    one of the highlights of the day. Seeing the two Austrian Eurofighters simulating attack moves was a great display as well. The sound and feeling from these jets when they light the afterburn doesn't come across on video. The F18 hornet was the same as well. RIAT didn't disappoint.

      @@tombo3145 as you looked at the runway I was to the left of the Cotswold club, farthest to the left of the viewing area that you could be. The Typhoon banked right above my head; that plane is by far one of my most favourite. Was really disappointed with the f35 display, they really should have mentioned in the display guide that it was only going to be a fly past, was really disappointed with that, even more so because there wasn’t an f22 there. I am desperate to see what a fifth gen fighters flight characteristics are like up close and personal. The Koreans put on a decent display too. Was particularly impressed with the ying Yang that they did!!

    I always imagine that an RAF Typhoon display pilot is very happy to see a bit of high cloud as he starts his
    display so that he can go vertical and disappear into it at the end. Its great to see.

    Thanks for sharing an excellent video as usual Elwyn. The cloud cover enabled a superb display of what the Typhoon is capable of. I love these low, high power tight displays. You can really see the pilots skills, and the aircrafts capabilities. Especially loved the "Vanish into the cloud" end to the display 😍

    The most agile fighter in the world. It and the French Raphael fighter are possibly the worlds best dogfighters. What they lack in stealth they make up for in weaponry and performance. One of the highest power to weight performances there is on any fighter meaning one of the fastest climb rates. That, combined with high G ultra tight turns makes this one aircraft the enemy doesn’t want to cone across in any dogfight.

    • @ReferenceFidelityComponents
      @ReferenceFidelityComponents Рік тому +5

      @Craig what a load of old twaddle! The typhoon is a far more modern design and does what it is designed to in modern warfare. The F15 is undeniably a good fighter but on agility it is no match for a typhoon. The reason it has the number of kills is down to its length of service but there are many old piston engined fighters with more kills! The F15 was undeniably ahead of its time and still relevant today. It may be a better multi role aircraft but a better dog fighter? No. By design it can’t turn as fast nir has the same rate of climb. It’s outclassed as a dogfighter by the F22, the F35 and the Typhoon. In terms of value for money, one of the most popular and under rated fighters has to be the F16.

    I love the way these vids always get the 'which jet is best argument', reality is you will never know as it's battlefield performance will be tied into so many other aspects and system integrations... it's simply not about a particular plane. Plus typhoons role is primarily interception... and in that I think it is actually quite quick and the outcome is probably more to do with the weapons systems. Always impresses me how the front canards pull the aircraft into the turn, where with conventional designs the back of the aircraft always seems to have to drop first to initiated the movement. The inherent instability makes this thing very maneuverable for sure.

    • @HighFlyer6969

      typhoon isn't a pure interceptor nor primarily one ,it was built in mind for being agile ,quick and light, it's a multi role aircraft ,a pure interceptor or pure cas aircraft would be the tornado as it was quicker than most aircraft and had quite a big payload for what it was

    Good manoeuvrability and but still inferior to the French Dassault Rafale.
    The French have the best jet in the world with the American F-22.
    Typhoon is just very very slighty superior to the Rafale about air interception ( Typhoon is made for that, let's say it gets a 10 out of 10 , Rafale just gets a 9.5 out of 10) while the Rafale wipes the floor with the Typhoon about everything else : Rafale is the only OMNI ROLE (not multi role but truly omni role) in the world and it does everything at the highest level of excellence imaginable :
    -Air-defense / air-superiority,
    -Anti-Access/Aera Denial,
    -Reconnaissance,
    -Close air support,
    -Dynamic Targeting,
    -Dog fight,
    -Air-to-ground precision strike / interdiction
    -Deep strike mission
    -Anti-ship attacks,
    -Nuclear deterrence (the Rafale can carry nuclear weapons, the French have a squadron of 20 Rafales whose it is the role, the Typhoon isn't made for that)
    - etc... etc... etc...
    Due to its constant upgrades, the Rafale is now widely considered as a "4.9th generation" aircraft.
    I am very pleased that Germany and France already are working together to develop the next jet because the French really know a lot about designing and building top stuff. German engineers working on the project even said they prefer to let the French do the job.
    Sad for Britain that they have chosen the F-35 aka the Flying Turd only for political reasons and please the USA. Big mistake. Insane maintenance and operating costs and the jet simply doesn't deliver what it is supposed to. American officers said off the record that it is not bad but certainly not as good as it should be..... So it is a scam, given its price. Will never be as good as the F-22 Raptor.

