I sold my first candles yesterday! I organized a Mother’s Day craft stand at work and sold out FAST. I can’t thank you enough for your help. Happy Birthday Wade!!
Awesome Christina! And thank you very much!
Many happy returns! (37 is so young, anyone younger than me is young!!)
😁 thanks!
Happy Birthday Wade 🎂🥳🥳 37 years and looking Fabulous 🍾
Thanks! :)
Happy birthday young punk! To answer your question, I struggle with the business side of candles. Thank you for very informative information! I appreciate you!
Ha ha. Thanks!
Happy Birthday Wade! I hope you have a great day!
Thanks Elly!
what a coincidence. i'll be turning 37 too this coming may 23, 2021 and i am planning so start a homemade and handmade small candle business here in my hometown. i've been watching your tutorial videos for ideas. thanks for that.
Awesome!
I have been making candles for about 12 years. I can definitely say without a doubt or hesitation that the business side of candle making is the hardest for me. When I go to craft shows people oooh and aaah over my candles. Those who buy from me on a regular basis tell me all the time they love my candles. But I am bad at being consistent at finding ways to sell my candles and also the record keeping…(I am really excited to try out Craftybase) I LOVE making candles. It is very therapeutic for me. I am sooooo happy that I have found your UA-cam channel. It has been sooo helpful already and I’ve only watched a few of your videos since I found your channel a week ago. I am really trying to learn how to have a successful business and I appreciate so much all the info you are sharing and I truly feel I am going to learn so much.
No problem Connie. Thanks for the backstop as well. Hope things go well for ya!
Thank you! And, running the business side is always harder/ worse for me than the creating side of things!
❤️
Hi Wade
I am binge watching your videos. May 7 is also my dad's birthday. He is late now. You tarurus men make very good fathers.

So far, candle making and feeling overwhelmed with the wick/wax combination to make it the best I can.
Definitely can relate. You are not alone there. :)
Happy Birthday. Candle making is the hard part. There is so much research
Agreed. There is. :) Thanks!
Happy Birthday Wade!
Thank you!
Happy birthday!! Making candles
Thanks Rose!
What do I struggle with more? Definitely the business part of it. Making the candles is fun and relaxing for me, but I struggle with the business end of it all.
❤️👍
Happy Birthday!!!🎊🎉 Thank you for giving us this gift on your birthday! 🎁🕯 Enjoy your big day!!!
Thank you so much!
Candle making because I'm still learning. I have previous experience working in small businesses so there's more experience to draw on there.
#7 is so true. Thank you 🙏

Thank you once again for great content for us newbies. I'm in the research/absorb stage. And while I don't have an exact business plan, I do have a to-do list for the first year that I am whittling down: gathering tools and ingredients to start making. I am excited for the future and that I have a plan for after I retire to keep me busy and focused. Thank you Wade for being you and real and willing to help all small maker businesses. ❤
R.A.T.S I agree 101% percent. I watch soooooo many videos and read so much* Along with asking questions.. And I always learn something new. Its super duper importanttt to do you own testing and research for reaalll...

Running the business
👍
Happy Birthday Wade! You wince at being 37 LOL. I'm close to 67! Enjoy being young! Anyway, I struggle more with running a business (not that I have the making candles thing down pat).

Birthday wishes from Scotland, appreciate excellent content.🎁👍
Thanks Andi!
I'm also in Scotland, Andi, living in Edinburgh, where about are you, Andi?
Hello there, I wanted to give you some feedback for the videos you've made and how it compares/stands out from the rest of the chandlers on youtube channels. I very much appreciate the down-to-earth styles that everybody has, and it really reveals the personal side of candle making or candle businesses which is great. Standley from Standley Handcrafted has a lot of branching out using unique waxes and vessels to create his candles. It's fun to see what new thing he's working on as he posts his videos and his observations during the process. Kevin from Armatage Candle Company is big on the science and technicalities of candle making. I feel like I'm actually taking a class on candle making when I watch his videos. Erica from Memory Box Candle Co. has videos that are pretty relatable and address a lot of familiar questions people might have during their candle making journey. Your videos, I've found, have the most structure out of any of the candle making videos I've seen which is fantastic. Whatever topic you cover you are able to describe in a lot of detail, it leaves room for viewers to think about and investigate for themselves. It's a well balanced combination of informative and personalized content that is relevant to your target audience. I have no problems rewatching your videos multiple times.
I have never made candles in my life until early this year, and I plan to turn it into a business before the end of the year. I'm quite determined and best of all, enjoying pretty much every step of the way. I don't think I would've gotten this far without watching these candle making videos on youtube, so again I appreciate all of the content you post. Hope my feedback helps! Cheers
Audrey, thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. And yes... all channels approach content s bit differently. I do my best to deliver content in the way that I like to learn myself. And I like to mix it up sometimes too. So thank you very much again. And I'm glad you have found them helpful! :)
Thank you for being such a great gift for us.I don’t know if words can really explain how much you are appreciated!Happy Birthday from Italy 🇮🇹 😊🎂🎉🎊
Thank you so much!
Happy Birthday Wade!🥳🥰 You have given us so many gifts with your knowledge and expertise. My gift to you is to be a great candlemaker.
Thanks Rita!
Thanks Rita!
You are awesome thank you so much! Being that I am very new at this and I do want to make a business of selling my candles this video was like 100 for me! I'm learning a lot from just watching your videos so thank you very much!
Thanks so much autumn
Thank you for the content literally have spent dozens upon dozens of hours or hours in research through multiple forms of mediums through reading
(physical books, pdfs, online blogs...) experimenting with mixing physically and mentally constructing and of course youtube. its is kind of maddening and yet freeing that limiting factor in my niche (nature-based living and spiritual paths). I'm so adamant100% American made and produce beeswax candles and pure unadulterated essential oils. it is for those who yearn for mountains, lakes, ocean, and desert and attunement with the elements. your videos even though incorporate alternative materials, they are very easy to mentally digest. ty.
Thanks Jason. Yes, I try to cover (and be open to) all sorts of materials as it's meant to be helpful, educational, and sometimes entertaining to all sorts of makers using different materials. :) thanks for being here!
Happy birthday wade!!!
My thing is running a candle business, figuring out how to gain followers that arnt family and friends, market, influencers.
Thanks Stephen

