Did anyone else catch the #prophecy that was whispered by Helaena Targaryen (bug loving girl) at the dinner table? Just before she stands to give her toast she whispers "BEWARE THE BEAST BENEATH THE BOARDS"🤔 She already predicted someone losing his eye (Aemond) when she said to her bugs "he will have to close an eye"... l wonder what the new prophecy means... anyone got a clue?
The best part was Damon being the one who picked up the crown for his brother and the king was expecting Otto

The scene when Viserys enters the throne room is so powerful, You could just see how relieved Rhaneyra was. Also Daemon helping his brother felt so good to watch, Viserys wasn't accepting help from anyone but when he saw it was Daemon he allowed it. It was a good You Dropped this King moment.
Viserys: " I'm not dead yet you assholes. Go fuck another fish Otto hightower. " - it was a scene from peacemaker I edited it a bit
He went through all that pain for the love of his daughter

Turns out him dropping the crown was improvised, they killed it!
The symbolism when Viserys is sitting at the dinner table with his masked and blind side turned to Alicent, while his only eye is looking at Rhaenyra is amazing.
Viserys does not see what Otto and Alicent are truly doing, both literally and figuratively.
But do you think Alicent change a bit and was warm towards Rhaenyra....for her husband's sake?

@@mpicc4808 She definitely did at first, until she misunderstood what Viserys said to her regarding the prophecy of the prince who was promised. Since she thinks he meant their Aegon, she will surely turn away from Rhaenerya going forward.
@@katreuth absolutely agree. alicent has so many parallels to macbeth here. she hears the prophecy and it spurs her own ambition to take action, but ultimately only leads to tragedy.

I feel badly for both women. I loved the short lived truce when Alicent held Rhaenyra's hand.
Paddy Considine's acting through out this season is phenomenal. Viserys' enter to throne room was so hard to watch, i just wanted the old king to smile, be happy with his family. The second i thought everything will be okay for a while, Alicent misunderstood the king's dying words. Such a shame...
I think Alicent chose to misunderstand to further her and Otto’s plot to usurp Rhaenyra.
It was top tier acting but not unexpected. Paddy is a beast. The whole cast is top tier
@@jaymierae9890 True, we often hear/believe what we want to, much like how Viserys was purposely ignorant. I love that Viserys got to die happy, believing that he was able to mend his family. It is a fitting end for his personality.
They had him drugged up for years she'd Im sure heard drug induced rants this one she picked out what she wanted ,this happening or not wouldn't have made a difference this was Alicent and Ottos goal from the start.

One of the best parts of the dinner, imo, was the contrast between how well behaved rhenyra and daemon's children are compared with how classless and immature alicent's children behave....

@@blaubeer8039 i genuinely think luke was smiling in good jest, rather than outright laughing. he sees aemond, empowered and thriving despite his eye, and thinks it clearly hasn't affected him so badly, ignorant to the trauma and desire for vengeance it has caused him.

They should’ve applied that to laena. When she died it was like “meh”. She had like 10 min screen time total. Viserys death hit hard
Viserys nearly climbing to the throne just to show his absolute support for his daughter and her son’s claim to Driftmark, that was wholesome! This scene broke my heart but he’s such a good dad showing up for his daughter 😭 And then when Viserys stood up to take Vaemond’s tongue, the “don’t worry brother I got this” and head slicing were 🤌🏻
Daemon has always loved his brother and I'm glad they made this scene. Phenomenal casting throughout the season. The strength of Matt Smith’s acting without words, coupled with good writing to create the scene = brilliant. Daemon was portrayed as tender and loving, and yet fierce and dangerous. Wonderful character arc building in this episode. "My Love......" 😭💔😭 Poor Viserys!! His life was truly a tragic one and he loved his first wife and daughter to the very end. Paddy Considine put so much heart into Viserys and truly made us care about him.....well done!! 👏👏👏

Yes!!! I don't think Aegon was cast well. The other brother gave me chills though, and I assume he is supposed to.
But yes, Aemond seems too old for that role. He was still better cast than Aegon, in my opinion.
Daemon and Aemond are very much mirror images of each other. Both morally grey, both charismatic, both deftly skilled at combat. Excited to see their duality/rivalry.

