This turned out amazing and it's such a nice fitted sweater. Also, I think machine knitted garments still count as handmade just not hand knit bc they're machine knit, but you're still making it by hand. That also gives the garment workers who made store-sold sweaters the power they deserve too because they are hand making the sweaters they create. At the very least, they are sewing the seams to put the garment together, if not also supervising or operating the knitting machine in some way.
I love watching your mechanical adventures! Love seeing a woman tinker with tools. It reminds me of the days when my dad would let me work on cars with him. My dad would have loved you if he was still alive. Maybe he is smiling down on you!
I'm loving this whole series! Your creations are so beautiful. I consider machine knitting similar to using a weaving loom. It's handmade. You're just using a device that has to be hand manipulated in order to make a creation. If stuff made in a weaving loom are considered handmade, so are things made in a knitting machine. I wish I had room or time for a knitting machine. But I'll stick with hand knitting for now 😉.
I've heard "sewing up" on the machine called "linking" ... at least in industry, where it's done not on the CNC knitting machines, but on special dedicated "linking machines".
It looks like you figured out your sizing! As someone who is new to their knitting machine, do you think you would ever do an in depth tutorial on how to machine knit a vintage sweater?
I would think that by machine you must manually operate is still handmade, just not hand-knitted. Some people may disagree of course but the fact that it's not an automatic machine matters. Thanks, I love your channel
That sweater came out beautiful! Love the color and how fine the yarn is. The machine knitting makes the texture so even. I love that you can do most of the seaming on the machine too, that's really nifty.
What a lovely garment you ended up with. I've been enjoying following you journey with your unraveler and knitting machine. I don't know if it is just me but your into seems to be very fast, don't know if you were just speaking faster than "normal" or if something got speed up, I had to check to make sure that I wasn't on 1.25 speed. Just wanted to let you know, but I enjoyed the video regardless.
I tried slowing it down to 0.75 and it was close to her usual speech speed! I think something went wrong during editing indeed! (Still a lovely video though!)
Hello, I usually set the sleeves into the armholes first, then sides, and the sleeves in one go..also while knitting I place small length of contract yarn on the beginning and end of every 20 rows so when it's off the machine it correspondents beautifully. Ps. I use claw weights only after the ribbing on my brother..Well done . Its hand crafted and I ❤ the rich colour
Beautiful sweater! I appreciate that you have the music on your videos at a normal level. Most people put it so loud I have to turn the volume down and then I end up missing some of the dialogue. You are great to watch and such an inspiration!
This is beautiful! What a lovely color and sweater pattern. This capsule wardrobe is going to be spectacular. Machine knit still counts as by hand! Goodness there is so much work that goes into it.
What a wonderful sweater! By the way, thank you for showing us the entire process, I used to believe that a knitting machine works like a coffeemaker, you press a button and the desired size sweater comes out 😅 and turns out it's a whole process, honestly I respect much more the "industrial" pieces my h more because I know probably someone had to manage the machines, as a hand knitter I feel I have much more control over the process than if I was operating a knitting machine
Hi from the uk, i used to own a vintage brother knitting machine from the 1980s, but found it too stressful to use Its a shame because did knit a few very nice jumpers and hats on it. As it was well used before i owned, it needed frequent maintenence and the frustrations bending needles and damage to the cast on comb. So i sent it to the scrap metal man, i still wish id have kept it as like you say it makes knitting a lot quicker at fine gauges
