    Not missing much IMHO with the Alphafly 3 except a lot of money LOL. Agree that if you prefer any any Vaporfly then the AF3 is unlikely to change your mind. Well it didn't for me. Rebel v4 is an "odd" one. Out of the box the "standard" one is indeed probably the widest shoe I have ever tried that isn't "meant" to be and with a narrow foot that is rather off putting. That said the upper (with an awful lot of lace pulling) has now moulded to my midfoot well (like I also did with the VF3) and just back from 10 steady miles in them and TBH kind of warming on me. That said despite being very light it is far from a "super" shoe. Perhaps I am less warming to the Mach 6 which "in theory" ought to be fit my narrow foot better but it's a typical "odd" Hoka fit and the foam am not finding that great. Look forward to hearing what you think about the Speed 4 and Pro 4. Need convincing I "need" Pro 4 although have had the previous 3.

      I know, I know. I’m more curious to run in the AF3 at this point. I also would like to compare it to the low plate configuration super shoes and see if what I think works for me, works. I do have the AF1 and AF2 I could do that with… anyway, it’s not urgent anymore. Once I can get a pair I will. I’m more frustrated with Nike overall.
      The NBv4… I want to get a pair to run in and see if my initial impressions were right. I loved the Rebel v1 & 2… I wanted to love the 4.
      I’m actually surprised you aren’t getting on with the Mach 6 better. It’s definitely a Hoka… I’m reminded of it everytime I put the shoe on. I really forgot what that all meant over the years. It’s been a refresher.
      First run done in the Speed 4… mixed opinions but overall positive. The Pro 4 will come out later in the week for me…

    Another great video and transparency around where the channel is headed. I’ve been Subscribed since the early days (somewhere around 500-700 Subs). The information deep dives keep me coming back to view some videos (Adidas and ASICS mostly) multiple times. Also, I love that the podcast is coming back. The podcast gives unique take on the sport we enjoy and is a joy to listen to.
    I am still waiting for the Adizero SL2 and Adios 9 to release. Your glowing review of the Supernova Rise has me wondering if I should pick up the Rise over the SL2 as my next daily trainer.
    Keep up the great work!

      Once we start seeing more of some brands 2024 shoes I plan to make updates to the brand deep dives, expanding it even more this year. Too many released shoes at the moment to do it now. That will be a summer project once releases slow down.
      I also have some more design deep dives I want to do. Again, likely summer when there is a new release drought.

    Interesting thoughts about the durability of the Velocity Nitro 3 and Mach 6. I have the Deviate Nitro 2 and the Nitro and Nitro Elite foam are still great at over 600 miles. My Mach 6 only has about 40 miles so I'm watching durability, too. I don't race but the Metaspeed Paris series has me more excited about the Superblast 2. V1 has been a godsend for saving my old legs on long runs.

    I have a pair of SC elite 4’s coming. I paid $207 USD shipped so I couldn’t say no. I’m hoping for the best. I get on well either way the sc trainer 1/2 and 1080v13. I’m not very fast so if I have to use it as a super trainer I’ll be happy.
    Edge Paris is inbound on Tuesday!

    Really enjoying your content and style; and thanks for the advice you gave me over the last couple of days. Regarding Hoka foam durability, I read that Hoka foam needs time to recover, resting 2-3 days between runs. Not ideal for a daily trainer, but worth considering for anyone who has a shoe rotation. Also interesting that in Thailand nearly all Hoka Mach 6's are wide versions.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 місяці тому +1

      Yup, I’ve always heard that about Hoka foams as well (and many other EVA forms). While I agree, rotating shoes so the foams can rest is a good idea… having that as a design attribute that you need to consider is not great.
      Also, here in Taiwan… Hoka fittings are often starting with a wide. That is also unacceptable that the standard width is too narrow for most.
      Though both Taiwan and Thailand are cultures where people live in sandals/slides/flip-flops or barefoot often… so wider feet and wider fits make sense here (and alot of Asia).

      The 1080v14 and 880v13 don’t fall under this. They are fine as cushioned or classic trainers. I no longer have faith in the 880v14 to be any good… but the last generation are just fine as they are, though the 1080 is still too soft.

    Your training volume puts me to shame haha, I really need to increase my running time. Looking forward to your commentary on the Rebel v4 (and the Saucony Endorphin Speed line too!), as I was a bit taken aback with the radical design change compared to the v3. However, 2024 is probably gonna be new daily trainer year for me what with the Peg 39 hitting 600k (the Triumph is in the 500k range), so I'm waiting for some (any) news on the Peg 41, but that Supernova Rise is a tempting proposition if and when it arrives. How do they compare to the Adizero SL btw? Cheers!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 місяці тому

      There are some big daily shoes this year. It’s a bit of a focus for the channel this year. I’m trying as many as I find interesting and will be comparing them quite a bit all year. I’ll even do a second “best of” video at year end for “daily trainer of the year” as well as “shoe of the year”.
      I think the Supernova Rise will compliment the SL 2. The SL 2 will be the more well rounded, true do it all… while the SN series is more the easy day compliment. I like rotating two trainers so it’s going to be a great pairing.

