I’m so glad they could be helpful for you! My newer videos are definitely better than my older stuff I will say, but regardless I have lots of Subie videos!
Had the 21 crosstrek sport and traded it for the 23 forester wilderness 2 weeks ago and pretty impressed so far. Not something you see everyday in Houston but get some looks and smack talk from the jeep guys.
Both are very nice vehicles but the outback definitely drives nicer overall. I will say it would be a tougher choice if the Forrester had a turbo. Outback also looks better IMO.
I'm loving both you reviewed. You really can't go wrong. I got a subaru after getting my wife one. I work for the railroad in Newark NJ. All weather in every season is a must for us. Her 2012 subaru forester in manual transmission is still doing great. I have a 2019 forester and same story. Love them both and both have saved our asses over and over in terrible conditions.
I own both the 2022 Outback Wilderness, and a 2024 Forester Wilderness. Power....ya can't beat the Outback, but ya gotta really put your foot into it before the turbo kicks in and then it really goes. I can't stand the large touch screen functions. You have to take your eyes off the road every time you want to do anything, I can't stand it, easy to hit the wrong function, I give it a poor rating for user friendly, easy to use, safe driving controls. On the other hand, the Forester has more traditional controls, easy to use while still keeping your eyes on the road, heated seat controls down where they're supposed to be, I like it so much better. Fuel economy, I'm a conservative driver and best I can get on the hwy is 23 mpg on a flat hwy with no head wind. Forester, I haven't had it long at all and I've already seen 27 plus on the hwy. Headlights on both are extremely bright, all traffic coming towards you flash their headlights because they think your high beams are on......really annoying, wish the headlights weren't so bright. Long story short, overall I like the Forester better.
I’m glad to read this. I just got the FW this year. And I didn’t know the OBE came with a turbo until watching this video. However, I test drove an Outback touring XT, just to see if I loved the turbo. And I didn’t like the car feeling, con the cockpit. My previous vehicle was a 2012 Forester touring, so I didn’t like losing that little bit of headroom
I have that same 2023 FW in the Geyser Blue. So far, I absolutely love it. My wife has a 2021 Outback Limited. We are very pleased with both having now owned a total of 5 Subarus.
The touch screen is an accident waiting to happen. Crazy to put climate controls and other functions used a lot in a multi layer set up on the screen. I drive an out back and my wife a x trek sport. The sport is much nicer from the standpoint of having knobs and switches vs touch screen
I own the 22’ Forester Wilderness. Previously owed a 06’ and 11’ Forester. I’m partial to the Forester but wish they would have offered the turbo engine as an option on the Forester Wilderness. . Overall, the Wilderness is the best trim they have offered to date.
I've been driving a Forester since 2019. I'm changing vehicles in the coming months and I think this time I'll opt for the Outback. Changing to a 2023 model brings nothing significantly new aesthetically and I would feel like I was driving my old car. The Outback model is different both externally and internally. The space available when the seats are lowered is also a little larger than in the Forester. I considered the turbo engine option but quickly changed my mind when I saw the noticeable difference in price here in Canada. What's more, you have to add 15% more taxes to the price... so I will continue to settle for the regular engine which, by the way, does the job very well. Thanks for your work.
It sounds like you’re making the best decision for your situation! I’ve heard vehicle taxes are a big percent in Canada, ouch lol. 🤕 Thanks for watching and the kind words! 🙂
I like them both but I've always been attracted more to the boxy looks of the Forester although i wish there was still an XT model available. It's good that i can't afford either so that makes it easy for me😅
I picked up that exactly Forester today and omg the moonroof and huge windows the visibility is amazing. The ride quality is comparable to my 70k BMW X3 M40i. The power was fine on an hour drive on the highway here in jersey between some traffic and passing people no problem at all. The lane centering with cruise control was terrific. Definitely glad I went with the Forester…… I’m 48 so time to break out the power ballad CD’s !!!!
That’s awesome, lol. I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Sometimes the lane keep assist can over correct and kick you out of the lane or pull to one side, so be cautious of that. 😬 But overall the Forester is such a great vehicle!
I just got rid of my POS '21 Outback - it was loaded to the gills but after multiple electrical issues (fried FIVE circuits), spent THREE WEEKS at the dealer because the sound system blew - the 16 speaker Harman Kardon and less than two weeks later, it stranded me 615 miles from home because yet another circuit blew draining the battery - twice! ALL of this at less than 12k miles on the car!! I finally threw in the towel once I made it back home - traded it for a '23 Forester Wilderness. So much better than the Outback - hardly any electronics - handles much better - no turbo but it has better pickup than my turbo had in the outback. Can't wait to take it on a trip.
