BG Music:
In 1970 I was 22 and loved dancing to this and at 73 this still makes me move what good memories 😊 Thank you 😊
Me too. 22 and finishing out my last year in the Navy.
Those were the days huh? We thought they’d never end
@@ptrlxc That's a line from another great song. "Those were the Days", 1968 Mary Hopkin. Yes, 22 seems like just yesterday.
I was five.
I was 10 years old when I would hear it on the radio and I loved it. I wish they would've played this long version.
Brad's emotionless dead stare is unnerving.
Ha
😆
I really like Lex's "interpretations"! Sometimes they are so "out of the box" yet they make sense after she explains them!
I like them because they occasionally make me look at a song I've known for decades in a different way.
@@Davtheimpaler Exactly!👍🏻
Now you have to do Sugarloaf's classic song "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You"
That's a great song you never hear anymore!
As a former phone tech, I love that song!
So glad you did the album version. Radio edit was just....neutered. Rhythm guitar in this is just sublime.
We used to call them the "FM version" and the "AM version."
I’ve heard this a thousand times and I don’t remember this fm version. Oh course, I was about 12, so likely missed it.
"I mean you! EVERY time." -- priceless Brad observation
One of the greatest Hammond B3/Leslie rotating speaker performances ever recorded. Masterful!
Brad & Lex, you'd like their other top 10 hit "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You"!
For sure. I personally feel it's a way better song than Green Eyed Lady.
I have to disagree that "Don't Call Us" is better than "Green-Eyed Lady". It's a good song but it's on a different tier from this song.
The arrangement is crazy. I like how the bass is out front and then fades to the back and then once again comes forward through the journey of the song.
The musicianship of these guys is incredible.
Glad you did the long version. Thank you.
The long version!!! Still kills 50 yrs on...I was 12yrs old in 1970...6th grade at Assumption Catholic School...our History teacher, Sister Helen was about 30 yrs old and loved groovin' to this song...
Lead vocal and keyboardist Jerry Corbetta. Had another top 10 hit, "Don't Call us, We'll Call You"!
You have to watch to see what Lex's interpretation will be....Priceless.
Classic tune. The solos on this thing always blew me away.
I was 12 in 70. Remembering hearing it on the radio. Later when I discovered FM radio was the first time I heard the extended version. The art of the intro, solos around. Great choice. Be well you two>
🙏💖
Nice jam! Dude on keyboards was killing it
This song cooks so hard and it is so fun to dance to, try it! This song is so well composed and put together like a really cool jigsaw puzzle and it just totally grooves and that organ kills it, and the organ solo in the middle is just so good. As others have said, their other big hit, Don't call us we'll call you, is likewise just top notch musicianship but it's more light-hearted and a pretty sarcastic and funny take on how the record industry worked at the time. They even do a nod to the Beatles at some point in it.
Yes with the strobe light magic!
@@gillesmorin9439 Ha!
Who is the green-eyed lady? According to lead singer Jerry Corbetta, it was his girlfriend at the time, Kathy, who is bandmates referred to as the green-eyed lady. He wrote the song with producer J.C. Phillips and a songwriter named David Riordan.
Since "Green-Eyed Lady" gets almost daily play on US radio stations to this day and none of their other songs do, many will be surprised to know that Sugarloaf is not a one-hit wonder; their other hit is "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" from 1975 at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Green-Eyed Lady," at #3, is their best-known (and somewhat overplayed) single.
One of the reasons that the hook is so catchy is that it's based on a piece of a scale exercise that frontman Jerry Corbetta found in a book.
The band was originally called "Chocolate Hair" but after getting signed to a record label, they had to change their name because managers were nervous about the potentially racist interpretation of that name (that and the name would have permanently branded them as '60s psychedelics). They chose "Sugarloaf" after a local Colorado ski resort.
Jerry Corbetta played the organ solo on this track in addition to singing lead. He played it in the style of jazz musician Jimmy Smith, his idol.
(Songfacts.com)
They should check out Jimmy’s ‘Root Down (and get it)’
Aloha, Love this song...glad you played the whole song...back in a.m. radio days often times it was shortened...a hui hou
KJR-AM in Seattle used to play it every morning.
The Intro, the Mid Riff and Outro. And Witty , Hippie Lex bobbing to the vibes , thanks Brad and Lex, you guys rock. Don't Call Us We'll Call You by them.
😎good old song ! never get tired of !
One of my favorite bass lines ever! Love this song!
"and they do all this animal stuff....." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You just HAVE to love Lex's interpretations! So glad you did the album version.
