I would venture to say that the drummers ability to channel Bonzo's spirit into his drumsticks is why Page followed them around. Just jaw dropping awesomeness. Sent shivers down my spine to hear someone do those beats that well..
I was at this show. Hands down the best concert I've ever seen. 3 hours of heaven at the best venue in LA. I'm so glad it was documented and recorded so I could live these moments over and over.
You said it. I never thought there could be another drummer to play this like Bonham, but this drummer does not miss a beat and is fantastic. Plays about just as hard as Bonham also. Great stuff.
Went to the Oct. 19, 1999 at the Greek. Best show ever seen. Gorman killed it. My favorite drummer since. This was the best show of the nite. First row out of the pit, sitting next to Randy Johnson (theUnit). after the show Jimmy grabbed the mic and graciously thanked everyone and said "this is for you". He was stoked to have the young crowes back him up on the Zep power songs in a class way.
Page and the crowes make a great combination. Dunno why I never heard that they did this. Really great job doing one of my favorite all time Zep songs. It seems like a natural fit.
Best song of the nite, I was there 5th row. Gorman drove it home the entire show. Jimmy's last words to the audience, with a big smile on his face: "This show was for you". He knew it was the closest thing to a Zeppelin in decades.
Goddamn right it was the closest thing to Zeppelin. Only other good Zeppelin recorded live concert in my opinion was the royal Albert hall one in 1970.
If I'd been at this show I'd have gone outside and blown my head off when it was over, knowing it would never get any better. Imagine being in a rock and roll band and one night Jimmy Paige comes to play with you. The BC's kill it, well done, Chris does a great job with the vocals. Very true to the original. "Jesus gonna make me."
That's the best cover of any Led Zep song I've ever seen or heard. Helped a lot by having the real Jimmy there but everyone else was excellent. The Black Crowes have their act together.
It's a good one but you should definitely check out the 77's cover of Nobody's Fault. That, in my opinion, is the greatest Zeppelin cover I've ever seen or heard, and even without any original members. Hope you enjoy it.
other than Zep,these guys are such a great match for Page,Chris's vocals are so soulful,no one else could have done it so intensely, great job by the drummer as well thank you for posting this!
How have I never seen this??? The time Jimmy Page walked in and made the black crows into Zeppelin!! Doesn't work with most bands! That drummer killed it❤
Jimmy's level of artistry and diversity is LIGHT YEARS ABOVE ANYONE. Black blues players WISH they could make compositions as great as "ten years gone" Jimmy's catalog of critically acclaimed recordings is unmatched.
no dude, it isn't. Page sucks in this song. Trying to perform a cover of himself and failing. If he was trying to cover Blind Willie Johnson's original, as they were when recording their absolutely great studio version of In My Time Of Dyin', this performance would have been better by miles.
Kah'oo'un R. M. Klein you must be fucking deaf if you think that willie jonson and led zep versions are the same, they are completly different, also thhat song was not written by johnson its a traditional piece of blues
I never said they were the same... Have I? A cover is not "the same" as the original. It can attempt to be, or it can be completely different (like all covers by Led Zeppelin). Thanks for the info on the fact that it wasn't written by Blind Willie Johnson. I didn't know that.
Younger bands backing up older geezers is nothing new (Yardbirds and Howlin' Wolf, et al). Now, I am seeing my heros being supported by a newer breed. What a damn good performnce this is. If I close my eyes, I am back in Dallas, 1975.
Kurtis Williams I flew from NC to Tampa for their show, but Page had to pull out for back problems. We swapped our tickets and saw the Who the next night.
Jimmy Page's dalliance with The Black Crowes was amazing, I only wish it had lasted longer. I love Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes. I own everything that they released. I believe that Jimmy missed the opportunity to have dueling-guitars, in his Led Zeppelin days. Songs like Ten Years Gone required several guitars, a layered guitar-sound, which was lacking in his Led Zeppelin days.
It's already mind boggling and insane enough what Jimmy just by himself was able to do in Zep but with a 2nd guitar!? The universe said no the world is just not ready for that. Planet Earth would implode or explode.
MassiveAttack969, if you ever get the chance to see the tribute band Get The Led Out (GLTO), I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. They do just that. Recreate LZ's music in it's natural studio form only in a live setting. The use of three guitarists to capture Page's magic is incredible! Spine chillin stuff!!
You exactly expressed my thoughts. Enormous fan of Mr. Page and love The Black Crows as well. Jimmy always had to compromise when playing live because he so masterfully layered those guitars in the studio but here (in this live UA-cam video) we get it all. Lot's of the great bands have/had a second guitar but I don't think Page could have recorded with another second guitarist given he had that vision of what he wanted to produce....he's a virtuoso.