Went from a Crosstrek to an Outback wilderness. Definitely loving the difference the turbo makes. Wish they brought back the turbo for the Forester though. Even this engine in a lighter Forester would be sick !!
I went from the 19 forester sport to the forester wilderness to a 23 outback wilderness. The outback is by far better. If you need to tow and or want a more exciting ride go with the outback. You won’t have any regrets. The touch screen isn’t terrible. Slight lags are frustrating at times . Surprisingly I’m getting a little better average mpg with the obw than the fw. 23.5 mpg over 5k miles in obw. 22.3 over 8k in FW. Overall it’s pretty crappy but it by far surpasses a rav4 or Honda in capabilities.
It sounds like you’ve tried them all and can settle your mind knowing your OBW is the best! I’m of course biased because I own one. 😉 I am surprised at the MPG difference you’ve experienced!
I really like both vehicles. The outback has the nice length and size, the Forester has the really awesome headroom. You can tell for sure when you sit in it that the roof sits much higher
OBW wins hands down on every aspect. I come from a Forester and it was night and day going to the OBW. More power which translate in easier off-roading, carrying more stuff with ease, driving confort is much better and more practical cargo space even if they are almost the same.
I have had both the 2022 Outback Wilderness and the 2023 Outback Wilderness. It is hands down my favorite vehicle that I have owned. I managed a road trip from Dallas to Memphis and was able to get 32 MPG. Good fuel mileage is possible, one just has to watch the RPMs and try not to drive it like you stole it. In hills as well as stop and go traffic is where it will start drinking fuel. All in all, it is one of the most over all capable vehicles that I have owned. It will allow me to go on forest trails as well as pick up groceries and not need to sell a kidney to purchase tires.
It’s always a plus when you can drive an all around capable vehicle that you enjoy AND you didn’t meed need to sell an organ for the opportunity! Glad you’re enjoying it and also getting good MPG! Why did you switch from a 22 to a 23? Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I was driving to the gym and living my best life, when someone pullout out of a shopping center and t-boned me, causing my beloved OBW to flip and land upside down (I think the driver hit the gas instead of the brake). Good news is that my 2023 looks just like my 2022, plus I have the improved infotainment upgrade. I do miss the alloy pedals, though.
Glad it’s a look a like and hoping you were without injury? I’m sure that wasn’t at all what you were expecting to happen on a typical drive to the gym! 😲
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I managed to walk away from it with just a concussion. People were amazed that I was able to crawl out of the car and walk. Subarus are tanks. Not one time while my car was flipping was I worried about my safety. I knew that the OBW would do what it was designed to do. I will admit that I was pissed off as I held onto the steering wheel and seeing the world go upside down...then right side up...then upside down...
I am supposed to get my 2023 FW in autumn green next week. This will be my first Subaru. It was a hard choice OW vs FW. I like FW being shorter and not so wagon looking but the entertainment system was a big factor. I did not want to wait for 2024 FW as I feel they will put the touch only screen in it like all other models. So, next week I’ll join the Subi Club and hopefully be a lifetime member.
I test drove the 2024 Forester and the Outback both in Wilderness. I purchased the Forester due to the visibility, seating position, ride experience. The Outback seats were better and if I was using this for long trips the Outback would have been my choice. Babying it on the first 1,000 miles and currently average 29.1 mpg. I didn’t expect that but happy. Drives great.
I'm in the market for a vehicle that has off-road capabilities and since fourrunners and tacomas are so expensive, I have been looking at Subaru. The FW has caught my attention so I am going to check some out next week. It'll be so nice to finally be able to hit the trails and go explore!!!
I love my Outback Wilderness! Bought a 2023 last December. On unplowed dirt roads in the winter it’s the best haven’t gotten stuck yet 😂 this is my 6th Outback. The phone app is the best on early winter mornings and could not live without satellite radio!
I have to say I went from a 2008 wrx 455 horsepower to a 2022 forester wilderness and I couldn’t be happier!!! I have a baby now and two husky dogs donut fits my life style perfectly . I love the look of the forester not the fastest but fun and Fermat yo fine especially with sports mode.
Glad you’re enjoying your FW! A much different experience than your built WRX. 🤪 Having a change every once in a while in vehicle style like that can be nice, especially when it makes life easier! Thanks for watching’ 🙂
Agree! If you’re over 6’2” or have a particularly long torso, the Forester just fits better. Also, approach and departure are much better. A turbo would be awesome.