I might if I could even kind of understand them
This song always brings up memories of K-Tel record compilations. How they put 24 songs on a vinyl LP (no CD's then) instead of the more usual 8 - 10 was a mystery to my teenaged brain. Great track, I think my brother still has the LP.
K-Tel was a legit company, but the quality of those records wasn't very good for that exact reason, squeezing too many songs on there. The other comp label, Adam VIII Limited, was run by Morris Levy, the organized crime figure that ran Buddha and Roulette Records. He would cannibalize his own artists sales and then not pay them anyway.
@@ericredlefsen5554 K-Tel was able to put all those songs on one album because they were edited heavily-2 or 3 verses would be missing with quick fadeouts.
@@ericredlefsen5554 but at least his compilations weren't heavily edited like K-Tel.
@@gpxo11 Yes! Very true.
@@gpxo11 Also true, good point.
This song came out in 1970 when I was about 6 yo. I remember that I was crazy about it and my parents bought me the 45 single to jam on at the house :)
huh, I always pictured this as slightly older than that. Ah well, what do I know, lol, I wasn't born until '71
Wow, that's cool, I was 5 at the time and I also kinda' dug it!🤘
finally, one of the most iconic bass riffs ever
BOY did the 70s have 100s OF ICONIC RIFFS
I will picture a fox on a cliff every time I hear this song for the rest of my life 😂 I love it ❤ It actually makes perfect sense to me 😊
On my top 10 list forever. Tremendous musicianship
This band was a very good one back in the day! The drummer was from were I grew up in Denver and I had been dating my girl friend for a few years and he was her brother in-law and seen them 2 times live, One of them was they opened for Joe Walsh, We are talking way back when.
James Bond Meets Dr. Funk. This was all over the airwaves back in the day and still holds up today IMHO. Lex, you are just TOO adorable. Be well you two.
If you're ever the least bit uncertain as to the definition of "cool," just listen to this song. Glad you two finally got to it, and to the extended version at that.
I love this bass line
About the same time Green-Eyed Lady was released (1970) another song with a somewhat similar psychedelic vibe was 'Spill The Wine' by War featuring vocals by the incomparable Eric Burdon (of House of The Rising Sun fame).' Brad & Lex reacted to Spill the Wine about three months ago.
I wish they would've reacted to the live video version of Spill the Wine. So entertaining to see watch them perform it.
Haven't heard this in years. Good tune
Don't call us, we'll call you.......must listen!!!!
Thanks for playing the album cut! Haven't heard that in maybe 40 years!
From my junior High school 7th grade year.1969-70. Man...does this ever take me back!
Thank you
They were one of funky groups great live performances
Loved dancing to this in the bars in Itaewon.
Wait.....this is the first time Brad noticed that Lex uses the instrumental parts to drift into fantastical interpretations?
Yezzz indeed man. This band had the it baby!!!!!
LEX you would have been a FLOWER CHILD in those days 🙃🙏🏾🕊🌺
One of the greatest base lines ever produced. I could just listen to that part all day long.
Love the organ in this song, and the rhythm/lead guitar is so original, different than any other solos then or ever.
Lex has clearly watched many cartoons in her youth. Thanks for doing one of my favorite songs.
I love Lex's interpretation, a stalking fox looking for mate. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lex has quite an imagination, always interesting.
Brad's response too Lex's fox hunt analogy was hilarious. 😁
Heard this a million times, but first time I’ve ever this extended version
Always had mad respect for the drummer and the organ is top-shelf.
Watching Brad's face on Lex's shirt made my day. There were movements and facial expressions we never see from the man himself.
I thought the same thing! It looked like Brad was turning Japanese:)
Before he jumped .. Perhaps the fox should have asked Wyle E. Coyote if he could borrow his ACME Co. Boots 'n' Springs .. 😎
When Lex learns to play guitar, I can’t wait to hear her solos... “This one’s gonna sound like a turtle on his back who just figured out how to turn himself back over!” Fantastic!
🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious, right on. But as a long time at musician and a follower of this channel for a long time, I became convinced long ago that Lex would make a really great drummer or at least percussionist, which might be an easier thing to work on in your home. I'm serious, I just know it.
Yeah, but her analogies are always on target. She's a rare one.
@@yourebusted5786 oh yeah man absolutely. Very creative and kind of a lot the way I think. But just her innate sense of understanding the flow of the rhythm, you can just read it in her body language and facial expressions. She just really really gets it without even being all that aware of it I don't think.
