    I know this video was done months ago but there doesn't seem to be any conclusion with the two heads you sent in to the Machine Shop? I was hoping you could make one out of two? Hopefully it all worked out well.

    Great video JC and Mrs. JC!
    A fine job loading the parts truck on the FL70 and always great to see the mighty GradAll performing the heavy lifting. Mrs. JC did a stellar job loading the truck squarely on the carrier and operating the GradAll to remove the head when you got back to the shop... 5 stars guys! Work ssafe, stay warm, hope that head works out for ya.

    It's funny to watch this because we have a similar story, we bought a dump truck 2005 kenworth with an ism engine and it also was bad, the valves didn't hit the pistons, but the liners were glazed and it had an incredible amount of blow by. We just rebuilt the engine and tomorrow we are going to start it up for the first time to see how it goes. Ironically as I was watching this video I noticed you guys also happen to have a jhon deere skidsteer, we have a 2016 318g with the forks and I am truly impress by how you guys moved that truck because our skidsteer wouldn't have been able to move it like that without tipping over.

    JC, after watching you use the Gradall for so many things, I still cannot get over how you handle the delicate work with its two front teeth. The size and gangly appearance of the beast seems incongruous to the work you give it. The power of the hydraulics is fascinating, but the long, spindly scorpion tail swaying in the air would make close tolerance work seem impossible. How do you do that? 🙄

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  5 років тому +1

      the truck i picked up has internal engine failure. the engine in this truck will need to be replaced. i am using the good parts off of this one to fix the other identical truck. i have already bought another truck with a complete engine for this second 8600. this is more about timing, i am using the truck that the engine will come from. i wont tear it apart until the 1st 8600 is finished and the second one has the old engine out.

    Great videos. What does your ramp truck weigh? Im looking at a penske 2017 f650 v10 with a 26' box i want to take off and do a ramp to haul my CAT 289D 11-12500 pound machine and want to stay under 26k. Think its possible?

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  4 роки тому

      just under 14k. i personaly would not build that truck on a gas v10 chassis. my opinion is that is not enough engine for that truck and load. mine is a 3126 cat and it does what i need it to but i could take some more power. the gas engines dont do well on hills. they drop off really fast. downshift a lot. high rpms. watch temperature, low power, low fuel economy. consider that when penske (and many other rental fleets) order these trucks in gas, they are banking on it to be loaded a small percentage of the miles driven. they gamble that the truck will rarely see a load heavy enough to reach its gvwr. think about why they sell them aff at the mileage they do. they know when it isnt cost effective to run any more. i would want air brakes and air suspension (so you can drop the rear for loading).

      @@j.c.smithprojects thank you for taking the time to respond and sharing your knowledge. Just found a 2013 International Durastar MaxxForce 275 for 12k with 200k miles. Seems like a good buy. Researching the engine now.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  4 роки тому +2

      i stay clear of any maxxforce engine. they are all problematic. the vt275 was a v6 engine that was renamed the maxxforce 5 but was discontinued in 2010. the maxxforce 7 is the v8 engine and it was a aweful. the maxxforce dt was an inline 6 cylinder engine. it also was a troubled engine. $12k for that truck is too much money. they have very low value. the last one i bought (for parts because i dont sell trucks that i know will be a problem) was a 2012 maxxforce dt, allison automatic, air brakes, air ride, under cdl, aluminum wheels, aluminum fuel tanks, chrome mirrors, chrom bumper, keyless entry and so many other options and 197k miles......i paid $7500. the only i bought it was because it had just had many of the most common isuues fixed with receipts from the dealer that did the work. be careful.