Just bought the (2024) forester wilderness. Test drove both and the difference in the turbo didn’t justify the price and reliability over the naturally aspirated engine. The forester has plenty of gumption. Sport sharp makes it even more snappy. The overall aesthetic of the forester is more appealing to me as well. I like them boxy. Also the new infotainment center in the 2024 forester is awesome. 10/10 would buy again. I was also able to get a large discount on the forester. Not so much on the Outback which was strange because they had more of them in stock. Also if you’re tall, there’s plenty of room in the forester. I’m all torso and still had plenty of head room.
@@dhrtiwalter8670 Mine came with optional package 22. This includes Subaru STARLINK, Harman Kardon sound system and the power rear gate. MSRP was $38,115. My purchase price was $35,000 even. So $3,115 off msrp.
I drive a wingless 2020 STI and looking to get another Subaru for the family. I’m gravitating towards the OB Wilderness, as it seems to be the best-equipped Subaru overall. It’s never gonna match an STI, but it should be close enough.
Outback Wilderness also comes with harman kardon, heated seats, heated steering wheel, at least on my 2025, I don't play too much with screen while driving and having downloaded music and google maps via wireless Android auto, I have all I need, absolutely love turbo and camping space at the back😊
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Those features didn’t come out until I believe 2024 for the U.S. market. I wish mine had the speakers and heated wheel lol.
I've had my 22 FW for awhile now, no problems, one of the best riding cars I've ever owned. I've added hood struts, some more cladding and sport stripes, auto start stop eliminator. Only complaint is too many buttons and a little hard to set various settings.
I had a loaner forester wilderness while waiting to take possession of my OBW. Can’t go wrong with either imho. Personally, I prefer the outback because it’s a wagon lol
Thanks for the great review! I'm going to go the opposite direction...We currently have an Outback but are going to opt for the Forester Wilderness. A little bit shorter and taller and don't need the extra power of the Turbo Outback as we have a pick up truck for that. This is my 7th Subaru (4th Outback wagon, Brat 1st, Justy, Impreza wagon and RARE 2007 Outback Sedan!) and to be honest, I'm getting a little tired of the same car. I have essentially FLOGGED all my Subaru's with Western NY winters, U.P Michigan trails and winters and countless cross country trips. I'm glad Subaru came out with the Wilderness as I really wanted something different!
That’s exciting! I would agree you need the change, that’s a lot of Outback’s, lol. The FW is a fantastic vehicle and I’ve enjoyed them each time I’ve driven one.
Ha, I live in Twin as well, and I'm a PA so I may have referred patients your way! I'm really leaning toward the Forester, but I wanna see what they do with the 24 model year. Ideally I'd like to see the turbo engine, BUT without sacrificing gas mileage. Good to see your mileage being in the same location. Elevation plays a big role in what you get. I've gotten over 40 on my Accord in Colorado before. I also hope they keep the physical buttons, at least for the climate controls. I don't want to have to be sifting through menus on a touch screen when I'm trying to adjust the temp on the highway!
That’s awesome man, thanks for sharing that. I sure hope you’re right about the new Forester, sales actually dropped a lot for that model in 2022 over previous years. I think it was 114k units vs. 155k the year before. A refresh is likely needed to spark interest, and I hope Subaru is listening to us about the turbo and buttons! 🙂
I went with the forester wilderness because of the touch screen and physical dial controls for the climate control. I'm not a fan of everything going touch screen only, I think it takes focus away from the road and what you're supposed to do when you're driving, which is pay attention to driving and everything around you. The "lack" of power isn't an issue for me, i'm not racing anyone on the road and I've never had an issue reaching highway speeds when merging or climbing a hill. I also prefer the more headroom on the inside (cousin has a 24 outback touring) as i'm 6'4". Moonroof is what it is, would have preferred to get it without one if I could but tis what tis... All said, so far i've put the Malone Aero crossbars on it, and rokblokz mudflaps and I'll probably bump up the tire size on them when the stock tires wear out.
I am using my Subaru for a Overlander. The Forester payload capacity is 147lbs more than the Outback, so Outback is out of the question. When I start adding the weight for everything I want to carry….passengers, roof rack, equipment, etc. definitely going to need that extra 147 pounds. So in that area the Forester performs better. Also with the payload I am carrying concerned that Turbo which runs the engine and oil much hotter anyway is a big concern over time.
I own the Subaru forester wilderness. I was one of the first to receive mine as I had preordered it before they even came out. I absolutely LOVE it. I traded in my forester sport for the wilderness because of the towing capacity. It’s a great vehicle. They are both great vehicles in their own right. I’m just not a huge fan of turbo charged engines personally plus I appreciate the all around fabulous visibility that the forester offers.
