Adrian, your idea for the hall on switching the direction of the boards is a good one. I think it would look awesome. It will give it a little bit of a different direction. That way, you're not halfing to look for all long boards, especially when you say that there may be some damage to them. I'm looking forward to seeing how ur are going to proceed and how it turns out..
Running the flooring in the opposite direction is a great idea to save the few long lengths you have also as someone said putting a pattern in on the other end in the area at the bottom of the stairs would allow you to use up short lengths as well. Do you close the door to the workshop future kitchen often I would just leave it open in the morning to let the light out into the hall. It's nice of you to allow the race to run through the Chateau grounds. Your Mom works so hard in the garden it is amazing. Love the views from up in the cherry picker.
Your mom is so precious! I never seen four people with such a work ethic. Love your decorating ideas Carole. The Rockies their so beautiful he! 😅 Adrian. Continuer votre beau travail. Merci à la prochaine! 🇨🇦
It’s such a treat to see the towers up close from the cherry picker. And the hall transformation is just beautiful, you two are getting it right. And as always, love a look at the garden!
Having been incredibly impressed by everything you have done so beautifully and painstakingly in your chateau and outside grounds, I am finding that your hallway is my favorite restoration to watch. The transformation is incredible and so important to the initial presentation of your chateau home.
If you replace the upper beveled door panel with glass make sure to use beveled glass to match the integrity of the door & your Chateau. I redesigned our local Chamber of Commerce using beveled glass to mimic molded wood & it resolved an ongoing feud between the historical society & the Chamber. ❤️🙏
They could even have some beautiful etching in the glass ...either look for an historical piece or have one made ...maybe with the coat of arms (if there is one).
Adrian's potential plan for using shorter pieces of wood at the end is a clever solution to maximize the usefulness of what flooring you have left. But I also thought it sets up the possibility of creating a different pattern for the other end near Carole's little niche. That way, it'll look deliberate. Clever idea.
What a pretty view, the end of the hall with the horse head lamp and the chairs. Just beautiful! Mum and Alf getting so much done. I hope I have their drive and energy when I hit their ages.
Hi Carole and Adrian, Another few busy days working on the Chateau and getting ready for the racing. The floor going back in look great and the vegetable gardens will continue through the season. I'm with Adrian on not dealing well with heights on the cherry picker. I couldn't look out the third-floor window and I lived in the old Queen Ann Victorian I owned for 30 + years. Now we're in a mid-century ranch, so much better. Mark & Scott
Adrian, great idea with another pattern on that last piece - BUT how about trying to do something, like the pattern by the front door? That would probably still be possible with shorter pieces, and you could just do it in the middle, and then also do something like it, in the centre up in the other end, by the staircase too? I just think it would really look nice with some sort of pattern in the parquet floors. Just to do something a little "extra" now that the hallway is getting a beautiful upgrade 😊
He could even add other colours of wood, if, as he said, he was almost running out. The possibilities are certainly there, and it would add an extra touch of grandeur. But he has done an amazing job so far, so I'm sure it will look great, whatever he does - I just thought, I'd throw in a little idea, for inspiration 😁
The hallway and floor look amazing. Like the idea of the pattern by the kitchen and bathroom door. So nice to see the race go through the chateau grounds. Gorgeous chateau at the end with beautiful details. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
It's wonderful that you include so much context in your videos. Between family gatherings, group projects, neighbours helping neighbours, community events, getting lost and finding delightful surprises around every corner... you provide so much added value to the story of your chateau renovation. Your joyful engagement in the world really is inspirational!
It’s all coming together now, the flooring in the hallway the door off of the hallway. It’s all going to be so beautiful! I cannot wait until you are finished!!
Lovely video as usual! Great to see the grounds from up high - the roof looks great from what we can see ! Doing a great job on the hallway!! Adrian if you need a rescue wear your orange beanie next video and I’ll alert authorities 😝😂
I just appreciate so much visualizing your videos every week. The work that is advancing so well..the hallway is gorgeous, adorned with the curtains Carole made and the lamp shades + the color that brightens it all. What a great idea Carole had to have reproduced the motif of the wallpaper that was in the hallway onto tissue in order to make curtains. It is a wink of what was on that hallway accompanied by the tableau at the end of the hallway of the real thing. Yes! Light should be directed on the tableau to showcase it. It has been a dream of my Husband and I to see Mont St-Michel and now You have showed this Bay not far from the Mont that looks so tranquil and out of time. I lived in B.-C. Canada at a certain time in my life … It brings me back in time. Yes! I agree, that little valley has a resemblance. I appreciate also when You grace us with pictures of that lovely village caressed by a bucolic little river accompanied by a look at the entrance of Château Montgomery. Happy that Carole Parents are around to help out also. Will the next video be the brocante you where looking for….Anticipation… 😊
5🪃🪃🪃🪃🪃 vlog thank you for footage of the race ,makes the vlog more lifelike as if we are seeing everyday life instead of just a renovation , on the Reno hallway looking great with Carol still painting away .Garden looking great ,Mum adding her 100% so adorable ,good drone work of the roof .The cafe by the water looked great regards Dave& Pat
I love the cresting (that’s what the ornamental roof bits are called. I looked it up!) on the chateau. It is beautiful. The hallway is looking lovely. I think the floor will be wonderful going either direction with the planking. Everyone is doing a smashing job!
