Question for Luke: Why don't the failing cable networks like the MTV sub channels just change their programming from lousy reality shows and go back to it's roots of music videos?
Because it's all on UA-cam, so why would people who don't care about sports pay to watch music videos on a service like UA-cam TV, or traditional cable when you can get it for free, or a much lower cost without the ads?
The rise of UA-cam killed MTV and other music channels. If you want to watch music videos you can use VEVO's streaming service. They have multiple channels for different genres of music. Look at the video above and its behind Luke at about the middle of the screen.
Colin Cowherd (of _The Herd with Colin Cowherd_ radio show) predicted everything will go streaming except for live sports, news and certain live entertainment events. And even live sports is heavily going streaming, especially with rumors about ESPN offering their own standalone streaming service as early as 2025.
Just added the military discount to receive Peacock Premium. Thanks for the information. It will be fun to watch all the Olympics coverage this summer!
When Boomerang first started they would air old school Saturday morning cartoons and even though at the time I was in my mid to late 20's every so often I would have it on as I was doing other things because it brought a little nostalgia from my childhood. However by the early 00's they stopped airing those then I stopped even looking for the network. I'm not saying that they have to air these old school cartoons during primetime however seeing as how Time Warner owns the Hanna Barberra catalog I wish they would set times to air some of those old school cartoons and not just the ones from the 90's or later. I'll also add that while I don't think they are going away I would like for the History Channel and A&E to either change their names or live up to the names of their networks. The History Channel hasn't been about actual history in well over a decade and A&E has stopped doing anything art related even longer than that.
They are established brand names, that is why they use them. Let's face it there really isn't money to be made in showing history documentaries, so that's why that content went away. It cost them more to produce than they ever made on the back end. As for the cartoons, I liken that to oldies radio stations. When I was younger oldies meant 40's, 50's and 60's. By the time I was an adult 70's and 80's were oldies. Oldies today, well pretty much anything before 2000. As your audience shifts, and ages the definitions of the categories change. Cartoons are just so vastly different today, that I think most of the younger generation can't really relate to the ones from 30, 40, 50 years ago
@@greyeagle4388 It is a complete misconception that there isn't money to be made on producing actual history programming. History channels on UA-cam is one of the biggest genres of channels that you can find on UA-cam. Also, some of the biggest movies that come out of Holywood are based on historic figures or events. The same is true with streaming services, especially Apple TV having two hits in Manhunt and Masters of the Air. Band of Brothers is still one of the most watched mini series on HBO, that came out 23 years ago and Netflix just paid a HUGE rights fee to air that and The Pacific. It makes perfect sense. Cable networks have been moving away from producing original programming since the studios started launching and prioritizing streaming services. And the few networks that still make original programming make it available via streaming with no live tv or cable package required. So most cable networks are just a constant stream of reruns and old content and there a multiple free streaming services that provide all content anyway. With the cost of live tv streams being almost as expensive as cable these days, most people recognize it’s just as bad a deal as cable. Especially now that the sports content that was the major reason people who subscribed to live tv streaming did so is moving onto streaming on demand services. I really don’t get why anyone subs to a live tv service at this point
Question for Luke: will METV make affiliates of there over the air channel carry METV toons at launch and will the my networks TV finally die this year, as our METV affiliate shares with metv
Luke thank you for your wife’s service. I have do have a question. I have the Boomerang app that has all the shows. Is it possible that it will just go to the app? I think Max owns the parent company but Max doesn’t have all of the cartoons. I had cancelled the subscription until I saw like with Discovery, they don’t have all the same content.
SpaceX alone, arguably Musk's most successful venture, has received more than $15.3 billion worth of government contracts since 2003, most of which is from NASA. But it also continues to earn quite a bit from the Department of Defense; Reuters reported last month that SpaceX, as part of a staggering $1.8 billion contract signed with the DoD in 2021, was building a spy satellite network for a US intelligence agency.
They're not going to get rid of any of those channels channels that are owned by Networks because they're offered in bundles they get paid regardless if anyone watches the channels or not
Love your content.... Can you tell me what you know about a channel that I just found... TRU BLU.. I found it on my Roku app. I has Chris Hansen doing his "To catch a Predator" thing. How long has it been around? Is it "comfortably funded"? (I'd hate to get emotionally involved with it and it end up on your list of channels that will soon be closing down). Where are the "headquarters"?
Trublu most likely will survive for quite sometime to come. From what I understand they also have a subscription service you can subscribe to for unlimited on demand streaming. With the popularity of true crime content, this one seems to be hitting all the right notes.
I have a question, Luke, Could more professional sports teams leaving Bally Sports because their contract has recently expired for free TV and streaming service?