To get technical, Rhaenyra didn't swear to Alicent that her maidenhood was intact, she swore that Daemon hadn't taken it, which was the truth. It was taken that night, but it wasn't Daemon, and it's not what she swore. The swore implied Daemon hadn't taken her maidenhood.
actually her exact words were "daemon never touch me" and "i didnt do anything" and "i was only a spectator". but more important leaving out the fact that she is not a maiden and gaslighting alicent by saying "to question my virtue is an act of treason" and had sex with criston is all falls under the umbrella of lying by omission. Daemon's participation is irrelevant because his virtue is not being questioned. Rhaenyra's is. its being intentionally misleading to imply that she is a virgin by saying daemon never touched her and she knows this.

If their families got along better I could see Daemon taking Aemond as a his ward seeing as how he is also the 2nd child. They would be agents of chaos for sure.

Daemon is loyal to his family. He really should have been the hand of the king. He was perfect for that role
He would have killed Otto and Alicent and be done with all this bother.
One thing I noticed was when Daemon silences Vaemond. Otto, who only moments ago, had complete control of the Kingdom and everyone in the Throne Room, Orders Daemon disarmed. The guards only half heartedly even try. It shows the divide over the houses goes deep in the Red Keep.
Vaemond fucked around and found out real quick. Always love seeing Daemon being an absolute menace.
My guy this is only the beta version of Daemon up to up until now. He's been doing child's Play just wait until the dance of the Dragon actually kicks off.

Daemon is insanely calm when killing. He never gets too upset or angry. He’s always calculating & then attacks. When he stood in front of Aemon and sighed; Popeye knew to get his one last eye out of there 🤣🤣 The kids are super shady too! I love it. From teasing Jace for being a virgin to Jace dancing with Aegon’s wife! Luke laughing & the “strong boys” toast! What a family feast 😅

Yes he has like 1% some kind of father emotions but 99% is still wants world to remember him as a great king in all points of view including "family" .

I don't know if it means something or the creators meant to show it like that. But the side of Viserys face that is towards the greens is blind and hollowed out, meaning he is or chooses to be blind to their intent while the side towards the blacks is eyed and human like. It shows how the green wants him to be gone and even though he is alive are treating him like a symbol, like the golden mask that side of his face covers. They can't even wait for the king to die to act in his place. While even though Rhaenyra wants to be queen, she never wants her father to die to sit on the throne.

Well yeah, she's at a disadvantage until her sons, and their dragons, are older. She doesn't actually care about her father, the visit was to secure her second sons unlawful claim. If she was smart, she could have remained by his side for his last days. That's about as far as her love for her father goes.
The symbolism behind Viserys' face is better interpreted by how he favors his first born child, giving her everything. While being blind towards his sons and second daughter, leaving them with nothing but false promises and death.

They COULD have been married but Alicent was being a byytch. She offered Jace to Helaena and Alicent denied it. Now she’s unhappy and married to her psychopath brother.
I like Rhanyera but it bugs me that she doesn’t show up as much for her father as he does for her… she should have stayed in his last hours or days of him being alive even just to comfort him and be by his side he loves her to death even to get up with the last of life he had left to defend her… so irritating but other than that amazing episode!!!