Ahahahaha Canadian connection 😍 You're so talented, Adrian, with your floor design; I think your idea of changing the orientation floor pattern will look great.
BAHHHHHA “HELP ME SHE’S DRIVING ME NUTS” 🤣Adrian you are so funny. That hallway looks amazing keep up the great work yoyou two.Carol your parents are so sweet . . God bless them.
As a Canadian I would say St. James is more like the rolling hills of Northern New Brunswick then the towering Rockies. Great vlog thanks for sharing and I am looking forward to many more
I’ve been waiting to c the finished hall floor! JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!! Adrian u have a GREAT IDEA of running the boards smaller length to get rid of boards u HAVE AND it’ll look still look great!!! Oh that hall is awesome!!!! The whole house is wonderful! Can hardly wait for the kitchen but it all takes time??? U both just do such lovely work plus ur mum and Alf in the gardens! Lovely lovely!
Great video, beautiful views of the Countryside! Carole, the White paint completely transforms the hallway, it seems to glisten in the light. Well done! 😊👍 Nice work in the garden Mum! 👍 The hallway floor is looking great Adrian! Running the floorboards sideways in that one area is a good choice, but it would look even better if you had a design or pattern such as the one by the front door, or even a few simple triangular shapes would enhance that area and shouldn't be too difficult to manage. 😊👍
Ok! Back to planting some zennia seeds just to see if I can get a fresh batch!!! 103 degrees today? In north Texas! So great to see your gardens coming along. Amazing history in France!! Love to see the houses and bridges!!
Another brilliant week! So glad to see you are all taking time to enjoy the summer. ROFL at the msg on the floor, Love it!! I wonder what the new owner will think a hundred years from now if they take the floor up and see it hahaha. Adrian deserves a strawberry 🍓 Hmm no Bricante in this film.. did Carole find a chandelier that she is keeping secret?
Thank you for another lovely video. Thanks, Beth, for editing. I assume you still are editing. I didn't expect a video as I saw you say you were on vacation. The floor is very impressive, even with Adrian's silly call out for help! Too funny! Carole, your mom is inspiring. I see where you get your drive from. The roof is also impressive close up. It wouldn't be me up there, though. Enjoy your time away. Come back with lots to show us. It was great to see the runners and bikers. It looked like a huge turnout. Lots of love to you all.❤
I just want to give my vote for the anthracite paint on the bottom panels of the hallway. First of all I love the color, so my opinion might be biased. I painted the woodwork in our 1938 english revival bungalow in that color. However, the color is warm and grounding and goes well with dark oak floors, at least in my house it does. We also have a lot of color (1930's houses were rich with color) and it goes well with all of it. I think in your hallway it would do the same, ground the base so that the beautiful blues, whites and creams can sour.
What a great Mum helping out in the garden. It’s looking lovely by the way. Adrian your work on that flooring is amazing you must be pleased. Your nearly there 👍
What a beautiful little tucked away café! A lot of the landscape and foliage is reminiscent of sections in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is minutes from me. If Carole wants to go hiking with a bit more self-assurance, a hiking stick would be great! I use one when I go through the park trails. If not, she can still get that stick and use it for other purposes (when is the flooring going to be done?) 😅. For the flooring, I think changing the direction would be perfectly suitable. It would help making a better visual for the floor when entering/leaving the bathroom (toilet) and provided that there be similar wood flooring in the workshop then having the layout of the rotated wood transition nicely into the room and that direction would be appropriate for it, yes?
Adrian I grew up in the Rockies, live only a couple hours away now. Mountains near me are called the Cascades. What you are panning around, well isn't a pimple on the backside of the Rockies! Beautiful, yes, but not the Rockies. But thank you for snorting my coffee out of my nose, good laugh, that.
