and does anyone know what were all the ribbons, medals, or any other awards that were earned and given to all military personnel who served in and around Beirut Lebanon from 1982 to 1984?
I lost friends in that bombing!! I was stationed in Hawaii with 1/3..
This and things like Bolivia, things we really don't hear about at all in the post 9/11 world are always interesting.
My Sincere Condolences to out fallen Marines & their families! 😢😢🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 This is the same Berger & Cronies that promoted the Jab/Vax to our Marines🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Hi.
Why
What ever became of this? What did the U.S do after this happened?
The Navy did a big shell show with a battle ship, basically did nothing but shell a goat farm ,and then we pulled out.
Basically.....nothing.
Slava Ukraini 🇫🇮
The Beirut "peacekeeping force" was an impossible mission. We should have let Israel finish off the PLO and Yassar Arafat once and for all. Instead, we were a huge target, the long Marines stayed in Beirut, the more they wanted us out of their home lands. I did two deployments to Beirut and it was nothing but a political stunt by Reagan to flex his willingness to use force.
You were in a place you had no business being, fighting for a corrupt regime.
Maybe you should learn the backgrounds of marines presence there before speaking out.
@@jonathanh5762 I know the background, which is the influence of "Israeli" persons within the US administration and power structure. Your country is Israel's little B***. You are fighting and dying for their political goals.