I have an excellent bootleg copy of this show on dvd & the video is taken from a handheld camera in the audience but the guy did a great job of zooming in & out & what more can I say about the audio it is a soundboard recording that was digitally enhanced & it sounds great. I recommend anybody who is a fan get this if they can!
Marriott was the man. I remember hearing a story from my Uncle, in which he saw Marriott perform and his mic went out..well good ole Steve never stopped singing and he could still hear him over everything. Boy that man could belt it out...what a damned voice.
Great charity gig around this time followed up by full-fledged tour. Immortalized on album "Live at the Greek" - best live album of this decade, bar none.
LZ played this relatively close in pace at Earl's Court. I didn't feel that it was too fast myself, although Jimmy obviously has lost a step or two and has some difficulty keeping up during the solo portions. Gorman ripped the asshole out of his drum kit. Anyone that thinks he's not a good drummer needs to have their head examined. Do you not see Jimmy looking back at the kit with a huge smile? This is an extremely good cover.
I saw this Show at The Greek Theatre In Los Angeles C.A. And it was Amazing. A few months later they released The Double Album Of That Show. It was Incredible to see and Relive that Night under The Stars With Jimmy Page & The Black Crows 😇😎
Holy Shit,, just bumped into this. MAD props to TBC... NAILED this timeless jam. Jimmy.. priceless bro. Yeah.. dude on the skins was going off no doubt! This was a great Zepp' album. Wish for more music like Physical 'G' to come out someday! \,,\
Saw this show in 2000 at the star lake Pittsburgh still the best show I have ever seen there was so Much day light pot smoke tho the next day the radio station w d v e said that Jimmie page and the black crows said thank you Pittsburgh for the fog.
Only a band like The Black Crowes could do justice as a Zep cover band because The Black Crowes have always been deep blues from the beginning and never swayed from their roots. Also, their lead singer is one of the few that really sounds like Plant. In fact, in the 90s when they became famous Plant said in interviews that he really liked The Black Crowes and Nirvana because they sounded the most exciting at that time.
FREAKIN' SICK! Don't know that any other band could have pulled this off with JP and i think he knew that going into this gig or else he wouldn't have done it! Sounds as fresh and soulful as it did back in the day!
Jimmy Page's body language is saying "I really dig this drummer" I remember when Page toured with these guys. I wish that I had gotten a ticket to the show.
I think he was teleported back in time there for a few moments, he was in Madison Square Gardens and John Bonham was siting behind the kit. Then you see him kind of snap out of it.
OMFG!!!!! I am just blown away!!! I could have sworn this WAS Led Zeppelin performing.. Chris Robinson sings almost identical to Robert Plant!!! Ah MAN!!! Now I have to Idolize him too!!! Incredible....... utterly amazing...... WOW.
The opening riff goes right to my gut everytime I listen to it. I remember when JP cut this tour short due to a bad back. I felt like a kid who's ice cream scoop had plopped onto the pavement after the first lick. I had tickets and had to get a refund. At least JP got better, i think. =^{
HOLY. FUCK. I had the divine opportunity to see them on this tour in Pittsburgh in '00 and The Who was at the same venue the next day, with Entwistle on bass and Jason Bonham on drums. YOWZA. What a weekend!
my Favourite thing about this Video is THE DRUMMING! GOSH such Awesome drumming Dude, BONZO would be proud!
#Zoso
I love Jimmy's casual grunge look that he had going on with crows. He's like your mechanic uncle who came around to jam. ❤️🤘
The star of this performance........the Drummer. He made John Bonham proud. That is one of Bonham’s very best drum beats.
What a master Jimmy Page is.
I would venture to say that the drummers ability to channel Bonzo's spirit into his drumsticks is why Page followed them around. Just jaw dropping awesomeness. Sent shivers down my spine to hear someone do those beats that well..
Oh fuck yes
Steve Gorman is a fucking boss, got done dirty by the Robinson Brothers.
@@paulfbeatty dont know the story, will have to read his book
Yeah cant say Ive sen a clip where Jason shines like this.
Sweet downbeat
An amazing live performance. Props to the Black Crowes. Sound quality on this video is excellent.
That drummer is gettin' it!
I think John Bonham would've been proud to see this.
He has to. The song requires it.
Hell yes he is !
When Jimmy Page is looking directly at you at the turn, you have no choice .
Yes he is very heavy handed like Jon 😊
I was at this show. Hands down the best concert I've ever seen. 3 hours of heaven at the best venue in LA. I'm so glad it was documented and recorded so I could live these moments over and over.
The Greek was there too
When music rained but this song just hit hard and so.good
St Peter blow ur horn yaha