That hallway 🤩 my goodness, it truly is a stunner. But so is everything and everyone else at the Chateau! But a definitely call out for Bethany too, because the video editing and music selections are as spectacular as the building itself. I feel like such a broken record with the gushing, but truly, I greatly look forward to your videos!
All the hallway is impressive 🤗👍 Well done Adrain for braving the cherrypicker great video footage 🤗 Love the trip out great views 👍🤗☕🍰🍓☕🍓 Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Have any of you thought about your mom and dad moving in with you? They seam to really enjoy being with you and helping out with the chores. The house is truly big enough and you will also be able help them when the time comes. I cared for my mom till the end and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.😊
The hallway is really coming together. Love the idea of putting in a glazed panel to let more light in, and reversing the direction of the boards is a brilliant way to avoid too many cuts.
PG Tips Stunning scenery the garden is looking so good !!! Your mum Carole is a ⭐️ the floor looking good as we knew it would . Lovely views from the cherry picker , that cafe ☕️ looked inviting hope the food was good ? 👍
Thank you for all the beautiful places we can discover with you . i like the architecture of the roof with four towers and all the ornamental work. You can see so far from the top of the roof, amazing.
Well Adrian, that puts a whole new spin on “Let’s get Cracking!” The view is astounding when you see the valley, the coach house and the walled gardens from above. Brilliant idea to run the last of the wood in the opposite direction to complete that part of the floor in the hallway; it adds interest to the end of the hallway which is looking Fabulous!!🎉🎉 Huge congratulations on the results of your hallway restoration project . You’re a master at puzzles by now for sure. I was just wondering? Why are there lighter pieces running across the hallway? Is it a different wood species? Will they take the stain/finish the same as the majority of the wood with the final finish?? It really looks like a totally new space!! Have you considered the radiators in the blue to match the walls rather than to highlight them by a contrast?? 😮😅😊 The garden beds look amazing now. I like the wooden borders. It gives a very finished appearance to the long wall. Nice to have the help! Big 🦶 Foot??? 😂😂😂 You’re too much!! Carry on and all the best!!
Love what you are doing at the Chateau but watching your videos has also been about the enjoyment of you guys as a hard working couple and what you achieve. I hope you keep vlogging in England, I for one will continue to watch ❤
If you want to keep the Garden Beds weed free and extremely easy to maintain going forwards - then cover them in 3-4 inches thick layer of Large Bark Mulch. Don't get Medium or Fine Bark Mulch - that just mats together and doesn't allow rain water to penetrate the soil. Large Bark Mulch on the other hand will. Best practice is to heavily water the bed/soil before you add Mulch to it - that way you will lock in moisture to the soil. If the Soil in the bed is compacted, no need to fully dig it over, just Aerate/loosen it with a Fork before the Mulch is then applied.
Adrian your suggestion re the flooring sounds sensible...it will hardly be noticed down at the end of the hall. A big hello to Carole's mum from Australia....if she digs through she can come and see me....what a worker...a legend.
As you were explaining your ideas for finishing the floor in front of the kitchen I thought of something else you could do with short pieces of wood, is it possible to make another diamond shape centered in that end of the hall? Bravo Adrian, you are getting braver with heights! Carole , mum, etc it's been a lot of hard work and the garden is looking really wonderful!
A nice long rug in light and dark grey tones would look great going down the centre of the hall. 16:35 . I enjoyed looking at your roof. Some nice GOLD framed paintings would look good in the hall. I love paintings.
Great view from up there Adrian 😊, Carole your mum and Alf have done a great job in the garden and the hallway floor is looking great too. Can not wait to see it finished and everything in it's place it's going to be good with Carole's deco creative design, take care and see you all soon 💕🌼🤗
Wonderful vlog! Really like the idea about the pattern by the bathroom, Adrian. Wonderful attention to detail, Carole! Love your Mom! Awesome we get to go along with you on your adventures! Ty.
Adrian could repeat the square parquet design at the end of hall in front of the toilet to enable a smooth transition for the flooring direction change
Just a thought, that kitchen door mostly stays open anyway. I wouldn’t bother putting glass in it. A pressure washer with a power bank could be really amazing to clean the north side debris off of the roof. Then you could see what tiles need to be changed. It would look amazing.
Looking great! Chateau de la Ferte is being reborn thanks to you! I was wondering is you've ever considered putting a mirrored wall at the end of the hallway by the Loo (sorry, in America Loo sounds so much better than toilet) to give the impression as you walk down the hallway that the hallway continues on and on and on back to the staircase and hang a crystal chandelier in the space which can also be reflected into the mirror and appear as having 2 chandeliers to brighten the end of the hallway? Especially with a glass insert into the door from the old kitchen, the effect would be quite amazing and dramatic! Even if you had a demilune console table at the end there 😀😍at the mirror, it would appear to be round by the reflection. Quite a conversation piece, Yes??