Regarding whether knitting with a machine is considered "handknit" or not... I for myself wouldn't consider machine knit things "handknit" or handmade (in the way I associate stuff with the term handmade/handknit) although you are using your hands, but that's for me personally. Your knitting machine really fascinates me and it looks all very cool and amazing in the end!
Later this year which we don't have much left I would like to attempt to make a capsule wardrobe myself I definitely know next year I will be working on that with vintage patterns
Your sweater looks amazing. I came across a singer linking machine for 100$ on marketplace. My understanding of the linker attachment is that it can be fiddlely. The linker machine so easy to use. As a side note, machine knitting is still handmade just like a sewing machine is still handmade. People are quick to judge, but you only get 1 body and repetitive stress injuries are debilitating. The amount of knitting you do is amazing but it can take a toll on your body and you need to take care of yourself first and foremost before you allow others to judge. Moderation is key!
Amazing!! I think machine knitting is handmade but not handknit. It still requires a lot of effort and knowledge on your part as you make it, but you are not knitting each stitch by hand, which would take way longer, so I think a distinction is helpful.
Truly a beautiful piece of wearable art, it definitely shows the appreciation for the original material and is reworked in a modern way where you can physically relate to the new story of your sweater. This is definitely a project ad wardrobe win in my eyes 😊😫
Beautiful ! Can you tell us how did your learn to use your knitting machine ? I haven't watched all of your videos yet, maybe you allready talked about that. My grand mother has one, but I don't know how it works and she can't tell me as she is ill with alzheimer's.... I would love to learn and feel connected with her again knitting on the same machine she one loved and used... Thanks for your interesting videos ! Pets for Nutella cause she's such a good girl !
Amazing sweater! I love watching your machine knitting videos, as a fellow machine knitter. In terms of sizing, do you use the original pattern measurements and adjust to fit you? I ask because I've had a lot of difficulty getting machine knit items to fit (similar to your flat sock knitting issues a while back!). Also at 8:07 I noticed you're using a normal transfer needle to transfer from ribber to main bed, but did you know there is a needle transfer tool that makes this way easier? 10/10 would recommend!
It doesn't look like you use every peg when making a sweater. Is it possible for you to swap some pegs at the very end that are straight with the pegs that are bent as a quick fix to hold you over until your able to repair or replace the bent pegs? Just a thought. 😊
I know nothing about knitting machines--this is fascinating. Is there a range of tensions for your machine that you can use with different yarn weights?
You might have explained this in another video about your knitting machine and I've missed it, but why do you create such a large extension with waste yarn to keep the stitches alive? Wouldn't e.g. 5 rows be enough? I guess I don't really understand how this works 😅
That jumper is amazing! Just out of interest what weight would you say that yarn is? It looks so much finer than the 4 ply that I’m using on my machine at the moment, would love to make something finer.
Does someone know a knitting pattern (preferably from ravelry) that is similar to this? I love the fitted look, the neckline, the cuffs everything about this and I need to have one myself.
I have been told by professional knitwear designers that a manual operated knitting machine still counts as handmade...maybe not hand knit but for sure handmade
Hmm, I'm not sure but for some reason esp around 1.5min in, it really sounded not just like you were speaking fast but like you had like a 1.1x speed on the clip...
I have 2 knitting machines, their names are Ethel and Heather. Ethel is a real madam and plays all kinds of mean tricks on me.
This turned out amazing and it's such a nice fitted sweater. Definitely we wouldn’t say a sewist was cheating