That’s awesome! I hope your FW has been holding up well. I recently bought a 2023 Miata I had ordered and now my Outback Wilderness rarely gets driven, lol. 🙂 🥲
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Absolutely holding up excellent. I live off the beaten path on a farm in VA and it is a necessity. I am and have always been a Subie fan. So far other than routine maintenance she's been great to me :)
Same here .. I have a '23 OBW on order, but if that turbo was offered in the Forester that's probably what I would've selected. Thanks for sharing, AA!
I've got a 2023 Outback XT Premium, comes with the nice HK speaker system, sounds great. Note on this one though - only one x-mode mode, not two that the wilderness has.
That sounds really nice! Are you in CA? Under most conditions I doubt stage 2 X-mode is necessary, unless doing actual off roading. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I can't handle that 11 inch infotainment screen with everything integrated in it. I much prefer buttons like my 2022 FW has. But as you stated, that big screen is coming 😩
Drove both the power of the forester after 50 miles an hour really bogs down. The view is better in the forester. Both have nice rides . In the end I went for the outback cause the power and didn't feel as top heavy. Other small reasons but that's just my personal opinion either one is a good choice.
I heard you mentioned that you had two Tacoma‘s before going to an outback and the cross track. Do you regret giving up your pick up truck for a wagon? I have a Tacoma and I test driven the Forrester in the outback and I really like them But I’m considering giving up my Tacoma for a Forrester wilderness I’m really impressed with the vehicle from the way I drive handles house. Good ground clearance.
I definitely miss both my Tacomas. A 2013 regular cab 5 speed and a 2017 access cab 5 speed. But no, I don’t regret it! Subaru offers more for the value and I didn’t actually use the truck’s capacity more than a couple times a year. If you’re going from a Tacoma I would recommend a Wilderness trim level, just to give you that extra offroadiness that might make the transition easier! 😉
I love mi OBW. Had the lower oil pan leak at 3000 miles aprox, apparently it’s a known issue with the turbos. Dealer fixed it and got a Outback base model as a loaner while it was being repaired…what a dog lol. Love the turbo! I like the FW too. Can’t go wrong with any!
Sorry to hear that yours was influenced by the leak. I’m sure driving the base brought even more enjoyment upon the OBW return! And true, they’re all good. And sometimes they have issues, but few and far between thankfully!🙂
They’re both good I chose the Forrester because of the height your absolutely right when I got looking at it, they both had the same cubic feet. You lose some height but you grab length or you lose the length grab height me and my husband are cyclist will put two bikes on top of each other inside the cab with the seats down, it was hard to do that with the outback good video. My husband liked my Forrester wilderness so much he went out and bought him a forester sport lol he liked the Harmon kardon .
I've been loving my OBW in that Geyser Blue! Picked it up a month ago, but I'm currently on a long visit in Southern California (no, I didn't drive there) and I'm missing it sooooo much 😔. But I have UA-cam videos (like yours) in a playlist and kinda just run it in the background 😊
That’s a great question, I would speculate only 1 size bigger. But search that question in a forester forum and you’ll quickly find the exact information you’re looking for! 🙂
I'm going to go with the Forester Wilderness. I know some dis the non-turbo but this one of the reason I went with it. I've had quite a few turbo cars in the past and I had to replace them once the warranty ran out. (My wife drives a twin turbo F-150 EcoBoost, so far so good) another reason is it doesn't look like a station wagon, sits up a bit more and of course less expensive and even insurance is less. Sooooo, do I go for the 2023 or hold off a bit to see what the 2024 brings? 🤔
That’s a good question!? I haven’t heard when the new generation will come out. But getting a later/refreshed version of a long standing generation means reliability of the platform should be good as little kinks have been worked out! But also, being a new generation owner is also fun. 🤔🤷♂️
I'm at least waiting to see what changes are made to the 24. The expectation from what I've read is a new generation, given that Subaru typically goes 5 years between generations, and 19 was the last change for the Forester. If I don't care for the changes, or if it's not enough to make a difference, I'll try to get a 23 for a discount! (I know, good luck with that, lol)
Probably only slightly. The Forester had a 3” short wheelbase and slightly better approach/departure angles helping it on trails vs. on road comfort and stability. But honestly they’re both extremely close to one another and both very good at doing either task! Thanks for watching! 🙂
Neither one is any better than the other. This is comparing apples and oranges. On the same trim levels they both have the same features. We test drove both of these…2022 models and we got the one we liked better…a forester limited with all the options. You buy what suits your needs. It replaced our 11 year old outback that we put 255,000km on. We didn’t need the bigger Outback any more. Plus, that big screen in the OB just too busy.