You could place a design in the floor boards, similar to the area at your entrance way, in which you could utilise many of the short pieces and off cuts from damaged boards running from the toilet along the passage way. Whilst this would take a lot more time and work it would blend the boards without looking out of place.
So much has happened today, Carole, the door looks so much better, how a little paint can make it better. The floor in the hall is wonderful, not so much left to finish, although still hard work on the stairs. The view from above is amazing! The annual run seems to have gone well. A, the place with the castle on the river is beautiful.
What is that musical piece ? Your Parents are Pioneer models, they just keep on ticking !! Adrian, Nice to see the roof top up close, to see the fancy metal work. If you were not going to be replacing those roof slates, I would say they need a power wash. Something sprayed on the stone to kill off the mossy growth
Your mum Carole is a diamond , such a hard worker. Loved watching😘
I know, she’s a superhero!

The garden beds look amazing now. I like the wooden borders. It gives a very finished appearance to the long wall. Nice to have the help!
Big 🦶 Foot??? 😂😂😂 You’re too much!! Carry on and all the best!!
The lighter shades are just the difference in the natural wood. Another coat of Osmo might darken it slightly
Love what you are doing at the Chateau but watching your videos has also been about the enjoyment of you guys as a hard working couple and what you achieve. I hope you keep vlogging in England, I for one will continue to watch ❤
Yes we will and thank you 😊
If you want to keep the Garden Beds weed free and extremely easy to maintain going forwards - then cover them in 3-4 inches thick layer of Large Bark Mulch.
She is! 😊
They are slowly transforming the garden! 😊
We can’t wait either!
Wonderful vlog! Really like the idea about the pattern by the bathroom, Adrian. Wonderful attention to detail, Carole! Love your Mom! Awesome we get to go along with you on your adventures! Ty.
You are so welcome!
The garden area is really beginning to look nice. 🍓🥬🥕🫛🥒
Adrian could repeat the square parquet design at the end of hall in front of the toilet to enable a smooth transition for the flooring direction change
❤ your videos, thank you from Sussex. Your home will be beautiful when you finish. Such love & care restoring it!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much!
Your mom is a tiny dynamo. Everything is coming along so beautifully. I look forward to each new episode. ❤
Thank you! 😊
I like your idea of timber by the front door.
God Bless your Mom Carol!!!!! She is out there working where men would say aww forget it !!!
Totally agree 😂
Omg , I've just seen your listing for selling the chateau! I can't believe this is going to over so soon .
You and me both!
Just a thought, that kitchen door mostly stays open anyway. I wouldn’t bother putting glass in it. A pressure washer with a power bank could be really amazing to clean the north side debris off of the roof. Then you could see what tiles need to be changed. It would look amazing.
I had the same thought about the door.
What a great view from the roof. Such a lovely area.
You could place a design in the floor boards, similar to the area at your entrance way, in which you could utilise many of the short pieces and off cuts from damaged boards running from the toilet along the passage way. Whilst this would take a lot more time and work it would blend the boards without looking out of place.
Good morning everyone ❤❤
That was the best seeing the view from your roof love love thanks ❤❤🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed it
Mom and Alf seem to enjoy working in the garden.
Yes they do
Beautiful video!
Thanks John! 😊
Oh my mum and Alf are such hard workers , it must be lovely to have extra hands in the garden , it's looking wonderful 😊
They are!
The outdoor cafe looks like Ontario 🇨🇦. The hallway looks so grand!!!
Yes and Thank you 😊

I wonder if you could make a diamond pattern for the floor by the workshop to echo the centre ; then you could use even shorter pieces/ off cuts.
So much has happened today, Carole, the door looks so much better, how a little paint can make it better. The floor in the hall is wonderful, not so much left to finish, although still hard work on the stairs. The view from above is amazing! The annual run seems to have gone well. A, the place with the castle on the river is beautiful.
I think so too!
@@LifeAfterLaFerté 👍
What is that musical piece ?
Your Parents are Pioneer models, they just keep on ticking !!
Adrian, Nice to see the roof top up close, to see the fancy metal work.
If you were not going to be replacing those roof slates, I would say they need a power wash.
Something sprayed on the stone to kill off the mossy growth
Carole, your Mum and Alf seems soo sweet and very helpful💓 86? She looks great and still works hard, a true gem indeed!
I know!!
Hallway is beautiful