She should have stayed with him in his last hours. Then, Alicent wouldn't have cause to deliberately mistake or take out of context his last words on the succesion.
Though honestly he's been dying for so long, theres no way she could have known he would die right then. And she was just going to get her kids to safety and away from messing up the new peace before coming right back.
i think thats part of the tragedy. in the end everything was looking up for the older generation. Daemon and Otto had backed off from eachother, Rhaenyra and Alicent were on the path to setting things right and Viserys could live what little time he had left in peace. but then the children, who had been raised to hate eachother, couldn't put aside there own differences. thus just as how Rhaenyra and Alicent raised their children to continue the blacks vs greens conflict, the children drew them back into it themselves. keep in mind the main reason Rhaenyra left for Dragonstone was because of the constant fighting between the black and green princes. and just a sidenote all i can say is that the green princes are just assholes, sure Jace and Luke aren't perfect, but during the dinner Jace restrains himself, even when Aegon is taunting him. plus the only thing Luke does is laught at a memory of an old joke, which while stupid was nothing compared to Aegon and Aemond. also i like how it once again shows Jace's personality, that he can hold back while Aegon is humiliating him ,but the moment Aemond says something that also attacks his brothers, he loses it. sure it was also to do with his own anger, but Jace ultimately puts his family above all else. kinda ironic given that the trueborn Aegon is a massive dickhead and the bastard Jace seems to be a decent guy

The scene with Daemon and Viserys was so heartwarming and beautiful. I almost had tears in my eyes. Just two brothers who love and support each other. I also celebrated the scene where Daemon stood up for his stepchildren and Rhaenerya and cuts off the head of Vaemond (hope it is right, don't remember his name) "he can keep his tounge" 😅😅😅 I was laughing so hard but it was so sad when Viserys saw Aemma in the Nightlands 😞 May he rest in peace 😞🫡
what an absolute emotional banger of an episode. Everyone's said it, but I'll say it again - Paddy Considine deserves all the gd emmys, and hotd so far is every bit as quality as early GoT in my book... and arguably even better.

Daemon who did not need any help from his brother, helps him to ascend the iron throne one final time. Beautiful writing.
Daemon’s only need is to feel needed by Viserys and Rhaenyra. Every time the tell they want him or need him, he abides. He’s a man who needs to feel necessary to the two people he loved the most.
Just give Paddy Considine the emmy right now! He was outstanding in this episode!.
They should mail it to him now and tell him to have a speech ready.
It’s also interesting symbolism that as viserys has his mask off, the half of his face that is rotting is also the same side of the dinner table where the Hightower’s and his sons now sit.
The dinner scene is a masterclass of melancholy in simplicity. Viserys watching the kids in a last dance before the Dance. Last fleeting moment of bliss. For something so uneventfully peaceful, the passing was one of the most foreboding & viscerally filmed deaths I've seen. In the book Viserys also doses off to the great beyond in his bed, after telling stories to grandkids. The man who was most dissimilar to Aegon the Conqueror in life ends up being most similar to the Conqueror in death.
Enough jokes. Now the serious stuff. "You're no son of mine" - Alicent getting crossbowed in the loo on mother's day confirmed. "Viserys wearing gold dragon instead of red” - Viserys secret Green Chad confirmed. Next episode's titled The Green Council😱!! The seizure😱!! Cue Hoes Mad music😤!! Our religion, tradition & patriarchy upholder Queen Mother & our redpilled King will make Westeros great again🙃/s.
I love how Rhaenyra's boys stop at once when Daemon steps in. I wonder if he has been like a father to them, he is a solitary and distant person. I doesn't seem that he has trained them, though...

One thing that wasn’t mentioned was Aemond not noticing the pig being brought as it was on his left side. Luke begins to laugh as he notices this, and then Aemond gets furious at dinner.

