The best and the most realistic medieval 1v1 tournament I've ever seen 👍👍👍 More PLEASE 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! We've been dealing with some health and equipment issues as of late, but hope to get back to making content soon, even if it's discussing the topic of Harnischfechten. -Reece
This video is an interesting experience!
Yes! It's very challenging but fun!-Reece
You guys are all a shining example to Hollywood, the SCA, Knight Fight, M1 Medieval, and anybody else that real armored knightly combat can and should be done with realistic rules such as these (thrusting allowed, proper targeting required, etc.). You are also a beaming example that even in the thick of fighting the teaching of the masters hold true, and that one can fight full speed with utmost elegance!
By the way you guys all look damned good doing it! Way better than any of the other groups I have seen!
Thank you for the awesome comment! We work really hard to make this both educational and entertaining. We just with we had the budget like Hollywood has lol! Many of the fighters here have been long time practitioners of HEMA for years, if not decades. In my opinion, fighting in full harness really shows your knowledge and skill about the system, more so then fighting unarmoured (Fiore seemed to think so too). Someday I'd love to get an indoor space and have multiple cameras to capture everything from multiple angles and the space needed for group melees. Thanks for the great compliment! We're so happy to hear people like yourself have found it to be worthwhile. -Reece
dat guy withot the one leg. OMG. Its so honorary to see how hes fights. Personal like to dat men!
Really medieval fencing!
It's great fun not only to see how Armour works but to see how it works it a sporting context.
I'd love multiple angle's but i'm sure that scavenging spare camera crew is on list for next year.
Once again the only thing i wish is that theirs titles per fight and an intro for each fighter on video.
An you've herd this before, giving every one a announcement the once that there there X feet an inch's an Y pounds, Z pound in harness.
Harness-fighting is a lot like wrestling, weight an size matters once you there grappling.
I am sure that most fighters will graciously give you a few minutes for a run down of there kit, an in deep detail if you can just workout the time timing.
Glad you enjoyed our work! We had another camera in the right corner, but unfortunately the footage was corrupted and had the one camera. Ideally, we'd love to have cameras at each corner post in the lyst so that you could see from all the angles and high enough to were you can prevent people from blocking the view (fighters, marshals and judges).
I'd love to pull each fighter aside to discuss their harnesses, tactics and their martial tradition they study, but at events like this time is short. It takes everyone several hours to get into their armour and prepare all the necessities required ( water stations, tables for helmets and gauntlets, weapon and armour safety checks, etc) . Obviously a lot of logistics involved, which might explain why no one has done a channel like this before 😂. We absolutely want to improve the quality of the channel and we appreciate any kind of feedback we get. Thank you for the suggestions!-Reece
Love the video !
Every time I hear a pole-hammer head hit a helmet I cannot imagine the effect the real thing had.
Yeah, it would be a bad day with a real axe blow to the head lol! -Reece
8:40 that sneaky murder stroke was so awesome
Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! We're glad you enjoyed the video and have read your concerns regarding the music. We're limited with what's available that is royalty free, so we've tried to make it work as best we could. I turned the volume a lot in the mix, but the track increases in volume. Just how they mixed it. Will look into eventually creating our own original music, so we'll have full control of the mix and provide variety to the videos. Again, we apologize if the music was too distracting and will work on improving it going forward. Thanks! -Reece
My 8 year old loves watching this channel and thinks he can see secret weaknesses and that Reece is a really good fighter but that he would just charge his leg and tackle it and since he is so small that Reece wouldn't be able to hit him or get him off. He calls this his leg leach attack. He has his own mask and fencing glove and a junior foil plus a lightsaber and nerf swords and a nerf shield so he's just beginning the gear hoarding. If I was one of the 1% I'd totally get him armor made because he's wanted to be a knight since he could basically talk though sometimes he says he'd rather be a pirate because they get boats. Take care guys!
It’s interesting to me that no one is talking about how good the ref is! In all these points he sees something and instantly gets on top of it and doesn’t seem to miss a strike! Very very nice!
It was an honor and a privilege to be at this event.
The honor was all ours! We hope to see you again at the next event! -Reece
Bob completely owned the center line in the last hour here. A great example of the importance of fundamentals.
Totally. Bob is a beast!-Reece
I am really happy that I've found you guys and this channel. Your videos allow me a chance to be a part of this awesome community even on the Internet. Thank you!
Thank you! We're really happy that you found this community and continue to build upon it. Hopefully, we'll see you on the field someday and take part! -Reece
Extremely interesting it was very cool to see, even if just a glimpse, of what knight v.s. knight fighting was like. (the spear fighting was kinda wonky tho)
1v1 me with a spear then, peasant. 😅
Keep up the good work guys! This channel is truly one of a kind!