Wade another spectacular video! As for your question, I struggle bigtime with the business side of my candle business. I work full time outside my home. Making candles is so relaxing to me it never feels like work but the business side I struggle! I have briefly tried Craftybase and felt it was very overwhelming so quit sadly. I am thinking I need to give it another shot and watch your videos on it. Fingers crossed! 😊
❤️ I find most new services and apps can be overwhelming at first. Like anything new.... gets easier once you learn it and get it all set up. :)
Definitely the business side! Happy birthday and thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been in business for 14 months and this is a very good refresher, because most of the tips makes sense no matter if you’re a beginner or established or in between. Thanks again. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and be safe.
Thank you and I agree. I still remind myself of them all of the time. Thanks for being here!
Happy Birthday! Running a candle business in the marketing aspect for sure!
💯 Thank you!

😁 Thanks Kaley!
Happy Birthday 🎂🎊
Thank you!
Happy birthday Wade 💐. And thank you for thinking of us on your birthday.
Also I struggle more with the candle making. I make so many different things that I struggle with the streamlining of the process. I liked seeing the flow of your workshop and look forward to seeing your new set up. I'm trying to take from your videos to implement into my own process.
Thanks Marlene. Yes, pandemic causes material issues and spikes in wood cost. So workshop coming more slowly then I hopes
Good Points!!! Love this advice. The acronym S.M.A.R.T is a great way to stay realistic! The pandemic has slooowed my suppliers, and I kinda came to a halt. Great advice!
Thanks Joey. And yes...it definitely hit hard
My biggest struggle is business-- marketing in particular.
💯
Happy Birthday 🎉🎂🎁🎊 Great tips thanks. The answer would be, we are just in the beginning so we are in the testing part. My son and I seem to have making down, well working on amount of FO we do not seem to get a strong HT our CT is great
🙂
Running the business side is my answer to your question. Making candles after a couple years now isn't hard. Testing is cool... but taxes... sales taxes... budgets... ugh!
Definitely! I love budgets but I also am aware most don't. Lol
Happy birthday 🎊🎁🎂🎈
Thank you!
Happy birthday 🎉🎂🎈 I’m a huge fan of your channel. Thank you for the tips as I’m going act out on those and keep you posted.
Thanks Kia!
Hands down the biz aspect is more of a challenge. Even when I’ve had failures in chandlery I’ve been able to assess, re-evaluate and recover. But the biz struggle is real!!! I’m currently in the process of writing a business plan about the candle industry. What I’ve been able to pull for free online is antiquated data (common industry associations). Working the data and attempting to make projections has been my biggest challenge as a new small business owner. I’m too invested at this point to give up but 🤯. Data regarding the uptick in consumption resulting from the pandemic is sparse and man, that would be helpful.
Whew...venting 😂.
Short answer: Business start up, I didn’t even get to running it yet! 😂
Lol. I hear ya for sure!!! Lots of outdated or unhelpful info out there for sure! But sure sounds like you are doing everything you can!
Business struggling want to start but don’t have many products to sell yet. And trying to save up for the legal side of things I want to start right LLC, insurance etc. while I’m also seems like wasting money on different waxes and wicks that don’t work oils are expensive!! Learning a lot from you tho!
Thanks for another great video sensie
Happy bday!!!.!.!!.!.!!.!..!
Completely understand. Thanks for sharing. You are right... startup is costly and time consuming. But you will settle in and then it gets easier. :)
Happy belated birthday 🥳
Thanks Michelle!
Happy Birthday Wade! To answer your question, I love making candles and don't run into many problems other than having limited work space...I do however struggle with the business aspect...having a FT job and then getting overwhelmed with not knowing how to prioritize things such as labeling, listing, promoting. I'm terrible at writing descriptions and taking quality pics of my product. Initially I would just make products that I liked, and assumed others would like, and then list them. I then decided it might be better to have a way to allow the customer a way to tell ME what they like by creating a "Made to Order" listing where they can choose a vessel and a fragrance with drop menus....so far seems no one is into that kinda option.
Hey Steve. Thanks for the feedback. I find some struggles with the same things you do. I do not like the marketing aspects much either. I like making and I like business. But prioritization is VERY HARD. I've always been good at that, but I've had so much going on over the past 6 months that it's getting very difficult for me to keep up. So that has also been my struggle lately.
Happy birthday...... ♉️♉️ I’m up next may 10th
Nice. Happy early birthday!
Happy Birthday 🎂 & Thank you once again for another really informative video , my struggles are some of the business aspects, but getting there slowly but surely.