They’re both great! But the Outback has 3” longer wheelbase, probably slightly less coefficient of drag, and the turbo engine makes it a great road trip car. But I’m sure the FW is nearly just as good. I recently shared two road trip videos in my own OBW. 🙂
Forester wilderness is the one I like. I'm 6'3 and just see better out of the Forester and am more comfortable. I too was looking for a midsized pickup and have found the wilderness are just as capable.
late watching this review but if you can recall or have experience between the OUTBACKS infotainment and FORESTER, was there any lag on them when switching between menus or swiping screens left and right?
I’ve driven more than a dozen outback’s with this screen (and still own my OBW) and driven quite a few Foresters, but have never lived with one. What I know is that I strongly prefer the Foresters 8” screen and layout compared to the 11.6” in basically every other Subaru. It’s back up camera clarity and size is better and it just seems to work better. I’m not sure that it’s any faster than the Outback, but because you’re not as reliant on it for as much it seems much more pleasant, imo. Best luck in whatever you decide! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 that’s good to know I’m glad they gave it a nice update refresh on interior but def not liking the touch screen imo, i hate when automakers fill it with bloatware apps that I may never use and can’t get rid of. And HATE the piano black gloss finish they use in today’s vehicles now . Like I have pets and it comes with the territory of course but I don’t think I should need to wipe down my center console and infotainment constantly
I would have thought the Outback might have better handling or at least less body roll because it has a lower vehicle height and presumably centre of gravity than the Forester? Am I wrong?
That’s a good point. There’s trade off in their body dimensions and weight. But overall the chassis are so similar I’m not sure that a noticeable difference can easily be detected. I will say in most of my newest videos I do a slow motion wheel throw to show dashboard body roll. I have a few Outback videos with that, but it’s a new thing since my last Forester video. Thanks for watching! 🙂
My best friend has a 23Zero which is a soft top that can take 10-15 min to set up. If you’re not in a rush those could be good, they like it. But I know other people who seem to like their hard shell iKamper. I don’t have any personal experience with either. Best of luck in what you decide! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 thanks for the recs! seems like I am going with the forester after all despite the fact that outback is my first choice. After doing a lot of research, it seems like turbo engine cars are more of a pain in the ass to maintain in the long run + saw a vid that forester does better on trails. Your video is very informative though so thanks a lot!
I’m glad I could be helpful! Best of luck in whatever you decide! Both Subaru’s are great, the Outback likely is slightly less reliably, but the power difference is substantial and better understood once behind the wheel. Can’t go wrong either way though! 🙂
I have the 2022 FW in metallic green. Love it! I am not a fan of the OW infotainment system and prefer the actual buttons. I also like that the FW is built in Japan. I hate to admit that but it seems to be better built with less issues overall than the OW. Either way, love Subaru. Thanks for the side by side.
Glad you’re enjoying your FW, and that Green is a sharp color! I think you have a good point about the assembly plant, I’ve had no Subaru issues thankfully with mine having been built in Washington and Indiana. Modern Mazdas also seem well put together and they’re built in Japan. At least certain models. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Hey man, which one has the highest ground clearance? I’m thinking to trade in my Jeep Wrangler for a Subaru, but I like it to be a bit higher. I heard the Outback wilderness has about 9.5” ground clearance. Is that true?
Hey! You’ve heard correctly. The Outback Wilderness is rated at 9.5” and the Forester at 9.2”. Definitely test drive both! I reviewed a 23 Wrangler a few months ago and was surprised at how much worse they drive and handle than I remember from before I started my channel. Very iconic and purpose built vehicle the Jeeps are, but there’s a reason you see a lot of crossovers on the road. Best of luck in what you decide! 🙂
I recommend asking or searching that question on some forums. Mine gets about 21-22 in town and 26-33 at highway speeds. It depends on a lot of variables, much more so than many other vehicles it seems, lol. 😅
Yeah, what my own wilderness gets. The 33 is rare, but I’ve done it multiple times over a full tank of highway driving. That’s some expensive gas, ours is low 4’s.
I’ve hardly heard any concerns over the past few years of these current engines burning any oil. Probably no more common than any other Japanese built car at this point. 🙂
Storage in the forester is better than the outback. The forester entry is wider and taller than the outback. My folding e-bike fits in the forester but not in the outback.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it! I’ve done another walk around a couple months ago that also included a Crosstrek Wilderness if you’re interested in that. 🙂
Agreed! I’ve heard only 5% of the last gen that offered it were sold and that’s why the got discontinued. Similar to why manuals have disappeared as sales went down. Money drives the product. We’re doing it to ourselves I guess, or that’s just what the masses want, lol. 😔
That’s really cool! Because most of my vehicles are borrowed from a dealer and not press vehicles (yet) I’m fairly conservative in my testing, lol. Ryan at Driving Sports TV also does an incredible job doing off road tests! 🙂
Yeah, for sure! I have the legal limit of 35% on the front windows on my own personal OBW, I’m assuming this one had 15-20% (it looked darker potentially due to the overcast). Thanks for watching! 🙂
Due to hip issues ; the way I must enter a vehicle is : open the door , stand in door opening with my butt facing inside the vehicle and sit back onto the seat and then swivel my body to face forward. The entry opening of the driver's door looks taller/higher in the Forester and thus I might be less likely to tap my head on the top of door opening with the Forester ??? Can anyone confirm this ?
