this track is a medley of the first four contours of 'To Sleep, Dreaming', combined with the song's scrapped segments. i put it together to commemorate the launch of Deepwoken.
it's hard to believe it's been two years since the work on the project began. it has been a long and bumpy road, but we're finally here.
a sincere thank you goes out to the Deepwoken team for being the most talented and excellent team of people i've had the pleasure of working with.
and of course, my greatest gratitude goes to Raguza & Arch_Mage, for giving me an opportunity to develop and grow as an artist over these past 2 years. the Deepwoken Original Soundtrack is as much their labour as it is mine - for without their guidance, i would not be where i am today.

whether the intention or not, i'd like to think the final sound effect is representative of the cyclical nature of the game and its world; a clock winding to tick on past a perceived end
likely representative of how the great drowning was supposed to be the end of lumen (deepwoken world) and everything was supposed to sink into the depths, but it didn’t

this theme perfectly encapsulates what deepwoken should have felt like. discovery and exploration of a world not meant for you and has decayed far past its prime. discovering a ruined building amidst a thick and foggy forest. the building tucked away with moss, forgotten to time. but current deepwoken has none of that magic of discovery and decay, rather playing more like a typical RPG game with unique elements. the current etrean luminant map feels artificial and definitely not the things we expected from the direct, so I hope the other luminants will have much bigger forests and show more of the supposed ruined and by-gone world.
true that, hope the other layers will show more remnants of this archipelago which was once bigger, who knows back then it might've been more akin to earth than some islands?
I feel like DW has kinda fallen into a pit of meta, irony and (partially) toxicity that kinda ruins the really REALLY good atmosphere and aesthetic the game could have had. In a way, maybe singleplayer would be good for the game...
@@TaylorMAston No, I think the issue is that it HAD those feelings at launch, but as players learn the game over time and get better at it they just push themselves for one reason or another, and after being everywhere so many times in such a short time, the novelty of trying to ‘explore’ anything sort of wears off. I’m new to the game so I still get a riot out of sailing somewhere I have no idea where, and desperately trying to survive.
And every bit of Nak’s pieces for this game are what send me forward breh. 🙏🙏🙏

i get this question a lot! i might as well offer some insight on it.
early on in development, while making the four contours, i was messing about with changing the chord progression and melody of 'To Sleep, Dreaming' for a variety of alternate main menu themes, for different in-game situations, like your character's faction allegiance - just a concept i had in mind. i also had an idea for a sort of 'credits song' that'd play either at some point in the late game, or as the credits scrolled by on a menu screen. however, i could never figure out a satisfying way to tie all the contours together all while incorporating the melody from the second half of 'On The Shoulders Of Giants' heard here, nor did i know how the game would pan out this early in development.
as development moved on, i kind of forgot about the idea - but it always quietly sat in the back of my mind. when the game released, i figured i'd express my appreciation to the developer team by making a composition as a 'thank you', and i remembered these scrapped segments i had. so, after some work, i finally pieced them together, and presented it to the dev team first B)
after a little while, i made the song publicly available on the OST release.
ultimately, the second half of this melody was scrapped because the selected four contours felt a lot more like a 'beginning' - the start of an adventure, an invitation to explore. the second half of the song felt like an ending, a finale - it didn't quite fit the bill for a main menu theme.
as for why the four contours don't play in the game - they used to! at certain parts of ingame progression, you would hear different contours - contour 1 upon a fresh start, contour 2 after creating a character, contour 3 after encountering the depths, and i don't remember very well what the conditions for contour 4 were, but it was either played on the menu after escaping the depths, or after reaching a certain level. nevertheless, it appears that during the process of separating the game from one place into individual instances (Etrean Luminant, Depths etc.), something got lost in translation, and the contours no longer play as intended.
mind you, the code is all still there, i believe - it just needs fixing. however, this isn't a priority for the developer team as is - in the end, the contours are shine and polish to the game. there is bug fixing, balancing, and anti-exploit patching that takes priority over it B)

Deepwoken NEEDS either an animated tv series or a movie. The concepts in the game are mind blowingly original, music is outstanding, lore is JUICY. Devs would not only make everyone happy but also make BANK 💰 off of it

I just got a GENIUS idea. I know the 2nd half was scrapped, but just how awesome would be if, for such a minor update, they used the 2nd half for the celestial telescope in the Greathive Aratel? It would be so awesome to hear such an upsetting theme, signifying the celestials' end, while literally looking at them.

This theme would be perfect on the ending of a Movie, like example. Someone fell to the Depths, met comrades in the Depths, after a month adventuring. Losing comrades. teamwork, and you are finally back up...holding hands with your comrades, looking at the bright sun. While this song plays. You get flashbacks of everything that has happened and how far you've reached..

Now that we know more about Lumen and the lore of Deepwoken, this definitely to me sounds like something we'd hear after defeating the first prophet in some epic battle. The world will never be safe and the tides will never recede, but for now the greatest threat to this world, The Ministry, has been quelled. The song definitely feels more like an finale with the variations from the contours.

this track is not in game unfortunately - it's a collage of the 4 contours of the game's main theme, and the second half was once a scrapped version of the main theme B)

This title makes it seem like a Xenoblade Theme because the entire series is based on characters who are set in a world where they have to live on the backs of Giants

You understand, everything is within your grasp and you can tell anything just by looks and what it is
