- A convoy of tipper trucks converged on Parliament House in Victoria bringing parts of the city and adjoining freeways to a standstill as the group protested against the government's lack of interest in implementing a fuel levy to ease the pressures being put on tipper business operators and their families by the high price of diesel.
An excerpt from their call-out to protest reads:
"We can no longer be expected to shoulder the extremely high price of diesel all on our own. It's already unprofitable to run a tipper and we know the price of diesel will rise by 22 cents per litre on the first of September. Plant hire companies and clients must start paying a fuel levy to help us cover these costs."

Politicians don't care because they get paid a min of $120k a year, free public transport and expense reimbursements the average person doesn't even know exists. They care about their profile-that's it. Same goes for gov employees, they are well kept and feel the impact last so don't expect support from them.

I sincerely hope and pray things will improve, this is so wrong that we have to keep protesting about so many things, we vote for the govt to do the work for us to live better, not worse.

Back then, no one trusted gov and wanted nothing to do with them. Now, no one trusts gov but feeds of their handouts: be that the pension, family tax benefits (That's where you give gov $100 and they give you back $40 & be happy about it) or a wage. No one is willing to go without, be uncomfortable or ignore gov in order to prove the people have the power... so we don't. I just checked online, it says the average price of Diesel in Australia on 18th July is 2.32 AUD/litre, in the UK it is almost 3.47 AUD/litre, but I haven't heard of any protests in the UK. Either people don't protest in the UK anymore, or the media doesn't cover it