I would assume with the Foresters more boxy shape vs. the Outback being a lifted Legacy Sedan wagon you’re probably correct in that assumption. Definitely go check them each out and decide what feels more comfortable to you! 🙂 I’m sorry to hear about your hip issues, but it sounds like you’re doing it exactly how I teach people car transfers! Also, this may not be needed but “car canes” which are a tool that hooks into an open doors latch are a cool device to keep around if ever needed. Best of luck in your decisions! 🙂
I really like that material and they’ve held up well for me so far! You can see how they look in my 20,000 miles update video on my own Wilderness, if you’re interested! 🙂
I’m assuming mine would feel similar to your coworkers, they haven’t treated the material with something? I don’t think they feel rubbery, I like them! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 oh I’m quite positive he’s detailed them a hundred times with leather clean and conditioner despite them not being leather. Perhaps that’s what causing it.
Oh gosh, haha probably. On the forums I’ve heard it’s recommended to only clean them with warm water on a towel and to stay away from traditional leather/vinyl seat products. I’ve only vacuumed mine, haven’t made any real messes needing thorough cleaning, lol.
I just started car sales and I work at a Subaru dealership and these videos and comments help me with product knowledge then what they teach me.
I’m glad to hear you guys have had such a good experience with your Subies! Thanks for watching. 🙂
Great write up, especially drawing from your ownership experience of each! Thanks for watching. 🙂
That’s awesome! I’m glad you guys have had a good previous ownership experience and now have some of the best models to enjoy! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Many thanks. Great vids!
Don't like the touch screen in the outback. Forester has physical buttons and knobs. Forester ftw
It’s really nice with a map
The touch screen is an accident waiting to happen. Crazy to put climate controls and other functions used a lot in a multi layer set up on the screen. I drive an out back and my wife a x trek sport. The sport is much nicer from the standpoint of having knobs and switches vs touch screen
I agree. Have the '22 OBW but I wish it had the CD player, screen and knobs etc like the Forester does.
I agree
I like the touch tone🙂
I own the 22’ Forester Wilderness. Previously owed a 06’ and 11’ Forester. I’m partial to the Forester but wish they would have offered the turbo engine as an option on the Forester Wilderness. . Overall, the Wilderness is the best trim they have offered to date.
My wife and I just bought a 2023 Forester Wilderness. Absolutely loving it. Nice video. Thanks for posting.
Congrats on your sweet ride, which color did you go with? Of course, thanks for watching! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 metallic green😁
That’s a good choice!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Yeah it is a nice surprise first time having a Subaru.
It sounds like we share the same vehicle progression, and I absolutely agree! Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208
I managed to walk away from it with just a concussion.
Oh gosh haha, we’ll I’m glad you’re now right side up and in a new ride! 😲
You made a good choice! Welcome to the club. 🙂
7:50 “Geezer blue” is a pale blue (e.g. Lexus’s Breakwater Blue Metallic). 😂 Geyser blue is much preferred and looks great on the Wilderness models.
I have a FW and I absolutely love it. Couldn’t care less about the turbo. Love the HK audio system.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying it! 🙂
I thought the same thing. Untill I drove it with the turbo. Now I want a turbo. Didn't know I needed it in my life. But I guess ignorance is bliss.
Absolutely! In general if you don’t think you want the turbo, don’t test drive it, haha.
That awesome, I’m glad you found the right Subaru for you.
I'm in the market for a vehicle that has off-road capabilities and since fourrunners and tacomas are so expensive, I have been looking at Subaru. The FW has caught my attention so I am going to check some out next week. It'll be so nice to finally be able to hit the trails and go explore!!!
I’m excited for you. Foresters are awesome and hitting the trails sounds like a good time! 🙂
I love my Outback Wilderness! Bought a 2023 last December. On unplowed dirt roads in the winter it’s the best haven’t gotten stuck yet 😂 this is my 6th Outback. The phone app is the best on early winter mornings and could not live without satellite radio!