Golly that looks harder than hand knitting the whole thing well done!
I love when you had knitting needles in your bun haha
That sweater came out beautiful! Love the color and how fine the yarn is. The machine knitting makes the texture so even. I love that you can do most of the seaming on the machine too, that's really nifty.
That was amazing!! And a real tongue twister for sure, haha! All the best, Kimberly
Knitting, nerdy, and dogs, how did I not discover you sooner?

Absolutely beautiful and it fits you so well!
Hello, I usually set the sleeves into the armholes first, then sides, and the sleeves in one go..also while knitting I place small length of contract yarn on the beginning and end of every 20 rows so when it's off the machine it correspondents beautifully. That colour really suits you! What a gorgeous sweater 😊
Using the knitting machine to stitch the pieces together blew my friggin marbles right out my ears that's sew cool!
😮 looovvvve that. I say you are knitting by hand. You have to push the carriage, add and bind off stitches. So yeah, handmade!
Beautiful sweater! I appreciate that you have the music on your videos at a normal level. Most people put it so loud I have to turn the volume down and then I end up missing some of the dialogue. You are great to watch and such an inspiration!
That sweater is definitely still handmade, especially with the amount of tinkering you have to do without the attachments! It turned out lovely!
Lovely sweater, great video and the cutest dog ever! Thank you so much ❤
Stunning sweater. And that red is fantastic on you.
What a great beginning to a capsule wardrobe! That sweater will go so well with so many other pieces you either make, have or source.
Omg this sweater looks stunning on you. It turned out so beautiful. That color is your color.
An absolutely beutiful sweater and the colour is one of my favourites
Gorgeous! Well done! I very much enjoy your videos.
This is beautiful! What a lovely color and sweater pattern. This capsule wardrobe is going to be spectacular. Machine knit still counts as by hand! Goodness there is so much work that goes into it.
I love the sweater, and the color is gorgeous. I'm catching up by watching the earlier videos.

The sweater fit and colour look so perfect on you! Excited to see how the rest of the wardrobe comes together!
That's a *very* cute sweater, and good work troubleshooting the machinery, even if the bent bits made it not quite work out this time.

Love a 3/4 length sleeve. Beautiful!
It fits so perfectly!
Super cute sweater
That’s lovely! Great job
That's gorgeous!
That is so cool and I love the end result. Thanks for showing us how you did it!
So lovely. Thanks for sharing
Amazing work and video as usual - and great music choice! Thanks so much for making my day brighter :)
Love these videos!

Nutella is such a cute,
Lovely!! You make it look so easy!
The sweater is great, I especially like the beautiful deep red. I recycle sweaters as well, but in a very low tech, hand wound sort of way!
The fit is terrific. And the colour is perfect on you. Well done!
It’s beautiful
Is it possible to remove the bent pins/ needles and replace them with straighter pins that are out at either end of the bed?
Beautiful color and fit. Well done!
I really want a knitting machine now. I love doing colourwork or lace but stockinette gets monotonous, I would love to whisk it along!
So beautiful! 😍
The music intermission made me laugh ☺️
I got a lower tech knitting machine at a local rummage sale. Wonder if I should try setting that up

I love the yellow sweater you’re wearing in the intro 😱💖 any chance you could point me in the right direction (aka ravelry) to recreate it?
Looks great! Too bad the machine helper gadgets are not quite there yet!
It doesn't look like you use every peg when making a sweater. Is it possible for you to swap some pegs at the very end that are straight with the pegs that are bent as a quick fix to hold you over until your able to repair or replace the bent pegs? Just a thought. 😊
What sweater are you wearing? Love your new one too!
Like what you're doing! Was the ribbing thing you couldn't get to work supplemental to the rubber? Thanks!!
This brought me back to the Gaskill ball in Oakland. Did you actually play a Mazurka as the music in this video??
I know nothing about knitting machines--this is fascinating. Is there a range of tensions for your machine that you can use with different yarn weights?

You can use sewing machine for sewing the pieces together. It's faster and looks better.
That girl is cool!
anyway, asmr starts at 07:43

Using a knitting machine is just as much handmade as using a sewing machine!
I have been told by professional knitwear designers that a manual operated knitting machine still counts as handmade...maybe not hand knit but for sure handmade
Sometimes a girl's just gotta get the chair fluffed just right
Hmm, I'm not sure but for some reason esp around 1.5min in, it really sounded not just like you were speaking fast but like you had like a 1.1x speed on the clip...
In the intro, your talking is jerky,, like it uploaded or recorded badly, thought you may like to know 😊
I like your videos but there's not enough of them can you do more
Knitting with a knitting machine is not knitting. It is machine made. No point at looking a video about the mechanics of a machine.
It is knitting, just not hand knitting but still knitting and still a great labour of love and work. It's harder than it looks
It is still hand work, as the machine is not automatic
