Thank you, Richard, for sharing your design with all of us. I truly appreciate the work that went into this video. One little side note about the T-nut; the center hole should be drilled completely through the support bracket and the T-nut should then be installed on the backside of your support piece. When you attach the tripod mounting block it will actually pull the pointy bits even tighter into the wood. The way in which you have it shown will eventually loosen up and probably fall out. Just thought I'd mention it :). Thanks, again!
This is one of the best demonstrations for a project that I've seen. The fact that you supplied options for tools and materials that we might not be able to deal with is above and beyond expectations and much appreciated. The quality of your video, examples and presentation are top notch. Thank you.
When you installed the t-nut at the end you put the wrong end facing the tripod. You want the small side facing the tripod mount. When you tighten down on the tripod the teeth on the t-nut will lock into the wood.
Thank you for this video. I am currently making a pochade box out of a COHIBA box. YOUR modifications helped me because I was able to use the friction arm and drill out, and discard the unnecessary pieces, and use it in the way you have done in the video. So thanks for your mods.
It seems like regular use on a tripod would work the T-nut loose by pulling it back out of the hole. Should you consider mounting it on the opposite side of the board before mounting it, setting it up so that the tripod bolt would tighten it into the wood from the opposite side instead of eventually pulling it out?
It's so easy for a faster in the end grain of a board to loosen or even pull out over time. Have you considered using pocket hole method of making those joints? They are much stronger and when sent through the end grain at an angle hardly ever loosen even without adhesives.
What are the dimensions for the depth of the box? I imagine enough to make room for the lid and two paintings but I was wondering if you can share that
Great video. You really go through all the steps and make it easy to understand. One question -- can you use torsion hinges? Amazon sells torsion hinges that can be tightened or loosened depending on how much torque you need. Or would the top half of the clam shell design be too wobbly without a brace of some kind? Thanks.
Thank you. Very well done. I want to build a box that I can hold on my arm without the need for a tripod (one less thing to carry). Do you think foam or aluminum would be a good solution to keep light? Thanks for comments.
Why did you strip down the pressure hinge? Is it because you're mounting to a tripod and can get whatever angle you need that way? If you want to use this on a table top as well, you won't have the ability to adjust the angle of your painting surface.
Drywall screws, the duct tape of woodworking… 🤣🤣🤣 awesome job sir! One question, why didn’t you make it so the canvas is flush with the box when stored? Also you installed the T-nut upside down… but otherwise amazing work 😁😁😁
I suggest using dowels (square dowels instead of round dowels) and glue them inside with enough space between the dowels for your art. Perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

Thanks I've made one and it turned out just right by following your detail blog.

This is a great video thank you I'm going to make this for myself.
Thank you for sharing your creative design. I'm looking forward to seeing the material list etc.
T nuts are meant to be mounted from the other side of the board.
Super! best design i have seen. the only thing is that i think the t-nut would be stronger if it came from the backside of the wood.

Great tuturial! I don't see the materials list in the description though - would you be able to post it?

Great tutorial, I'm try to construct one
great thanks for this where can I find the list and dimensions?
dry wall screws are not meant for weather application. Use outdoor decking screws or brass or stainless screws.
Peter Clifton in the UK. A very good box of the right size Richard. May I have the list of materials to make it? Thanks
This is great, but I, too, am unable to find the materials list. Could you help us out by posting them, please?

Hi Richard , where can I find the plans for that great Pochade box you made. Thanks
I can not find the plans for the simple Pochade Box box. Where can I find them/
Very well done homemade pochade box, do you sell it?
Jin Loi No sorry.
Ty

I made mine, which can be held or placed on your lap, out of a old cigar box. Works very well.

What are the modified side hinges called?

My first thought when I saw the box was how thick it is. Seems like it would be heavy to carry around.
How much for one?
what if i do not have dado blade to cut the slots?

It's great, but I don't have any of these tools, so I'll have to buy one from the store. Thanks for the video, though.
how much would you charge to make one for someone?
Awesome
How long was it till that t nut pulled out and your box hit the ground?
I built my own and used a t nut. It’s been 8+ years and still going strong. I use mine at least once every two weeks, all year long.