I’m glad you’re enjoying yours! They’re seriously sweet in the winter. Mine is back to being parked outside and you’re right about the phone app! 🙂
I'll say the Forester is more tall person friendly than the outback
What’s the info tain ment system upgrades you’re referring to
Please, what is the amount of your discount? Was your discount off MSRP? Any discounted add-ons?Thanks!!
@@dhrtiwalter8670 Mine came with optional package 22. This includes Subaru STARLINK, Harman Kardon sound system and the power rear gate. MSRP was $38,115. My purchase price was $35,000 even. So $3,115 off msrp.
@@ImaYam It’s whatever comes standard in the 2024 model. A spacious touchscreen with hard buttons and knobs below it.
The outback wilderness is a bad ass machine. Love ours. The power from the 2.4 turbo is crazy. Cant see how the forester can compete.
Glad you’re also loving your turbo Wilderness! 🙂
I went with outback. The turbo was the deciding factor. But in the future if they come out with a forester turbo I’m all in!!!
Absolutely!
Of course! Hope yours comes soon! 🙂
I have a 23 OBW, the only reason I went with it was because of the motor, no regrets, would've been happy with a turbo forester though
Same, FW with the turbo! I’m on the fence with which one to choose!
Hey, thanks for the video!!! I had no idea I had a 12V outlet in my OBW glove box!!!! Glad I'm not the only one who says GEEZER blue!!! :)
My pleasure! 😆
I didn’t think the outback XT premium trim had an option for the Harmon kardon
I hope they don't put computerized buttons in the refresh model of the Forester but I know it's coming.
Same! I’m amazed Subaru hasn’t picked up on this yet! Don’t they watch my videos and read our comments in the forums?! Lol 😝
I can't handle that 11 inch infotainment screen with everything integrated in it. I much prefer buttons like my 2022 FW has. But as you stated, that big screen is coming 😩
Forester for off-road, Outback for on road.
We chose the Forester and LOVE it! If I need more speed I put it in Sport mode and I have not been disappointed
That’s awesome, the FW is such a nice ride! 🙂
If your trucks are paid off just keep them. Now you will have 2 vehicles you love one for different applications.
There really isn't much size (height) difference between the two.. Nice to see side by side. Thanks!
Im glad this was helpful! Thanks for watching. 🙂
Keep an eye out for oil consumption. It’s becoming a well known issue
If the Forester had a turbo.
Absolutely! 🙂
I’m glad you liked this older video of mine and you guys were able to make the best decision for you! Foresters are awesome. 🤩
Would’ve been perfect vehicle for the road trip
Amen!!
Thank you so much! Enjoy your trip and I’m sure you’ll be back driving it soon enough!? 🙂
I wish they optioned them both the same and then we can choose the best for what body style we like.
That’s a great suggestion! 🙂
Have you compared the two of them for which is more capable off reading?
What is the biggest tire? That you can replace in a forester. Without even rubbing the fender.
Pro tip: call SoA and see if they can email you a $500 coupon for being a new or returning owner…😉
Beautiful cars! Love the blue color. To me, the Outback is sleeker, much better looking overall.
Best one I think turbocharged manual transmission Wrx wilderness
Amen to that, lol.
I would rather have a Turbo, I have an XT myself, but the Outback is not made in Japan. Who know what the quality built will be.
XT’s are sweet. My Wilderness is from Lafayette, and no issues to date! But only time will tell since this powertrain platform is still quite new. 🙂
I heard Forester handles betters vs. Outback. Outback for longer trips and Forester if I head to local trailheads all the time.
Probably only slightly. The Forester had a 3” short wheelbase and slightly better approach/departure angles helping it on trails vs. on road comfort and stability. But honestly they’re both extremely close to one another and both very good at doing either task! Thanks for watching! 🙂
the outback wilderness doesn't come with the premium HK sound package???
Nope, unfortunately it does not. ☹️
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 makes me happy I got the FW with it!
Forester Limited sure is nice, I hope to review one soon! Thanks for sharing your experience and watching my video. 🙂
Which one of these 2 has a smoother ride on the highway? Which one is more suited for long road trips?
They’re both great! But the Outback has 3” longer wheelbase, probably slightly less coefficient of drag, and the turbo engine makes it a great road trip car. But I’m sure the FW is nearly just as good. I recently shared two road trip videos in my own OBW. 🙂
I like that the Forester still has a CD player
Forester wilderness is the one I like. I'm 6'3 and just see better out of the Forester and am more comfortable. I too was looking for a midsized pickup and have found the wilderness are just as capable.
Compered to which truck models?
late watching this review but if you can recall or have experience between the OUTBACKS infotainment and FORESTER, was there any lag on them when switching between menus or swiping screens left and right?
