Thanks so much. I have a midterm exam tomm. and my head was just blank. I watched every vedio about every single chapter I took , and now I understand them. You are great
Little after I made this comment I learned the reason why Aluminum is said to have 3+ charge. It's not that it has such a charge by default but it has a "tendency" to borrow its electrons in order to form what's called an octet in its valence shell. In order to form such an octet it needs to give out exactly 3 electrons, making it positively charged. Since a given compound where Aluminum is a part of is neutrally charged, the other part of the compound will have a negative charge, balancing it out, eg. Aluminum-Chloride (AlCl₃) - Chlorine has a tendency to acquire only one more electron to form an octet, hence it becomes negatively charged part of the compound, but in order to balance the compound completely (Remember, Aluminum gives away 3 electrons), it needs three Chlorine atoms.
Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for explaining the difference between Elements, Atoms, Molecules and Ions in AP/General Chemistry. Chemistry is built/ well known because of these important materials. This is an error free video/lecture on UA-cam TV with the Orgnic Chemistry Tutor.
Thankyou so much i won't fail class because of you thankyou im grade 8 and i didn't attend class because i was sleeping and my mom was like you're going to fail class but even if i was in class i wasn't going to understand both ways but you helped so much thanks im taking notes it's 2:21 am but anyways im going to be thankful to you all my life 🙏😊💜

4:55 - When he's talking about Atoms vs Ions, is the example of Aluminum having 3+ charge arbitrary or it's following some rule ? I'm a bit confused.
