Hey now - there's only one person who sat down, answered your mock paper, and got you a 9 in AIC, and that's you! Hopefully the resources I mention in the video will support you in some way, but you've got to believe in yourself too - you clearly have the skills needed for success!! 👊
This is a great post, thank you. I would like to mention a great book by Mark Rose, written many years ago, entitled Shakespearean Design. Discovering it and reading it as an undergraduate was a watershed moment for me. There is a fantastic discussion of the design of MacBeth, and I believe Rose even suggests the first three acts or so may been written at a single sitting, because of the tightly interlocking structure of the scenes and the language. God, there is just nothing like Shakespeare in our world today, the perfect marriage of so many elements.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I've just searched for Rose's book, and I agree that it certainly sounds like a fascinating resource! At least we still have so much of Shakespeare's work surviving today! 😁
i think your videos are great and the best i’ve ever found! they are so well organised and just amazing! i was wondering now that you’ve started macbeth could you post a context video? i have an important mock coming up and am struggling to find good and interesting resources for context. thank you i really appreciate everything you’ve done
Hello! Thanks for such a kind comment. Sadly, this video isn't me starting Macbeth; it's more of a 'I'm not doing Macbeth this year, but here are some good places to have a look if you want help with Macbeth' sort of video! There's bound to be some really helpful contextual info on the resources I mention in this video, though. If you're pushed for time, I expect No Fear Shakespeare will be a good place to look 😊
hey sir i am so sorry but ive got my exam in literally less than a week and i am really struggling with one quote as follows: I HAVE NO SPUR TO PICK THE SIDES OF MY INTENT, BUT ONLY VAULTING AMBITION, WHICH O'ERLEAPS ITSELF AND FALLS ON THE OTHER it would be really helpful if u help me with this one thankyou very much
@@DystopiaJunkie umm i mean how is this quote significant in relation to the theme of ambition plus the basic explanation of this quote in easy wording as i don't even get what this quote means in the first place
Okay, so an explanation of the quotation would be: 'I have no spur to p(r)ick the sides of my intent' = I have nothing to motivate me to carry out my plan (killing Duncan). 'But only vaulting ambition' = Apart from ambition itself, which he compares to a horse jumping over a high hurdle ('vaulting') 'Which o'erleaps itself and falls on the other' = My ambition / the horse will jump too far and fall over once it has reached the other side (or achieved its aim). So it's a tricky quotation because Macbeth uses a metaphor to describe his ambition as being powerful - but perhaps too powerful, as it will lead to him 'falling'.
With the theme of ambition in mind, this quotation is useful because it shows us how powerful Macbeth's ambition is (it is his greatest motivator). It also reveals that ambition is Macbeth's fatal flaw, because it will lead to his downfall ('falls'). Because of that, you could say that this quotation foreshadows the end of the play because once Macbeth becomes the king, everything starts to go badly for him!
NOO I REALLY NEEDED MACBETH ANALYSIS FROM YOU😭

@@DystopiaJunkie Yes, imagine having 38 or so full plays by Sophocles or Aeschylus.