Robinson's vocal style really lends itself better to this ZEP song than some of the others he sings.
The band really manages to nail this classic.
Saw them at Net Aid. Third row. Could practically reach out and touch Chris.😁
Ever notice how much he looks n sounds like Terry Reid ??? amazing !!!!
nine and a half minutes of genius
Shomer Fuckin' Shabbas!
+Winston Smith Well... That makes you one of the little Lebowski achievers
So...racially, he's pretty cool?
Page and the crowes make a great combination. Dunno why I never heard that they did this. Really great job doing one of my favorite all time Zep songs. It seems like a natural fit.

ROCK ON!! LOVE IT!!
Goddamn right it was the closest thing to Zeppelin. Only other good Zeppelin recorded live concert in my opinion was the royal Albert hall one in 1970.
Where was it
Nice
His drumming was second to one!
Holy Crap. Major respect for this cover. That drummer really DID do Bonzo proud. Just "wow".
Agreed indeed ✌️
@@bollweevil1976 Steve Gorman, and the brothers have cut him out......

This is good. But check out Samantha Fish's take. She deserves mad props too
Al Pal it isn't actually a Zeppelin song. It is originally from the 1920s.
1927 Blind Willie Johnson
Thank You by Chris Cornell, or any Zeppelin cover by heart
3 guitar attack + Chris' unmatched passion+ Steve Gorman kicking the shit out of his drumkit=greatest live album of all time....sho' nuff
The Black Crows drummer was spot on! Wow.
He’s the greatest guitar player I’ve ever seen period
You know it's Jimmy's playing by the second note without even looking. He's a wonder!
Jimmy and Black Crowes a nice collaboration indeed.
The black crows' drummer is best i've even seen playing "in my time of dying"
other than Zep,these guys are such a great match for Page,Chris's vocals are so soulful,no one else could have done it so intensely, great job by the drummer as well thank you for posting this!

Jimmy still kills it
This is 1999....
i bet he still kills it :) in 2016
jim I don't think so.... he hasn't been playing out
He ROCKS!!!!!!
Came to watch Page, but was blown away by the drummer. Hell yea man, I love getting goosebumps!
I love to watch the emotion on page's face when he plays......magical.
that is the best robert plant imitation ever ... which of course we all knew it would be
Right! Nobody else comes close mate. Chris is a rock god
Jimmy's level of artistry and diversity is LIGHT YEARS ABOVE ANYONE.
Black blues players WISH they could make compositions as great as "ten years gone"
Jimmy's catalog of critically acclaimed recordings is unmatched.
Tight. Very Tight. Love the Crowes and the Zep. This is magical
I give it a 10 - Nothing but a stellar production!!!
I never heard a song with 12 changes in it until I heard this song 30 years ago.
Every time I hear Zeppelin. They still sound new.
Jimmy + Drummer = perfection 🏄🏄🏄😜
Hey Kids, this is what live music sounds like, just so you know..because it is not gonna be around too much longer. So take it in....
a nice tribute to blind willie johnson!!!!

TEMPO!!!!!!!! Way too fast....
Eric Waters
I believe Mr. Page set the tempo in the intro . . . .
Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes are absolutely awesome , nuff said
95% anyway. Anyone else would have destroyed it.
All these years later. Jimmy knew what band to pick. Forever lasting
Congrats to Rock n Rollers like Jimmy Page to make it passed 70.

Always liked Jimmy page and black crows together and separate. All the musicians are tight and Chris's vocal are spot on. So cool
the drummer is spot on
The smile on Page's face says it all. Period.
I remember this CD coming out, WOW, it blew OUR minds.
Stay sober Jimmy, Jack and Jim no longer can hang in.
I assume you are referring to Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
For me, this was the coolest thing ever..
physical graffitti is by far the best led zep album. they reached their apex of creativity & talent.
probably my favorite Zeppelin song. RIP Bohnam