Thanks Leah!
Belated birthday wishes from 🇨🇦 Wade!
I have such admiration for your insight, craft and tutorials on here; they’re invaluable for candle enthusiasts and crafters.
I’d like your feedback on choosing a wooden wick for a candle business in terms of the legal requirements. I was initially hooked on the look and sound of the wicks; however, on further research I came across some strict labeling requirements (patent related) and also agreeing to conditions where one’s business can be audited? There’s a lot I still don’t get in terms of candle jargons. What are some things to keep in mind to secure one’s self and business if we go the route of wooden wicks?
Business.. Marketing..!
💯
YOU ARE GOOD I JUST SUBSCRIBED. THANK YOU
Thanks Cassandra! And welcome to the channel :)
😊
Happy Birthday!! Thirty seven can be great! So can fifty seven, it depends on your outlook. I am working on making a great candle using recycled bottles and used candle vessels. It's tough because each vessel is different. It's tough but I love cutting the bottles and enjoy the process One of the most helpful thing for me to hear right now is specific goals such as I want 8 candle options tested and ready by a certain date. Thanks for the great information
No problem and thanks for sharing Regina
Happy Birthday
Thanks Henrietta!
Happy birthday! I turned 38 in April :-) What I struggle the most is the marketing side. I'm having trouble finding/reaching new customers (I don't want to blast my budget on paid advertising). So even though I have a handful happy and returning, it's hard for me to get new ones... So definitely more videos on the business side of things, pleeeease! Greetings from Belgium!
Thanks Emma. And yes, I can relate. It's tough to know when to expand and how to do so at different stages I find
Maybe Im doing some things backwards but Im working on the business aspect of things a little ahead of my actual candle making. I want to know who Im going to make them for and what my goals are before making a ton of candles. I have made some candles but there were from a kit bought from amazon, so I have no idea what the wax or wicks were, so spending a lot of time learning and listening to others. I have ideas and have created my biz name, logo and label format. Im excited to see where this all takes me and continue learning. Your videos have been instrumental in my journey, Thank You!
Yep, there are certainly multiple approaches. Good luck to ya and thanks for the feedback! :)
I start off with candlemaking. The business aspect is still a slow process for me. I do have a goal to have my PR items completed by the fall of this year so I'm once again pleased that I came across this video so that I can get on top of it. I have bits and pieces but it's time to finally put the puzzle together.
Definitely is a grind, that is for sure
I don't know if you do it but can you do a video on how to market for private labeled wholesale
Hi Wade,
Your videos are so helpful and informative. I'm learning the candle making side if it and loving that part. But having trouble with the business side like marketing and things like that.
Thanks Allie. Yah, that comes with time. So pace yourself and don't stress too much. It will come. :)
Happy Birthday 🎂🎉🎈
I’ve been struggling with candle making. The CT is awesome but for some scents there is little to no HT 😩
Thanks and yes the ht can be a struggle
Dear Wade,
Happy Birthday! Thank you for making this video. As of the moment, I have been struggling in my candle making journey. I'm only a student here in the Philippines that wants to earn extra cash by making scented candles. I've been making a 50-50 parasoy candles with 9% Fragrance Oil. I follow the manufacturers melting temp- temp to add the fragrance oil- pouring tenperature. After curing for 14 days, my candle has good cold throw but it has a weak heat throw. My candle has a good melt pool. I test the heat throw by leaving the candle in a safe place burning in my room, leave it and then go back after 30 minutes and I can say that it has a weak throw , I can smell almost nothing out of the candle. I tried to give samples to other people and they agree that it has weak hot throw. I feel like im running out of money in my experimenting stage. Saving money as a student in this time of pandemic is a challenge. After watching this video and your other videos, it gives me hope to keep on trying, to change recipes and ofcourse hope for the best results to happen. Thank you Wade! May you inspire more candle makers out there. Looking forward to watch more of your interesting videos! 😁
Thanks Michael. I agree, hot throw is usually the biggest struggle along with wicking. I wish I had an easy answer for ya. I combat the same problems.
Happy Birthday!! Best wishes and many more :). To answer your question, I have more trouble candle making. I have a business degree so I'm good with the business aspect. I love Joy wax. I use 8oz and 16oz mason jars. I find that HTP 73 and HTP 83 both work pretty well. I get great cold throw, but have trouble getting a good hot throw.
Yah consistent hot throw is definitely tough. It's frustrating when one is good and another oil is not. :/
Mine is business for sure
👍
