    After Rhaenyra's comments to Jace about how the Strongs are not their kin, she told him to look her in the eye and said, "Do you understand?" I interpreted it not as her being callous, but as her making it clear to Jace that he can't be saying these things in public. He may be mourning the Strongs, but in a setting like that, he is a Targaryan/Velaryon only and he needs to be very careful about what he says and does.

      It wasn't surprising to me, because of the following:
      1. Rhaenyra respects Laenor and isn't evil enough to slaughter hm.
      2. Laenor has been said to be a skilled swordsman.
      Hence, once I saw the hired assassin draw a sword rather than attempt to kill Laenor sneakily, such as with poison, I understood what would happen and that Laenor must have conspired with Rhaenyra beforehand.
      My conclusion was confirmed when the body that is presumed to be Laenor was revealed to be burned beyond recognition, which is very convenient. My conclusion was further confirmed once the person presented as the assassin was shown escaping via a boat _but with his face being concealed via a hood and via camera direction that avoided his face up_ until the moment that he reveals his face himself.

    I think Allicent has jealousy towards Rhaenyra for living a life where she could do whatever she please. Not just resentment for lies that she told Allicent and swore on her mother’s death. I think it’s so much more than that. Since day one, she’s been told what to do and expected to uphold a very difficult task by her father to become Queen and sire an heir for Viserys and to make sure that heir is the one that sits on the throne. She’s jealous because no matter what Rhaenyra will always be Viserys soft spot and will choose her side of Allicent’s. I’m sure deep down Allicent wanted a life different than what she has now. Where she can do as she pleases. Even though she’s Queen, she’s still limited to what she can do. But because of her duty as Queen, being a mother and her father’s expectations of her, she’ll always try to take Rhaenyra down for what transpired.

I don't think Aegon was thinking that strategically: he just had nothing else to say, but it worked brilliantly nonetheless. The sitting dragons are more likely to be Dreamfyre and Sunfyre (he is descirbed to be gold and the left dragon is very clearly more yellowish than olive green). Laenor is the first dragonrider I can think of to abandon their dragon. What if because of the loss of Laenor, Seasmoke becomes wild and becomes Grey Ghost? Then Laenor comes back as a grizzled badass during the Dance and reclaims his dragon. Don't think its gonna happen, but that'd be cool as hell.

    • @danaglabeman6919
      @danaglabeman6919 Рік тому

      It would be fabulous but Addam, the guy who claims Seasmoke, is supposedly Laenor's bastard. (Though given Laenor's tendencies, most people think he's actually Corlys' son). Laenor can't come back as Addam in disguise (a popular new theory) since Addam has to be young enough for Laenor to theoretically be his father.
      I personally hope they'll switch the timeline to put the Battle of the Gullet before the dragonseeding, and it will be Laenor who is the "Tyroshi captain" who rescues little Viserys from the battle. He's trying to take him home but they're captured, and Laenor killed, by Lohar in the Stepstones, which is how Viserys ends up with him. During the dragon seeding, Seasmoke isn't supposed to be avaliable, but Addam bonds with him anyway. This doesn't surprise all the people who think Laenor's been dead for years, but it shocks Rhaenyra and Daemon, and there's a quick scene discussing that he must somehow be dead.
      Of course, they could just ignore the 1 rider until death rule, but... they already had a dragon keeper make that specific point in E6, so super awkward. Or they could just skip the whole "these are officially Laenor's bastards" thing and just make them Corlys's, which would fix the age issue with the Addam is Laenor in disguise theory, but IDK. If they do that, how do they explain Alyn? Laenor is 18 years older than Addam. Addam was just 15 when he claimed Seasmoke. I just don't see a way around it. The only way to fix this is to show Laenor dying somehow before dragonseed time, and why waste screen time when they could write his death into the main story?

    I wonder why they're playing up the emotional distance between Daemon and his daughters? It must be foreshadowing an upcoming plot point. When they were in Pentos, Rhaena says her father ignores her but no explanation or further elaboration is given and her mother just says that he is "trying."
    Then, the showrunners cut a scene that was filmed showing Daemon embracing his girls after he tells them of their mother's death, a time when a warm hug would be a very natural thing to do. Instead, in the final cut they are shown crying by themselves as he coldly stands there for a while, then walks away.
    Finally, at the funeral, the girls are shown sitting by themselves and while their grandmother and even Rhaenyra were concerned about them, their father keeps his distance. It's strange.
    I think some major parent/ child clash is being set up. In a departure from the book, could Rhaena defect to Team Green because she feels neglected?

    • @triplemoyagames4195

      Or perhaps, it setting up an arc. You must remember they are all in grief, they lost their mother and Daemon lost his wife. This combined with the fact his Children are the literal spitting image of their mother. The scene of them separated was them all in disbelief, and processing that their mother and wife was burned to death a few hours ago. Sometimes nothing needs to be said
      Also I doubt they're going to show every single interaction Daemon has with his daughters, Daemon could have been interacting with everyone else, but his daughters don't know those people hence why they'd be in a corner.

    • @absolutelyalice1754
      @absolutelyalice1754 Рік тому +1

      The girls are living breathing reminders of what he has lost. They look like their mother and each embody a part of her that shines through. Laena was a bold, spirited, thoughtful, and intelligent woman. She was both emotionally and politically astute. Baela got her boldness. Rhaena got her thoughtful and astute nature. Both got her beauty and Daemon has to see that and also know that these girls will not get to grow up with their mother. Could there be parent/child clashes? Possibly but from the subtext of the book, Nyra does care about the girls a lot. She gives Rhaena an egg from her own dragon that managed to hatch.

      The few scenes from Pentos seemed to exist only to establish what Daemon's life was like in Pentos. Essentially they showed us that Daemon is unhappy and his wife wants to go home. Why do we need to know that one of his kids feels ignored if it has no dramatic significance? I think they would have edited the remark out if it was unimportant.

She's like Trelawny in Harry Potter, where she mostly spouts gibberish but sometimes says something real in a trance? It could be a cool way to flesh out her character: in the book she's just Aegon's wife and his kids' mother, not much else. This episode was THE perfect set up for the rest of the season. Have to also point out that HOTD is absolutely body slamming ROP into the ground. This is what happens when you know how to strike a balance between incorporating new fans and pleasing hardcore/book fans. Unlike the writers of ROP.

    Great video, as usual, but am I mishearing you when you say Aegon? Like A-gon? In the show they pronounce like egg-on, which makes sense as Aegon V’s nickname is Egg.

    That “where is duty, where is sacrifice” scene…Olivia Cooke doing some Dinklage level lifting there. The agony, the passion! That’s a Emmy nomination scene. “We Know Father. Everyone Knows”. That’s Aegon’s “the Prince will remember that little Lord” moment. Aemond taming Vhagar & holding his own in a 1v4 makes him the real chad in my eyes. Only wholesome moment, our Prince resting his head on his mom’s shoulder to let her know she can depend on him. Last but not least, GOATTO Hightower with the coldest win or you die reference, “we play an ugly game”...and I’m the meme of Homer Simpson decked out in green onsies, sitting on green cushions, wearing a Hightower snapback, holding a Go Greens flag with a Alicent poster on the wall😂. Meanwhile checking in on Blacks: “What is honor compared to a woman’s uncle”-Maester Aemon 😳
