      I mean honestly man, if someone wasn’t gracious in defeat and victory. Then they’d become intolerable and would be run out of the club.

    A lot of these guys are moving incredibly fast. Wow! I generally consider myself a pretty quick fencer but in harness a couple of these guys look like they would run circles around me. Great work is going on over there for sure! I will have to fight some of them at the next C7!

    Can you add names for each bout? Maybe do a quick run down of peoples armor, what the style an era, the weakness and strengths.

      We'll look at adding names in the future. We'd love to get interviews with each fighter discussing their kit, but time doesn't always allow for that. Especially if we're teaching and giving multiple lectures. -Reece

      I'm just thinking now that what you need is a Herald or just some announcement from the ref, X in A corner, Y in B corner.
      That kind announcement is fast simple and everyone enjoys being recognized, the points are easily called to sir/lady X .
      That would add to the feel but not take too long.

    Would it be possible for you guys to do more technique videos? I understand that you've been showing techniques as you work through them, but it would be interesting to see a video explaining some of the basics of the various weapons and styles you use.

      We were getting back to training with the intent on doing more interpretations, but then we got hit with the Covid-19 scare and are looking at going into lockdown soon. We've got a lot of interpretations and were even discussing about creating a video series covering the basics. Will look into it once this situation improves-Reece

    We hope the October event will provide something which we can all look forward to- the rainbow at the end of a storm. This is an appropriate event to bring a spouse or loved one. Don't forget swimwear, a hot tub and indoor swimming pool are included among the many amenities at the barn. Plan on a half hour or full hour with the massage therapist for a reasonable fee. More info will be posted at KCSword.org as it becomes available.
    Ben and Reece - thanks for the plug!

      I have no idea. But wouldn’t they do it? They seem to like showing weapon grabs? Even though grabbing an opponents rondel dagger while in full armor might be seriously challenging in most circumstances

      It is in fiore's flower of battle, he even goes so far to say "if i need a dagger i shall use my foe's" speaking from experience, the usual right side belt stow is extremely convenient for snatch and stabs

    I was wondering if how common a jupon over breastplate is and if it is an advantage or disadvantage in a one on one duel or melee? Does the leather on brigandine or coat of plates catch differently then clean plate or maille as you see a lot of blade skittering off but sometimes it ends up guiding the strike to a vulnerable spot maybe? The melee bit looked super fun.

    I don't think many people realize how difficult it is to break riveted mail with a thrust, much less continue on to penetrate the arming doublet underneath. I feel like very few of the 'points' earned here would actually have done any real damage. As much as i'm critical of BotN and the lack of historical authenticity in the harnesses, I feel like it's probably a more accurate representation of how infantry combat would unfold in the 13th-16th centuries.

    • @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
      @pursuingtheknightlyarts6841 3 роки тому +1

      Well, it's not about breaking the maile at all. For instance, a popular target we see them strike at is the armpit. You can place your point in the area, but the maille will only allow to go a quarter of an inch (assuming you have 6mm rings), so in order to pierce the auxiliary artery you need to apply structure behind the strike. By compressing the soft tissue it'll allow you to puncture that artery. We plan to make a series of videos showing this in the near future. -Reece

      @@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841 Thanks for the response! I'd be very interested to see that video series. If it's possible I would love to see tests on a piece of riveted maile backed by doublet material and some type of analogous tissue(pork/gelatin). I have appreciated HEMA for as long as I've been aware of it but I've also been skeptical of the efficacy of many techniques in the treatises, particularly those designed for use against armored opponents. If a piece of gambeson material can stop a bodkin from a mary rose replica warbow, how can a combatant hope to defeat maile and a doublet with a halfsword thrust?