Thank you! We appreciate that very much! -Reece
master Fiore would be proud :)
Thank you so much! That's so cool to hear that. I'm certain, Fiore would correct us on several things and maybe break and arms or too lol! -Reece
Been waiting for the c7 to come out! Love watching the bouts, keep up the good work guys!
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate the kind words and support!
It will be 2 years active training in the Bologonese style for me come November. I hope that after I graduate college and move (in 8 years or so) I'll be able to get a proper harness and get into the armored side of HEMA!
Nice! We'd love to see you attend someday! Feel free to message us on our FB page if you have any questions on how to get started. WE'd be happy to help :D -Reece
About my only problem with this is they're wearing Cavalry Armor. That's designed for riding into battle on a 4 pommel saddle, and while it's possible that they dismounted, or were horsed, one of them still had the Lance Rest (Under his right arm) attached. Just a pet peeve of mine, that armor looks real nice, but if you're going to demonstrate/practice footman's techniques, you might as well dress the part. (Knights were trained in both. The potentially lethal difference is the insides of the legs aren't very well protected. Since you seem to be going for weak-points in the armor. There's a pretty big one. I assume they're both wearing cups.)
I doubt that most maul hits to the helm would be fatal or permanently injuring. That being said most would be incapacitating through pain and disorientation, at which point a knight likely wouldn't be capable of much fighting. In this case his mates would have to cover his retreat or he'd surrender for a Ransom.
It's easy to think that blunt weapons make armor useless, but in both those cases the knight lives to fight another day, a luxury unaffordable without such great protection.
Yeah, we think the same. We hope to do some testing in the future with energy pads to get readings and see which techniques are deadlier. -Reece
So this bis what it really looks like - amazing.
Knights Lyst to BJJ players:
Your BJJ has no power here!
Has there ever been any mixed weapons at these kinds of things? Maybe not for points but to just try out.
These types of harnischfechten bouts are with the idea of judicial duels in mind. That means that both parties need to have the same weapons so that they can be on equal grounds. I'm sure that in free play bouts the mess around with different weapons paired up, like at the end you saw when they were having a group fight, one guy had a sword instead of a poleaxe.
@@GoGoDani Thats what I thought, Judicial Duels, they are in a small ring after all.
There really ought to be more of that; Gladiatoria shows fighters starting with a spear, small shield, sword and dagger and suggests various tactics for alternating between your weapons and for winning in asymmetrical match-ups. I've done it and it adds a lot to the fight.
Doing team fights with that kind of set up would be really great.
Interesting that it so often comes down to the dagger.
We see that happening in the fight manuals as well🤔-Reece
FANTASTIC !!!!!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😁👍-Reece
Speed up to 1.25 and it's gonna look like an holywood fighting
i think that is Knyght Errant in the back with the camera at 4:39
He's been getting a lot of footage of these kind of events. I wonder what he has in store.
@@Leubast he's a bastard for not having been uploading lately. Nah... I know he has a baby, so whatever lmao. It's time us younger guys started making our own videos.
How much to get a set of armor to compete in this sport?
Where does one buy such armor and blunted swords?
Ben has improved a whole lot. Has he incorporated the spring steel gear into his kit yet?
Yeah, he has. His kit remains the same for the most part. Only curiass and pauldrons are mild steel, the rest is spring. -Reece
Majestic
Zombies would stand no chance against a fully plated knight. Need less modern zombie movies, and more tanky medieval zombie movies.
From head to toe, how much does those armor would cost ya my friend?
No shade or anything, but I find this 100 times cooler than buhurt to watch
Nice mordschlag! Also kudos to the referee. This must be really hard to judge...
Thanks! It was fun to pull off 😁 Yeah, Bill Grandy did an amazing job!-Reece
Awesome warhammer!
could someone give me a definition of Lyst I tried google but got nothing
You'll have to dig into the sources themselves. In "the Play of the Axe" they mention it in the first section of the treatise and the section covering the plays of the demi hache 👍-Reece
@@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841 thank you I will do that, by the way thanks for showing me the world of armored combat
You guys do better every time
Thanks! The practice and dedication has pulled off. As, Sir Chardonnay says "Those that do more are worth more". -Reece
Hey there, been subscribed to the channel for some time now and I'm loving it, but after watching for so long, the music gets VERY repetitive and almost makes me want to mute the video. I think that having no music would be preferable, just the ambient sounds of battle.
We're limited with the amount of royalty free music available. We'll see about other options in the future. Thanks for your comment.
-Reece
Great video! But please change or remove the music entirely, it's SO BAD.
Thanks! Most people seem to enjoy the music in the background. Is the music the best? No, We'd prefer something else, but our options are limited with royalty free music. Eventually we'd like to create our own soundtrack for the channel, but that'll be some time before that. -Reece
I think the best solution would be to lower the music volume in the mix.
@@gror24 Already did that, but the music increases in the mix. Will try to use something else going forward. -Reece
