I watched the whole hearing expecting crypto to be crushed, but it was almost entirely positive with a lot of open and curious people asking questions. Brooks is an amazing spokesperson. Unbelievable how well prepared he was, he had an answer to everything.
Yes, McHenry showed real understanding. Brilliant to see that. So different to the Congress hearings a few years ago where tech leaders were so incompetently questioned.
I think McHenry knows the horse has left the barn on this one. Congress isn't going to regulate a decentralized network. My guess is McHenry is afraid his colleagues are too dim to understand the upside of what's happening and that they'll try to control it from DC.
This guy is the precedent of how one should ask a question. The way he predicated and based his question on web 1,2 was the most appropriate way to make people understand the web 3, blockchain and the whole ownership thing.

The third tier is where blockchain acts as a platform for developing apps like one would on a smartphone platform. “People” would own this platform by investing in something like Ethereum. This is silly in my opinion. While Ethereum smart contracts do allow “developers” to create simple apps which can use Ether to run, there is little evidence these could even begin to rival the scale of existing internet apps and services. Please I need someone to help me trade or invest the forex or crypto market because I'm tired of trading in losses myself. I've blown my account twice and it's frustrating..
Please how can I reach this Expert Nancy everyone is talking about?
It's refreshing to see intelligent conversations still exist out there.
Ik most people are idiots or don’t know how to explain something, they had clear questions and understandable answers.
This was probably the best set of questions I've ever heard someone ask in a political setting. And I mean ever.
And that's kind of sad really.
And also a great explanation to what can be a very complicated answer.
And I like that Mr. McHenry recognizes that if America handles this wrong, then this tech can and will leaves the shores of the US.
It really isn't
@@anna-flora999 what really isn't?
@@ddavis8988 it really isn't the best set of questions. I was missing a few, like "what would stop big cooperations from getting a majority stake", "if the amount of coins is finite, how will the system be stable to deflation? And if all coins are mined, what long term insensitive will there be to spend the ressources to maintain the network?"
@@anna-flora999 "This was probably the best set of questions "I'VE EVER HEARD SOMEONE ASK IN A POLITICAL SETTING."

@@ddavis8988 I mean, even "if you don't charge people for using Facebook, how do you make money?" is a better question than anything asked in this video, imo
The congressman asked questions out of knowledge, that made this hearing go very wonderfully..
Investing in crypto now is really cool especially with the current rise now.
This entire chain of replies sounds like one big SCAM. Reproducing replies, even adding in the creepy contact information trying to get people to invest in this Adrian guy. If you google his name, the word SCAM comes up as well... Beware.
@@shanelamberth That's right! This is classified as a cluster spambot where the bot tries to make the scam look real by adding other accounts that replies to make it look like an actual conversation.
@Mohammed Suresh damn, if you are a bot I am impressed.
Patrick Johnson I’ll just dump the money I saved not buy Starbucks everyday into crypto
LOL, you wanna take that comment back? Its literally tanking right now because its been exposed as a dead asset. If Crypto was so great, its time to shine would be right now because it would be safer than the dollar and that isn't happening. Crypto is a scam.
It's really important to an issue to have the right people asking and answering questions.
Cryptocurrency is such an obvious bait-and-switch tactic to bring about a global digital currency.
We are digging our own digital graves. We are forging our own digital chains that will be used to enslave us.
It's probably already too late.
Unless God himself helps us.
A congressional hearing with well-thought out questions and an informed witness?
Perchance we've returned to the main timeline.
Don’t give me hope
No i believe we have return normality

They don’t bat an eye when he says “Google and a few other companies own the internet”. That being said, it was the most intelligent conversation that’s been had in those chambers in three decades.
They do though. At least in physical form (cables, servers, etc...)
@Steve Sherman Without the giant services like Google the ISPs serve no function and don't profit, no? Even though stuff like Google is built within their framework making them structurally more important, I think it's still very accurate to say that Google (& etc.) has all the actual power.
That's only because Maxine waters was tuned completely out. If she had even made an attempt to understand any part of this conversation it would have gone much differently
@Steve Sherman Google owns more than 2% of ALL the servers on the planet and over 63 THOUSAND MILES of submarine cable. That's just the cable underwater.
Parler was shut down because Amazon found out it was on their servers, and so they just killed it.
Level 3 communications (century link) owns 79% of ipv4 addresses.
Who exactly do you think owns the internet? Nobody? It's just magic in the air?