Why undercut Viserys big moment to protect his family and by extension the realm and then subvert expectations to make him the sole cause of it. Don’t even get me started on that fact that Alicent will start this even though Viserys said, “you asked me earlier if it was true” which she most certainly did not……sigh.
@@walkerbutler2984 I think Alicent was just waiting for the green light to feel totally justified in her family's pursuite of the crown. Hightowers would have done it anyway, but now the Queen can join with her consciousness clean.
At the end, Viserys is continuing the conversation Rhaenyra started the night before. So, he thinks he is talking to her not Alicent. He thinks she is the prince that was promised and he is sorry for not helping her more. The night before she said the burden was too heavy and that is why he is apologizing...just the wrong night and to the wrong person. It is clear he is talking deliriously if anyone else was listening, talking abut the cold and the north, etc. Alicent just picks what she wants to hear and decides that is what he means. It's frustrating to think that she could listen to someone close to death, so drugged up, saying random shit and she be like "oh he wants our son to take the throne and to fight Rhaenyra for it, yeah that is what he is def saying".
the actress Olivia Cooke said that alicent genuinely believed that she had the right interpretation of what Viserys was saying. Alicent asks Viserys to clarify several times who he is talking about. she says "our son?" and then says "prince aegon?" and then says "i dont understand viserys". she gave him plenty of chances to clarify what he means. she's not being malicious. shes too tired of the fight with rhaenyra she just wants to put it to rest. she even says that alicent might be a bit pissed off at Viserys that after she buried the hatchet with rhaenyra hes seemingly asking her to start the fight back up again and fight for aegon. Here's what olivia has to say about it:
Olivia Cooke: "We spoke a lot about this. There was a massive amount of relief when Alicent told Rhaenyra, “You will make a great queen.” She’s so over the fighting and having this ball of bitterness and anxiety in her stomach:* "Just let it go, Rhaenyra is the heir, this is fine."* When Viserys says that, I genuinely think she thinks he’s talking about Aegon, her son. And I think she’s furious. She’s like, “After all that?” But Viserys is on his deathbed; that’s what he requested, and so she must follow it through. Whether that’s unconscious wishful thinking, I don’t know, but that’s how I played it.
I've never cried watching a show before but seeing viserys got me man. And him going through all that for rhae.. man..
Him showing his kingly authority for one last time and going through such physical struggle for his little girl, and then Deamon being at his brother's side as he always wanted, putting the crown on his head, after all the good and bad times those three went through together... I can't remember crying so hard over fiction, the feels were too real. Kudos to all the people involved in creating this art.
Am I the only one who had a feeling King Viserys thought it was Rhaenyra he was talking to at the end of the episode instead of Alicent? Makes sense to me why he said it has to be you, then of course Alicent interpreted it as her or their son Aegon

This episode got me in tears! It was done beautifully! The best episode!! My favorite scene was definitely when Deamon helped his brother to his seat and put the crown on him, and at that moment was all brotherly love and that Deamon never wanted the crown but wanted to help his brother! 😢
I feel so bad for Rhaenyra boys ....everybody just staring ,and muttering ar them wherever they go. That decision to be with harwin strong for 10 yrs, and have three kids with him has so much far reaching consequences. I wonder if she even realizes what was going to happen.
She knew. She even made a deal with Laenor. Laenor agreed to be their dad.
Let's just say that they were a modern family stuck in another time.
Laenor tried, but not hard enough, Rhaenyra was willing to bear his child. Some gays just can't do it with a woman. If he had just given her at least 1, eldest, heir to the throne, no one cares about the rest. Also, the realm expects Rhaenyra to produce an heir within the year after marriage, or the rumors about Laenor will just escalate, and the testimonies that she was seen with his Uncle in a brothel will resurface again. I think the risky business with Ser Strong wasn't really just about affair, or her goofing around, at least at first. And as far as I know, for 10 years they stayed in King's Landing, they didn't go anywhere, and I never saw any other Velaryon-looking dude there to at least redeem the situation.
Now the kids suffer the consequences.
Ps. Perhaps, Rhaenyra wasn't aware of " The seed is strong. ", particularly on black-haired clans. She thought that the kid's hair will be the same as hers.