My 24 ob wilderness has the kardan sound system, but I’m in Canada
My 2014 Forester started running out of oil after every 1000 miles after one year and it’s been a problem for ten years. Problem fixed?
Ouch, I’m sorry to hear that! Yeah, I haven’t heard about any oil consumption on the current generation of Subaru engines.
My gf and I like to go camping a lot so I plan on buying a roof tent. Overall for adventures and such, which one would you recommend?
Thoughts on which one would be best for car camping? Thanks!
Unless you’re near 5’ tall I would recommend the Outback, especially if there is more than one person. I think you’ll appreciate the extra length! 🙂
Awesome video dude… 👍🏾
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
I have a 2022 forester wilderness. I love it but wish it had a little more power. Maybe someday Subaru will put the turbo in the Forester. 🤞
Fingers crossed for sure! Congrats on your sweet ride though. The FW is a great vehicle!
shoutout to all the PTs!
💯 🤩
We order a outback premier xt and we are anxieux of driving it
Anybody have experience adding a hitch. Is there a major impact to the outback exit angle?
What mpg is the outback wilderness getting? I'm stuck between the wilderness and the onyx xt.
I recommend asking or searching that question on some forums. Mine gets about 21-22 in town and 26-33 at highway speeds. It depends on a lot of variables, much more so than many other vehicles it seems, lol. 😅
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 is that the wilderness? mpg is a fairly important due to gas prices in California we just 5$ a gallon again.
Yeah, what my own wilderness gets. The 33 is rare, but I’ve done it multiple times over a full tank of highway driving. That’s some expensive gas, ours is low 4’s.
Do these new models, their engines, do they burn oil as fast as the older models?
I’ve hardly heard any concerns over the past few years of these current engines burning any oil. Probably no more common than any other Japanese built car at this point. 🙂
Storage in the forester is better than the outback. The forester entry is wider and taller than the outback. My folding e-bike fits in the forester but not in the outback.
That’s good to know! Those e-bikes are sweet! 🙂
Question. Is it possible to order a wilderness outback with the swing out cross bars?
Unfortunately not, that’s one of the set standard features with the Wilderness trim level. Thanks for watching!🙂
What MPG are you getting with the Subaru Forester Wilderness Edition?
I’ve heard owners say they range from 22-30. 🤔
What’s your window tint level?
I’m not sure on this used Outback, but it’s definitely much darker than mine is with 35% on the front.
Thank you for this video.
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it! I’ve done another walk around a couple months ago that also included a Crosstrek Wilderness if you’re interested in that. 🙂
Do you think the 20204 will have turbo😢
I sure hope so! But I’m worried the next gen will have the 11.6” display. 🤷♂️🥲
Makes no sense why they don’t put the turbo in the Forester
Agreed! I’ve heard only 5% of the last gen that offered it were sold and that’s why the got discontinued. Similar to why manuals have disappeared as sales went down. Money drives the product. We’re doing it to ourselves I guess, or that’s just what the masses want, lol. 😔
I like the way the Outback handles better.
They do handle quite well, not to bad of body roll for how much ground clearance it has. Thanks for watching! 🙂
So when are we getting the Ascent Wilderness?
That’s a fantastic question, it should be next!! 😎
Fortunately the 2024 outback wilderness DOES have the advanced H. C sound system
Yeah! I actually reviewed one about a month ago, it’s a nice system. 🙂
Outback 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You should watch the Saran N Tuned site she tests both off road and the Forester Wilderness is much more capable!
That’s really cool! Because most of my vehicles are borrowed from a dealer and not press vehicles (yet) I’m fairly conservative in my testing, lol. Ryan at Driving Sports TV also does an incredible job doing off road tests! 🙂
He absolutely does!@@AutomotiveAnonymous208
Tint looks great on the Outback
Yeah, for sure! I have the legal limit of 35% on the front windows on my own personal OBW, I’m assuming this one had 15-20% (it looked darker potentially due to the overcast). Thanks for watching! 🙂
I can’t get over all that cladding, if they toned that down a bit these cars would be perfect
Forester! ❤
What are your thoughts on the startech seat material?
I really like that material and they’ve held up well for me so far! You can see how they look in my 20,000 miles update video on my own Wilderness, if you’re interested! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 does yours have the rubbery feel? My coworker has one and I can’t stand that feeling.
I can’t decide between these two. 😢
They’re both great options, you really can’t go wrong either way, IMO. 🙂
That's easy. The one with the turbo 🤣
For those that don't know the Outback wilderness has the turbo.
I prefer the forester i think it's better gd looking very gd in off road very nice
They are very good! Thanks for watching. 🙂
I like the forester front better but the outbacks back better
I am 62 and mine is geezer blue.
😂 Thanks for watching!
