    For the eggs: 4 minus 1,5 is only 2,5 not 3,5. :)
Also: tried loose coffee instead of the pods?

Aw, rats! Hopefully this is my only major math dud... Loose coffee could be a great middle-ground option! (No pun intended…)

We use a coffee pot and estimated it costs 50 per pot. Still not as cheap as tea but much better than pods and MUCH LESS garbage. Even when store eggs were cheaper, the fresh eggs from free range chickens are SO MUCH BETTER.

Fresh Eggs t' cost it's a little high. I have 5 hens. But, I do have eggs & I've seen no eggs or very few at t' store. Prices have gone up. Meats I buy pork, chicken liver, chicken, tuna, ground turkey & hot dogs for my dog - cats & chickens. I can't afford BEEF. I eat vegan most of t' time. In t' spring I'm thinking about a Feeder Piglet & Bee Hives. I only buy what I can afford. I don't have kids, I don't know what I'd do. It's just me & I'm 59yo. In t' spring I'm going to have a garden. I can a lot of food & will in t' future. Thank For You're Videos.

This is valuable information. If we stop and think before just automatically buying the same things, we can save a lot of money.
A video comparing name brands to generic or store brands is a great idea.
Also, people forget about needless, daily expenses like high end, take-out coffee and going out to lunch rather than packing a lunch.
    Thanks for the video!

I couldn't agree more. I eat eggs and chicken meat from my chickens, lamb from my sheep (dogs get the scraps) and vegies from my garden. I know its not possible for everyone on that scale, but bravo you for posting this. I have found that abandoning brand-loyalties and using no-name brands makes for a remarkable saving.

Have you ever tried the reusable mesh cups that fit in coffee makers like k-cups. We switched out last year when I found out that coffee grounds can be used as a source of fertilizer….So it’s a triple win for us…less plastic in the land fills, cheaper & essentially free fertilizer!

One thing I do know is how to save money in the coffee arena- Brew your coffee either in an electric maker or pour over or even French press (the best flavor)- K-cups are ridiculously expensive and nothing is better than a freshly ground, brewed cuppa!! A while back to save a little money on coffee, I just got a smaller coffee machine- When I started consistently making more than one pot, I figured I didn't need to worry about that savings any more 😄

yeah.. DON"T mess with people's COFFEE !! .. lol . THERE are MUCH easier ways to deal with coffee to make it cheaper than your 3 pods.. 1. DON'T BUY PODS. .they are the MOST expensive coffee .. 2.. DON'T buy Coffee Grounds... 3 BUY COFFEE BEANS (IF you can't grow your own ) .. and grind them up.. that is the CHEAPEST way to buy coffee IMO.. cuz I used pods.. went thru coffee and Noticed the beans were Less expensive for the same amount of grounds.. so bought a grinder.. and in the process of growing my own coffee beans soon !!! ..

I love the idea of rags instead of paper towels for many reasons, not just economic although certainly that too. Chickens are a great add, even though they wouldn't save me that much personally as I don't eat many eggs, but they would lower my stress level which is invaluable right?! ;-) If you get decent tea instead of cheap Lipton you're looking at more like .50 per cup. I don't know how that matches up to coffee as I'm not a coffee drinker, but I'm also not a Lipton fan when there are so many more awesome tea's out there.

I hacw Bunn coffee pot, I'm a tea drinker. 3 teabags in the pot gives me good consistency tea. A full pot can last me 2 days. A recipe calls for 28 crushed tomatoes and 8 oz sauce. Substitute 8 oz (one cup) water for the 8 oz sauce. You won't tell the difference. Recipe calls for milk, most of the time (with the exception of creamed soup) water works just as well, and you can't tell.

It is an older video and maybe somebody mentioned it before, but you could go completely "for free" with tea, because you could make your own from plants you grow yourself or forage. I'm a coffee girl so don't ask me for advice but there are SO MANY videos and books on growing you own tea herbs and leaves (fermented blackberries or raspberrie og currant leaves, for example are supposed to taste very similiar to "regular" black tea.

Sorry...hard pass on giving up coffee. The Keurig cups are incredibly inefficient and not at all economical. Some say unhealthy byproducts leech out from the plastic cups. You can still drink coffee but try buying one of those old fashioned electric percolators off Ebay for $40. Our coffee bill is roughly $15/mo. We use our vintage 60s Westinghouse percolator every morning. You don't need filters and every pot tastes like the best Diner coffee. 1/3 cup of ground coffee makes 10 cups. You can save money on those expensive creamers by making your own. We buy half & Half and put hazlenut syrup in it.

I think I'd give up indoor plumbing before I gave up coffee! Good call on the meat/vegetarian option though. I only cook with meat I've hunted, and eat vegetarian multiple times a week. I balk every time I take a look in the meat isle and see the crazy prices. Plus it's all factory farmed junk! Saves a ton of money.

My husband won't give up coffee either. But we used to have a Keurig and we ended up getting a reusable pod that you could use any ground coffee in. Granted this was an older Keurig, and I hear the new ones are a lot more finicky. Nowadays we just use a French press, which makes just enough coffee for two of us. It's slightly more work than just tossing a Keurig pod into a machine, but it's cheaper and tastes a lot better.

If you have a local co-op or farmers market that sells bulk foods, there's a chance they will let you bring in your own container (e.g. if you store dry beans or rice in a jar, bring in an empty jar) have the cashier weigh it, then go get your food item. They can adjust for the weight difference when you check out. Totally reusable. Nothing to throw away.

Good way to cut out bread cost, go keto, it's hard at first but once you're in it you'll be amazed at how easy it can be. Yes, rags will cut down on paper towels and the waste going into the trash. Backyard chickens for eggs is always great. Make your own compost with yard waste, kitchen scraps for your gardens. The grocery store should be supplemental if you think about how we use to live before every site shipping things to your door or car.
