One day at the gym he comes up to me and asks if I'm still looking for a job. Turns out his sister works for a company that was looking for someone. He put in a good word for me.
Very time consuming but true. You basically gotta become a detective, I tell people this and they don't believe me. Then I get good paying jobs and they ask me how I did it.

this hidden job market is like going to a bar regularly and tipping heavily. and the bartender may get you a free drink or fries. but you can never ask for it so you won't be able to bank on it.
now i have tried to network with people specially when i just graduated. if i had spent that time actually applying instead of wasting it connecting with people who are too busy, i would be employed 3 years early. its just how it is. nowadays the market is so hot in ontario i just spray my job on indeed, I'm getting offers. and direct website applications guarantee me an interview. networking sounds fun. but it seems to be for those who have experience and know the players in the market.
also depending on location the people can go from very cold to very rude to outsiders. so how you suppose to network with people who won't talk to you.

@blah blah Have you tried this approach? how do you know it doesn't work for you? Basically you need to go boss hunting. Not everyone is your cup of coffee but eventually you will come across someone who is willing to hire you.
According to Mr Clarke, you need to born into a well connected family or whatever.
That is a no-advice. Having connections is always great.
Who with a sane mind will help his competition and give answers how to land a job in the company.....

Mr. Clarke is not really bad. But his advice just does not stand out in comparison to all those other channels weich is cantradictory and kind of killing his credibility.
@@rock801 In America people will help the competition all the time as we are not trying to build a monopoly and infact it is illegal to build a monopoly here in America. The Government has stepped in a few times preventing corporations from having a monopoly on Social media such as mergers and deals and even as far to pay companies to stay afloat. There has also been times where companies themselves have payed for the development of rival companies as competition is good for everyone involved

Darnell Clarke Thanks for getting back with me. I specifically applied for an HR internship recently. My question is if the the job/intern candidate doesn't have direct/or previous experience in project management, but meets all the other qualifications; could there be ways for the candidate (based on other work / and or academic experiences) to describe transferable skills that may be relevant to project management at a job interview or to stand out at the interview despite lack of direct experience in project management?

On the job description, prior experience in project management is preferred, and not required
Hello Grace, if the job/intern candidate gets the interview with little to no PM experience, then they are half-way home. There was something about their resume that the interviewer liked. Once the interview starts, then they can throw out the resume with little to no PM experience, because whatever they do in the interview will get them the job.
So, to answer your question, yes, the job/intern candidate can describe transferable skills that may be relevant to project management at a job interview. And the better they can do it, the better chance they will have of getting the offer. ---- I hoped that helped!!!

Hey Josephine, thanks for your feedback! The email your friend gave you, was it to an actual person or was it to a general email box? If it's to an actual person, then just gave a short into and give them your Value Added Proposition. If you don't know what that is, go find my UA-cam video on it. If the email is to a general infobox, then I wouldn't waste my time to send anything. Remember "people hire people".

There's this position I want at SNY.tv (which is a division of NBC Universal) and I want it badly. Problem is, it looks like the whole department has been wiped out clean and there's no Human Resources Manager at SNY. Is the HR Manager at SNY responsible for hiring candidates for SNY positions or is the parent company? (NBC Universal)
Hello Julius, The hiring manager will be working for SNY. Is there an open position you saw? If not, it will be hard to get them to hire you without an open position to connect you with...
It's an open position (Producer/Editor), I double checked with SNY and NBC. It's still open. There's also a vacancy at Human Resources Manager which makes me feel stuck in neutral.
How do I go about applying for a position for which there's no HR manager. Would there be a recruiter acting as a HR manager for the time being I'm not sure.

Susan Brooks joBscan. I use it all the time. Haven't got kicked out yet, so that's progress. Without it, it's a wrap. But it's hard to get a position just online by itself plain and simple. Not about what you know. You can be the most talent person for the job and be a great candidate. But somebody that you're better than has a job, why? Because they knew somebody or connected with somebody on the inside that hooked them up. Especially for those big companies, can't get anywhere without networking or knowing people who knows people.
So network with people on LinkedIn at your target companies. People in your prospective department, the head guys in charge or people who you'll be working with. Gain their trust, have a convo, and if they have confidence in you, they'll speak up for you and refer you to their boss or the one who's doing the hiring.

Perhaps a disclaimer at the end of your video saying: "Doing this crap doesn't guarantee success" will help people understand some of your sketchy advice might work, but more likely, wont. Just so folks know. By the way, telling people to check company websites to see if the job is still posted is TERRIBLE advice! Many companies don't have a Careers Page, and therefore simply do not post job opportunities on their websites. Telling people to assume a job posting that doesn't appear on a company's website is no longer available is irresponsible. You should replace this video with something less B.S.-ee.

To be fair the only absolutes in life are Death and Taxes so it should be common sense that no advice will guarantee success. That said being good friends with someone who works at a place you want to work at will give you a good chance of getting hired, however you have to be good friends with them otherwise they will not give the referral as they are risking their neck just to get you a job offer as if you turn out bad and all they are getting punished and or a high chance of them getting fired. Which is why people don't usually refer others but it is the best way of getting hired even if there is no open job listing
Also many companies do keep a job listing up even if they are not hiring as they are too lazy to take it down so you have to call the company and ask them if that position is still open