How interesting that Viserys gets considerably worse once Otto returns... I know Rhae and Daemon accuse them of drugging him into cluelessness, but I think it is far more than that on Otto's part. I do not believe Alicent had a role in that part. The entirety of the petition scene is best in the series so far. Also, I still love Halaena.
I think it was implied a few episodes ago that once the Hightower meister was removed, Viserys got better, but once Otto came back, he brought his own meister back

When Helena talks to herself she foreshadows things like last episode “ he closes his eye to fly” or something and this episode she something about “ beware of the beast under the floor” I’m pretty sure referring to The characters blood and cheese.
Notice how sensitive she is to emotion? It’s like it triggers visions.
I found it interesting how Aegon was the only Green unbothered by Daemond savagely slicing a man’s head in half. Like, even Aemond took a step back like, “Dammmmn”
Paddy did such a good job with viserys. Every time we got a scene of him this episode I felt myself tearing up. Even in his weakest days he loved his daughter so much and brought himself to sit the throne one more time for her. And then in his last moments he thought of his daughter and his first wife. Such a heart breaking character .

I'm excited to see where this relationship you hinted at between Daemon and Aemond is headed. I like both of their characters, even though you can tell they're both questionable at best. The actor who currently plays Aemond looks perfect for the role.

I became teary-eyed as King Vicerys struggled to walk to his throne; I was overcome with a mixture of sadness for his condition and admiration for his resilience. However, a few moments later I became disappointed in him when he threatened to cut off Vaemond's tongue for speaking the truth.
I was dissapointed he was going to go for his tongue instead of his head or at least freedom. Vaemond called the Princess and the Heir to the Iron Throne a whore on the eyes of the whole court and disrespected his King. Such a treason requires the highest of punishments (speaking from the angle of this universe and by their laws).

FYI #14:01 Rhaenyra never lied to Alicent. She swore on her mother's memory that she did not sleep with Daemon. Alicent never asked if her maidenhead was intact or if she slept with anyone else (such as Criston Cole) so Rhaenyra never volunteered that information.

Man, that walking to the throne scene was so powerful. Ironically, the weaker (physically) Visaerys because, the stronger his decision making, resolve and sense of authority became. During that scene, I didn’t feel like I was watching the Visaerys that we were used to earlier in the season. I felt like we were watching THE KING defend his daughter and make the most powerful effort to keep the kingdom knitted together. I teared up during that walk to the throne. RIP V. One of my favorite characters in the GOT universe.

When you watch that dinner scene, you realize that this was all that Viserys wanted, his family all together, loving each other. Then Aegon and Aemond had to go and fork it up.

All praise to Paddy Considine who was born to play this role! My fav character is Daemon since the very beginning. He is kinda chaotic personality but he is always loyal to his dynasty esp to his brother. None of Visrys's idiot-sons came up to help him out while he was doddering in agony to the the throne, It was Daemon who held his shoulder and put the crown on his brother's head. I loved that scene so much.

When I watched the episode first, the final scene with Alicent hearing the story never really sat right with me and was the only thing in the whole episode I didn't like initially. But afterwards when I thought about it... I get why the writers did it. Alicent deep down wants her own son on the throne. So much so that she'll cling to the ramblings of an old dying guy and claim its some sane royal decree or whatever. I bet if Viserys said something like "Send Aegon to the Stepstones alone. He should learn how to fight a battle," she'd ignore it. She is just using her own selfishness as an excuse to make it seem like she is doing the right thing. So on that note this is the second straight episode I feel was a 10/10. They did it brilliantly.
The cousins getting married might be the only kids happy with their marriages lol

Did you watch the episode? How was it informal if he got the ending wrong? Rhaenyra said she was stay behind for a few days to spend time with her Father and Alicent. Rhaenyra said she would fly home solo. This review breakdown said Rhaenyra left kingslanding unaware her father died. HAHA Yes, shes unaware her dad died but she never left!! The Hightower's have Rhaenyra all alone, they will try and kill her now. They just locked her in her room solo in the preview.
