To get around your projection problem, project the circle as a construction line, then draw the arc on to of it, setting concentric and equal radius constraints (or lock the endpoints on the circle). That should keep everything linked together properly.

Was just about to comment the same. Was having very similar problems recently with projected lines. Just draw an arc on top of the projected line and constrain it to be the same. then whenever the projected line changes your arc will too.

or just place a 2 point centerpoint arc directly upon the projected circle

Paul Ste. Marie you beat me to it! This is the exact workflow. This habit also helps when picking a face for an extrude. Since you can usually keep it down to a single closed loop.

Dofok I always forget about center point arc. :)

Was thinking of the same thing :) I do it all the time and it works great!

The real difference between 2D and 3D operations was very helpful. Now I know how to use 2D ones properly by explicitly specifying the model geometries it needs. Thanks.

Another excellent video. I really like the fly by the seat of the pants approach because you encounter problems along the way and we learn a lot watching you explain how you get around them. - this is actually far better than a rehearsed presentation where everything just works perfectly.

Another cool video from John ,
I am not an expert in Fusion like you . I have been doing lots of CAM for some of my customers recently . And when it comes to fixture collision what I actually do is ... I add those fixture bodies under the model section in the setup creation itself not in the fixture section ... And for the Stock - I choose fixed size box and I would input the stock size manually ... And in this case when you add a stock to leave value in either adaptive or pocket clearning , there wont be any contact with your fixtures and the clearance of the tool and the fixture will be your stock to leave value .. .Try this ... It has worked fine for me ..

3:35 Adding fixtures to the setup didn't work for me, only adding bodies to the 'model' of the operation works (adaptive clearing). Kinda sucks that I will have to add the bodies to every operation over and over.

After trimming set your partial arc to be co radial and concentric with the model. Any changes will carry through to the sketch. It will also lock the arc in place without having to use the fixed constraint.

To prevent it from machining cavities, set the "Minimum Ramp Diameter" AND "Helical Ramp Diameter" to a number greater than the feature. So for example if the cavity you want it to ignore is a 2" bore, set the minimums to a 3" bore and it has no choice but to ignore that feature. This works in Inventor HSM -- hopefully Fusion has the same selectors.

That request to cut projected curve is still not implemented. I like Fusion, and even if I know I've get used to SolidWorks, I still think it is much fester for CAD

Could you use this and add tabs to do trochoidal milling around a part? I need to mill out a part which I’m trying to get away from slotting and using trochoidal milling but leave a tab so the part don’t come loose????

You don't have to break link to projection. You can select the contours containing the lines you want, open them, select other lines that you want until you effectively close the contour then press the close contour button.

Fusion cam doesn't seem very smart when it come to part and fixture awareness.

It's not the best in the world. It takes ALOT of trial and error to get a good result. I thought they would have improved this by now, but alas, they have not.

For the unwanted bore could you just put a patch on top?

Use "break" from sketch menu, not "trim" to split the circle up??

    • @qcnck2776
      @qcnck2776 6 років тому

Yes, it won't let him trim a projected circle. That is why the link needed to be broken.

can't you just limit the depth of cut to be above the clamps, then flip your part to finish it out.

so hard make simple part on cam. why is it? mill this part and it cut something else or even thru part. model is there. tool never should go inside model. it should never go thru any if they on screen..while you draing that model i allready type g/code on machine. i allready know everything if there is drawing lol