    • @hb1338
      @hb1338 Рік тому +1

      If you knew as much detail as you claim, you would not be on UA-cam. There is also a difference between preference and fact.
      It may interest you to know that the UK is very likely to cancel the second tranche of F35 aircraft, and will opt instead for the Tempest. This will mean that all our F35s will be shipborne, in which field there is no other aircraft that can match its capabilities. Go figure.

    • @stevesmitherman2981
      @stevesmitherman2981 Рік тому

      Im sorry but you are talking utter nonsense
      Its not just the aircraft but the weaponry.
      During the Libya campaign the French couldn't drop anything in bad weather with their Rafales, whilst the RAF could bomb day and night in all weather in the Typhoon.
      The Royal Navy along with the US Navy are the only nations operating 5th gen aircraft at sea, and the fact you call the F35 a flying turd shows you no nothing about this subject matter.
      I also point out that the Typhoon beat the F22 at Red Flag a few years ago, so although its an incredible aircraft its also down to the training of the crews.
      Note the Rafale is a typhoon in all but name, the French took the plans after being a partner and arguing about work share!
      The fact you mention about the French superiority in aircraft military aircraft proves again you are out of your depth. Dassault makes great aircraft, but The US and UK are the global leaders by far in military tech, and German tech also does not come close, despite what your media tells you.
      We are more than happy to be working with the Americans and proud to do so.
      All the Europeans are good at is letting the Anglos fight their wars, while they squabble over workshare.
      But don't worry, you keep criticising whilst you fly your outdated tornadoes and typhoons if you haven't mothballed your entire fleet by now.
      Nuclear deterrence also is a rubbish point, we have a submarine based deterrent and typhoon was never designed or intended for that role! (but of course you knew that) and yes the RN subs are the biggest and most advanced in Europe so save your next post.
      Its fine to have opinions, but don't just rant with zero facts.
      Besides, History shows whenever France or Germany come up against UK/US military tech, its generally a whipping game.
      Check your history books :)

      @@stevesmitherman2981 Absurd comment
      * I know for a fact that it was the Americans and the French that did all the job in the Lybia campaign. I am an ex officer in the German navy, my American contacts told me so and added that everybody (including the Brits) was absolutely impressed with the Rafale and with the French pilots did.
      *It was also American friends (U.S air force) who confirmed the F-35 just doesn't deliver what it is supposed to. It's an open secret, actually. Everybody knows it. You are totally deluded if you think otherwise.
      *"the Rafale is a typhoon in all but name, the French took the plans after being a partner and arguing about work share!" = that's a lie. Just a pathetic one.
      The French left the project at the early stages, simply because they strongly disagreed with the British side. They wanted an omni role fighter (not a multi role one but omni), capable to embark nuclear weapons AND to launch from an aircraft carrier. The British had other priorities at that time.
      It's also well known that the British tried to play the French into basically asking them to design most of the jet, and the Brits hoped the reap the rewards . The French didn't appreciate the British approach and that was another reason why they left.
      *"we have submarine based nuclear deterrent" : so do the French (and being ex navy officer, I know you trash talk French nuclear subs -as you know , France operates nuclear subs since 1967) and their subs are NOT inferior to yours. And they have something you don't : a squadron of 25 Rafale jets with nuclear war heads. Britain doesn't have that.
      *I'd like to add one more thing : my American friends made clear that the British very often do as the Americans tell them to, then poor Brits gaslight themselves, reassure themselves claiming they are on same level as the Americans and their tech, and that they co operate 50-50. You are only fooling yourselves, quite frankly. Everybody knows you are just America's old lapdog, the Americans call the shots and always will. You profit from their tech, mostly. But they just give you the left over. And in the USA, just for the record, no one ever mentions the "Special Relationship". It exists only in your head. The USA use you anytime they need you, and you just say "yes" to them. Period.
      I believe your post shows the utter delusional British syndrome : this grotesque, petty attitude of yours where you constantly want to believe you are much more important than what you truly are. That's the story of the mouse (the Brits) and the elephant (the Americans) running through the desert , and the mouse tells the elephant : "boah , look at the dust we make!".... Such delusional attitude, so British... European officers (and even the Americans) laugh at you behind your back.
      The Brits betrayed France about the submarines (your clown Johnson plotted for months behind France's back, pushing the Australians to break the contract) and you guys tried the very same pathetic tactic about India and its purchase of Rafales (Johnson never accepted that India chose the Rafale over your Typhoon). Narendra Modi, India PM, told so to Macron and showed him documents and communications from the Brits, pushing India to break the contract , but Modri remained firm, informed the French. The Brits trash talk the French because deep down, you are just jealous of them and you can't accept that the French win fair and square huge contracts, thanks top notch miltary tech. You trash talk competition, but never the Americans because you know how much you need them -and you are just their tired poodle. You will always comply to what they tell you to do.
      *As you mention German military history , let me refresh your mind : I read Churchill letters to Roosevelt, BEGGING him to declare war on us. Because 1 on 1, we threw you at sea at Dunkirk, in Crete , in Dieppe, and in Normandy, in multiple areas, you never UNCAPABLE of breaking our boys, despite air superiority, and you had to resort to call to the rescue the Americans. I know , I spoke to so many U.S veterans. I checked the facts, read about the battles.
      Without the Americans by your side, you would have never won anything against us. Not in a million year, as you love to put it. Read what U.S generals Patton and Wilson said about the British.
      That's why you still now totally submit yourselves to the Americans. And you will always do it. You are their poodle, it's just a fact of life. You have no idea what some U.S officers told me about the Brits. Trust me, you don't want to know.
      You constantly, constantly put a spin on things, events to make yourselves look the best. You are not. Period.
      Many people know that and say it.
      Even Waterloo, it was 3 nations (England, the Netherlands, and Prussia) on 1 (France) and the English were on the ropes before Blücher came up to your rescue with 45.000 Prussian boys. They saved your sorry a s s then you claim victory. Pathetic. And it no longer was Napoleon's Great Army. When he was at his peak, you didn't dare to set foot on the continent. You patiently waited to build a coalition. Without friends, you are nothing. You struggled to defeat Argentina. If tomorrow, Russia declared war on Britain, you would run behind America's back and would beg them to assist you.
      The world knows the truth about you. Keep gaslighting yourselves. Poor little Brits.
      You accuse me of posting rants , 0 fact , I would accuse of something worse : you just lie and twist facts to make your silly points. A quintessentially British attitude. People in the know, I mean : people who REALLY are in the know would always choose the Rafale over the Typhoon. But you are free to carry on with the gaslight work, you are so good at it.

