I always thought it was a tube screamer with more eq controls which is cool but doesn’t Macon make a tube screamer with two eq controls already ?
How about an SD1 that you could add a touch more low end back into it nothing crazy just a bump because the SD1 is just about perfect, I just wish I could thicken it up without dampening the nasty top end bite it has. I have an OCD and it almost does it but it’s a little too fat on the bottom end for high gain in my opinion. Of course you can get a cheap 6 band eq I have one made by Blakk for 35 or 40 dollars and turn about any OD into whatever boutique drive you’re chasing even the Bad Monkeys.
It cracks me up because you couldn’t give a Bad Monkey away last week. Wasn’t it Vai’s ultimate modded Tube Screamer anyway and Vai’s name has been on a lot of gear and none of it has sucked so everyone had 30 years to bad monkey and now everyone is digging them out of their closet for the chumps. There’s an ass for every seat .
I love it whenever a player that becomes the next guitar icon uses gear everyone hated on , TS10 anyone ? Then people act like that obscure pedal is the secret to their tone when more than likely the guy needed an OD and that’s what he had. Pretty much any OD will do most everything that’s what the knobs are for guys.
Wait until JHS does a video on the crossroads pedal.
I have to say, the only people probably buying the Bad Monkey for over $200 are UA-camrs so they can do their obligatory Bad Monkey video, lol.
What the hell? I remember buying all my pedals for about $40-$80, about 14 years ago. Now I just use a Katana and am happy with what I can do with just that

Especially since it is completely useless, because if you know how to use modeling and can adjust everything in the slightest detail, it sounds even better than traditional amps and pedals, you have fewer settings by definition on the real gear.
So not only is there speculation, but it is completely unnecessary. If it sounded better to have physical products, I would be willing to accept the argument, but I have been playing for over 20 years and that is not at all what I have noticed. It all depends on whether you know how to make the adjustments in the slightest detail

It was the cheap alternative to a Tubescreamer. Now that it is more expensive than a Tubescreamer, might as well just get a Tubescreamer. Or get the superior SD1 instead, lol.

I’ve had a pair of them for years, got them for around $25 each. Always liked them, especially paired with an SD-1. Always been happy with them. Saw one in a Tacoma area pawn shop for $50 yesterday, resisted the urge to pick it up and flip it. I won’t participate in that nonsense.

Hahahahahaha!!!! In all honesty, the Bad Monkey is more like the VFE Dragon and the Fortin Tempest. Note that the Tempest is a clone of the VFE Dragon. :)
The effect pedal market has gone bonkers. The Bad Monkey is just a Tube Screamer with a bass knob and a cab emulated output. Anybody with even a half decent amp won't use the cab emulated output, and there are Tube Screamer clones out there with even more extended equalizer section than the Bad Monkey.
Even the Big Tone Music Brewery Classic Overdrive with switchable Tube Screamer (Symmetric Clipping) and SD-1 (Asymmetric Clipping) modes and an extended equalizer section costs just $190. People willing to pay $900 for Bad Monkey have more money than brains.

I used to have a bad monkey, bought it for 40€ sold it for 40€ a couple of years later. It is ridiculous this thing that its going on. Bad Monkey is a great pedal however mass produced and the price they ask now its not realistic. All these influences and people who follow them are becoming a farce.

I’ve been playing for more than 35 years now. And I’m building my own pedal for about 5 yrs now. Don’t fall on it! Bad monkey is bad monkey and klon is a klon. They are completely different pedal.
Yeah, I agree. I think they have to be different with a little cross that makes them sound the same at just the right setting.
The only people buying this for over $300 are the people selling it.
At some point, I'm not even sure that "some" actively want to kill the second hand market (by some, I mean a diffuse and shared responsibility of many individuals). It's just insane and the implications on the future of pedal use/designs and such (even on the pro market) will be subject to complete instability. I'm not a big name in the pedal industry but even I, have seen my pedals going for more on the second hand market than my brand new ones...go figure

I'm learning that lots of guitarists loved the high and low option in this pedal, even to just use it as a boost with the gain at zero.
What's going on is these guys don't know their equipment are too many nubies at the stuff, those have always been a joke since the beginning is the craze just like all the equipment that has been jacked up since Coved 19. All I can say is it is not pink or Magenta in color LOL.

The bad monkey is green though and we know the only pedal louder than a green one is a yellow one,you want a great 50 dollar OD go buy yourself a SD1 it’s yellow and for metal what this channel is all about the SD1 is the best drive for the money for metal forget about it. Getcha a couple SD1s hell before you pay 200 for a monkey get 4 SD1

Here's my suggestion to all guitar players...have an sd1 circuit, a ts9/od808 circuit, and an integrated preamp circuit. That's what i'm doing lol.
