    That articulated gorget is amazing.

      It is! It was fun to direct him turning his head for the shot lol.

      I have never known that there was such an articulated gorget in this world.

    Ed's harness really is jaw dropping! The armet/close helm and articulated gorget combo is easily my all time favorite form of head protection.
    Btw, did the articulated plates on the inside of his elbows make it harder to score against him?

    • @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
      @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841  7 років тому +5

      Yeah, it was next to impossible to get anything in there. Only available targets were the palm of the hand, armpit and groin ;)

      Evan 2:51 look at the „beard” of helmet. If you look closely you’ll see that left plate is overlaping the right one so hinge are on oposite sides. So its an armet. 3:38 and at the back you can see those hinges.
      Btw close helmets usuwally have gorgets built in, while armets always have detached gorget

      Evan its jaw droping for us but that armor is his walet's nightmare

    • @Evan-rj9xy
      @Evan-rj9xy 7 років тому

      Pawel Yeah sorry, I didn't intend for it to sound like I wasn't sure which helmet he has. I know it's an armet. I just meant that I really like the look of both kinds of helmets :)
      Tankles Oh yeah totally! There was a little bit of a game going on at the event where we were trying to guess how much he spent on it. Not a single guess was even close to under 5 digits o_0

    lovely to see some 16th century armour in action. Im afraid i would have been very mean and tried to hook his wooden leg! LOL!

    I love his harness so much. I'm not normally a 16th century fan, but his armor is an exception (and exceptional).

      TheBeastWithin, yeah so did we! I too don't normally care for the 16th century, but the craftsmanship on this harness was simply amazing.

      Yeah, something about those squared sabatons doesn't sit well with me.

    Awesome video, I don't think I've seen such an advanced armor kit before, all that articulation!!! Even with those few disadvantages with range of motion, seeing so few gaps was impressive, I feel like a career knight would be hard-pressed to defeat in that suit of armor!
    Loved seeing a bit more sparring footage! Point of interest for me is seeing a number of shots to the palm, it makes sense but I would have not quite considered it before watching this. Hey, gotta hot whatever opening presents itself, yes?
    Great video, keep it up!

    Do your ears ring after fighting in harness? From the outside it sounds like a racket but inside must be much worse, I'd imagine.

    • @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
      @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841  7 років тому +2

      Rodrigo de Piérola, sometimes, but a period solution for that was to line the helm with beeswax. Ben and I will do this for our helms eventually. It's really only a problem with pommel strikes and getting hit with the haft of an axe.

      These are made by Scott Wilson, from Dark Wood Armoury. We'll be picking up a pair from him soon and will do a full review on them in the near future :) These are a different style then the ones listed on his page. Be sure to contact him and ask for the "updated" version. Tell him we sent you ;) www.darkwoodarmory.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_52&zenid=9gbqku1m0k4rmivpas6pvuf414

    Why do you emphasize no mail, but still count thrusts to the armpit?

    • @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
      @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841  7 років тому +3

      Cuz whenever we do a strike against mail, in order for it to count we need to add structure to it (in order the compress the soft tissue underneath) so with no mail simply placing the point or cutting with the edge counts as a point. Feel free to watch our earlier video on the subject ua-cam.com/video/fWBC6Y7u1S4/v-deo.html

    Oh c'mon. You're missing a leg and replaced it with a period themed wooden one? Instead of a MACE? What's wrong with you?! :P Just think, the studs would make for great traction! And an unexpected kick to the nuts with a mace for a foot would be awesome.