      I can’t stop laughing 😂
      I’ll keep my reply brief. There were no Americans in Libya at first, it was an Anglo French operation followed by the Americans who provided a massive contribution from their navy carriers.
      The Astute submarine is with the American Virginia class the 2 best in the world. The size and range of the French subs in inferior.
      I’m not going to be rude, but the way you rant on here says you are a keyboard soldier and has no idea what you are saying.
      If you want to call a few small boats in Germany a navy then fine, but don’t make the mistake with your disdain for others cloud the facts.
      The reason there is the AUKUS arrangement is purely because the Anglosphere realises the dangers in the world and as usual Germany sits back talks a lot and contributes nothing.
      Just look at Ukraine! Germany does nothing, and is still buying gas from Putin!
      The French to their credit have provided equipment, but the training and other equipment and support is the U.K. US Poland Norway etc
      Stick to the facts and not your hatred for other countries which is blatantly obvious.

    While the Typhoon is a pretty impressive plane I thought the F16 and F18 displays were better. Incredible when you consider the age of those two planes too.
    And as for the Black Jack colour scheme. Truly hideous. Black does not work well against a bright sky and the politicians obviously decided it had to have those awful looking Union Flags on every flying surface.

  • @BruceHoult
    @BruceHoult Рік тому

    Somehow, rolls on the Typhoon are uglier than on just about anything else. It seems like the roll axis isn't anything like the fuselage, but something like a line between the nose and halfway up the fin, with the ass wiggling all over the place. You don't get that with the F16 or F18 or any other display aircraft I can think of.

    • @jash2622
      @jash2622 Рік тому

      It's likely an inherent characteristic of the Typhoons long-arm canard design (canards far forward from the CoG) that is beyond the ability for the fly-by-wire computers to correct. All designs are tradeoffs remember - the canard arrangement on the Typhoon is optimised for high altitude and high speed aka the interceptor role, which was the original design requirement.

    • @hb1338
      @hb1338 Рік тому

      @@jash2622 You are right that the aerodynamic roll axis is displaced a long way from the mechanical roll axis. That is by design and has to do with stability and manoeuvrability, and is not influenced by the capability of the processors which control the canards.

    • @jash2622
      @jash2622 Рік тому

      @@hb1338 Interesting! Comparing the Typhoon with the Rafale/Gripen which seem to have both roll axes aligned more than the Typhoon, is this just a fundamental feature of long-arm canard vs close coupled canard design to maximise the manoeuverability for each configuration?