  • @cameronthaijohnson
    @cameronthaijohnson 2 місяці тому

    I actually enjoyed the Rebel v4 a lot at first as a lightweight daily trainer, but it seemed like the foam lost its extra pop really quickly. That is kinda what I was guessing would happen with only 20% peba and 80% EVA though. The SC Trainer v3 will probably have a similar issue, though v2 was already a mushy and not particularly poppy shoe from the beginning so the early miles will probably be an improvement at least.
    The SC Elite v4 is great though more as a super trainer or Superblast type shoe for me (although don't like that one). It is definitely a very comfortable/easy-going/approachable super shoe and probably an excellent mararthon racer for most people. It's not aggressive enough for me as a racer but makes a great trainer.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 місяці тому

      I get that about the SC Elite v4 and can see that… but there are better shoes out there that meet that. Though I suppose non from NB.
      The Rebel v4 is so frustrating to hear about the foam. I’ll get there and see for myself…

  • @nordicwilly6650
    @nordicwilly6650 2 місяці тому

    Really looking forward to your details thoughts on Rebel v4 when you have chance to buy the standard width. I cannot imagine the wide one. I tried the standard version and my admittedly narrow foot was swimming in the upper. Lots of excess scratchy fabric too. Why would NB do this?
    But one positive thing - NB usually cant my foot inwards even just standing there (let alone pronating when I run). Oddly the Rebel V4 did not maybe because of how wide the platform is. For this reason, I may try them out, especially after having read several anecdotes about initial dislike turning into praise once midsole breaks in.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 місяці тому +1

      That’s the larger issue with NB at the moment… their entire design direction is flawed and they will stick around for a few years at least. One shoe is easy to ignore but it’s ALL of their shoes suffering from the same issue.
      I’ll get there eventually… just gotta get a pair to run in… who knows when that will be.
      I can’t imagine the midsole of the Rv4 after “break in”… ugh.

    Hoka mach 6, feel a bit flat after 40km .. so what it will last for 100 maybe 200 😢 last mach lasted no more than 300 because lack of rubber on oursole - who right minded would even consider shoe like that, provided we have so many great choices right now 🤔

    Agree on the Alphafly, at this point my hype is down and even for the (4/4 here in the States) release of the Volt I'm kind of mixed on whether or not I want to get it or start gearing up for summer releases. Puma has a big season coming for the summer, and Asics has some notable releases as well. Plus, you have the unmentionable Adidas shoes coming in the fall if the rumors are to be believed (maybe they'll eventually release the Takumi Sen 10 here in the States as well since they still haven't done that), so it's not worth going through all the frustration Nike is causing. Hoping the Adizero SL 2 finally comes out as well, looking forward to that one.

    Don't be frustrated because of not having the possibility of buying an AF3. I had the chance to buy one even with some discount on it but I preferred to buy a Zegama with a really big discount (paid far less than half retail price) instead. As my runs are mostly trail runs I'll wait till black friday for my AF3 purchase and hopefully a "reasonable" priced Ultrafly.

    What I dislike about adidas running shoes is the « vanity » cutout to show the rods on the midsole and the fact that the heel is not padded and make the shoes runs long + the geometric cuts in general (german engineering = too much complications as in their cars).
    TS9 midsole wise was very good/very direct but as mentioned ; those details make the shoe not stable/locked.
    What’s good about the Metaspeed Paris is that you have all the surface of the shoes on the ground vs other brands.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  2 місяці тому

      Ya… I absolutely love the aesthetics of what Adidas has been putting out. However, I agree with some of the engineering building a bit over engineered. That midfoot cutout seems to be disappearing in some models… hopefully that is a larger trend.
      Also agree… given how narrow the Metaspeed Paris series are… there is so much surface area on that shoe. Could be problematic in some conditions (rock/gravel/dirt, not really super shoe terrain) but definitely adds to the “planted” feel of the shoes.

    This pains me to share but the Edge Paris was a miss for me, to the point that I’ve returned them. I put 30 miles on them including an 18-miler, and I didn’t realize just how narrow it was and how much that would affect me. I supinate on my right foot and I will say the foam’s inherent peba instability feels genuinely high up given the narrow platform that it affected me on both legs. For reference I’m 165-170 lbs, marathon race paces around 8:10-8:20 min/mile. I was really disappointed because I love the NB4 and SB so much. But I will likely be going AP3 or EP3 for marathon. To be fair the shoe (Edge Paris) is genuinely quick and has consistent energy return - it lacks a “wow” bounce but I think that’s by design with the Edge and again I think the shoe will be great for many just not anyone concerned with stability in rear and midfoot.

      That’s a bummer. I did find it a high and narrow platform as well. The first run it just felt like I was up on a platform. As the foam molded to my foot more it felt a bit more natural… but I like a nimble shoe and the MSEP feels so nimble. But running on cambered roads and off pavement is dicey, for sure.
      Asics is the type of company that definitely would actively try to reduce a “wow” factor. That is the Japanese way. It’s interesting to look at the Asics line and see the shoes they obviously are concepted in America (NB, SB) side-by-side with those form Japan (Metaspeeds, Magic Speed)… night and day there.

      @@SagasuRunning it was cambered roads specifically where I struggled. It’s 100% a nimble (and impressive) shoe though. Appreciate all your great content and engagement and thank you for the follow up!