This is by far the most productive and educational congressional meeting I've ever witnessed. 5 minutes of progress :)
I think the congressman has done an awesome job of putting things in perspective in relation to policy making concerns
I'm so glad this kind of discussion is finally happening in congress!
newsflash . noone there except those two understood what was happening .
What discussion? All I saw was a sales pitch
This is how normal people interact with each other.
this is the reason we need younger policy makers

Agreed, there should be an age min but more importantly an age ceiling for these roles
True becoz world changes, and at sometime we too will eventually become boomers.
It’s not an easy job you can just roll into after college
Honestly, this conversation is really good imo. Congress is trying to understand it properly and something that isn't easy for the average person to understand. If you compare this to the zucc thing, the contrast is crazy
WHAT A GREAT HEARING. Finally, something actually bi-partisan.... Our lawmakers did great today, same with the witnesses. Crypto is the future.
Abolish fiat currency for good, fiat currency is the biggest scam in the world.
It is bipartisan, they're just trying to figure out a way to tax it and use it for the prosperity of the US empire. Make no mistake, that's what this is really about.
@@zachary9925 your right about that, because there's a lot Cryto activity floating around out there they don't know how to handle yet

Obviously trading on bitcoin is very volatile and risky to trade that's the reason most traders trade with an expert. Learn to Invest or trade under a guide, to avoid losses in the market

Trading successfully is just trading with an expert in the field who can provide proper guidance, and trades with the right strategies and also make good profit, huge returns on investment.
The stock market is one of the potential places to invest your money, investing in stock is often risky which draws attention to the huge gains and losses of investors, if you can manage the risk you can take advantage of the stock market to secure your financial position and earn money
I'm even more amazed at the person asking the questions and how he broke things down so that the other guy could then develop it further for the rest of the room.
@@dm-oz9yd Well, you are an example of why all of this is needed. Only a very small subset of the world's population understands the use of blockchain technology. It is not just about cryptocurrencies and such. It doesn't help to gaslight anything that one doesn't understand. Being a cynic is fine as long as one actually makes the effort to educate on the subject at hand.

Indian parliamentarians should learn from this, also they need to connect with right people and not the exchange owners.

Diversifying my $420k portfolio across the market to withstand inflation is my goal can you help me?
Just find quality assets that have long term potential, and ride with those assets. I have found it takes someone who is very familiar with the market to make such good picks

He’s the only man who made me understand clearly what decentralized really means.
Exactly what I was thinking! Basically google doesn’t own it but the people do!
@@realadammason It does not mean "people" own anything, it means "people with more money" own everything including the rights to make decisions.
The answer was very misleading, as corporations don't own anything on the internet. All they own are servers that can show you the content. The content is still owned by the person who creates it, which is why you have copy right laws and why social media platforms have strict rules to follow if they don't want to be held accountable for the things people post on their platforms.
The reason web 3.0 is being pushed with crypto currency is because it gives the people who are already invested in it absolute control over it. But you don't need things like the blockchain and crypto currencies to make a decentralized web. In fact most would argue you can already do them.
Stud! Tnkyu dude
It clearly does not mention how crypto prices are manipulated by a few large investors. See in simple terms crypto is like a casino. You will mostly lose but when you win you will win big. The only difference is casino is automated and there is luck involved while here you just hope you are in the right place at the right time before the people at the top take decisions.
@@edwardspencer9397 the important difference is that those investors can't change the _supply_ of the crypto like they can the dollar. the exchange rate price can be manipulated of course, just like the price of any good can be manipulated.
I liked Mr. Brooks best of the speakers. He's super sharp..
Good to see qualitative Congress members, good job going on here. Having faith now!
This is how we need people in government and also the reponsible technocrats who are humble enough to explain things about technologies.
I disagree. This video highlights how antiquated are system is. The fact that we have lawmakers who don't understand these matters highlights how woefully inefficient our system of government is. We need to upgrade to a Direct Democracy using modern technology instead of plutocratic oligarchs who spend most of their time raising money instead of learning the necessary information to effectively do their jobs!
Disagree. We don't need the government let alone the people in it. This videos describes exactly how they (government) will lose the control over us (people).
This was literally the best crypto explanation I've heard
He made it sound like having tokens means people are actually going to listen to you. Buy 1 eth and try to call the shots, see what happens. You can do the same as a shareholder of a company.
This is so refreshing to see and the questions from the congressman is concise and educated ones with the responses explained in an elementary level to grasp.
Scripted for sure. Cool either way.
Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.

I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 30k in crypto and made about $246k, but guess what? Gotta throw props to McHenry as well. He asked great questions back and responded with a slightly informed sense of interest and curiosity which gave Brooks a nice avenue to explain things quite nicely.
This felt like an understanding that crypto isn't going anywhere and the government really doesn't know how to deal with it. I hope all future discussions will be this respectful and professional.

As long as big tech companies are actually making revenue from their users they should be regulated accordingly. Leaving them to decide and create separate laws makes them a parallel state but also a part of the traditional state where they have a limited liability. So who protects the user?