@@stevedahlberg8680 I would just like to take a moment to appreciate the fact that Brad doesn't make Lex feel dumb even though he doesn't always get it. You can tell she feels free to express herself and I love that! 🥰
Hey guys what's up! Greetings from South florida! I was probably about 7 or 8 years old when I first heard this song. I actually got scared. A band I was in years ago used to play this song. It's got some really cool riffs in it. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
I loved this song since I was very young like 14 and still do such good musicians on that! Starting with Leslie West RIP!
Try Sugarloaf's single Don't Call Us We'll Call You. It's kinda hard to find it on vinyl.
Don’t call us child ……… We’ll call you 🔥
Wife here... Being born in 1974.., I grew up hearing this absolute 💎 gem of a song..My Mother Looooved it!!!..
Lex's imagination makes me laugh 🤣 so hard! Great reaction, folks! ❤👏
The Bass line and the Keyboard solo are the most significant parts on this song. Another great tune from Sugarloaf is "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You",a comment on their experiences with the music industry. And a further fun song by them is "Clap For The Wolfman", as in Wolfman Jack, radio DJ supreme and original host of The Midnight Special in the 1970's.
Clap For The Wolfman was done by The Guess Who.
@@ronnelson7828 I keep getting that confused. My bad.
No worries. 👍
Wow! I haven't heard this version in decades. Thank your for reacting to this version. Love the T-shirt Lex! :)
“Maybe they were on drugs when they made it”. “No I mean you”
I died.
Green-eyed Lady is a metaphor for the Earth. It's a homage to the planet.
Yes, this is the extended version. it was to long for radio play, so they made a shorter version. ( less instrumental solo's )
You nailed it Brad it's a theme like James Bond mixed with magic mushrooms.
You two kill me. LMAO
I see y'all finally did this one! I've seen someone in the live streams requesting this forever.
Love Brad and Lex. I'm sill trying to figure out if Lex is an empath or an unrecognized musical genius. She is always right.
I was negative 18 years old when this song was released lol. Thank you parents for the early memories almost two decades after I was born ❤🤘
Lex is just incredible! She's just there feelin' the music, and it's a joy to watch.
I love the pictures from Lex's mind... Right every time!!! ;)
Imagine being a grade school kid and hearing this on AM radio in mono. Trimmed to three minutes... It was still wonderful!
Another excellent assessment by Lex
I have heard this song a thousand time but never on headphones.... such a difference and bad ass. 😎
I had this 45 record when I was a kid. This must be a long version because I don’t remember it being this long. ✌️❤️
Yep, the AM radio version was much shorter.
What in this screwed up world of today sounds as good as this 70s jam ?
Yeah.. I had the 45 too. This is the album version which is a few minutes longer..
I haven't heard this song in a long time...I didn't realize how funky it was listening to it back in the day...
When I hear this I imagine walking outside at like 4 in the morning and seeing a ring of midgets in sorcerer costumes dancing around a fire in the front yard.
It's cool you did this song. Would never of thought any reactor would have haha. always liked this one.
Ha! A couple of foxes, eh Lex?
I always thought it was a human male stalking an unattainable mermaid... "Green-eyed lady, ocean lady
Soothing every raging wave that comes..."
Thanks for posting this song. I had never heard this long version, only the short 2 minute version that they played on the radio. This is awesome, as it takes me back to my early teen years.
Oh how I remember this song! In 1970, at 6 years old it was this song and the news reports of Vietnam war on TV that I really remember from that time
Flashback: I'm holding my AM transistor radio with a fresh 9-volt battery listening to WRKO and tunes from the seventies. So glad you played this.
One of the best songs ever. Music from my life right here.
Lex is feeling it. Almost from the start. She wanted to get up off that couch. Looking all cute tryn to contain all that energy. Some songs just make your body move.
A Golden age for a lot of music.
You guys crack me up! Love you and your reactions.
Love the way lex interprets things
You both actually 'got' this one, perfectly
No one will believe me but my father managed this band for liberty records. The lyrics were written on a beach in Spain as the sun was setting and a beautiful green eyed lady walked by. He helped with the lyrics. Setting suns and lonely lovers free, child of nature friend of man. ☀️
I remember my brother having this as a Cassette and it was thrown on a shelf in our room...He never listened to it and it was all worn, caseless and dusty.....I would listen to it over and over and this song was my fave...I may of been like 8,9 or 10 years old but one of the earliest memories of my Bro's music.
I use to think Lex was buzzed when she would give her interpretation but I've come to realize that she's just so sweetly innocent. Wish the rest of the world could see through her eyes.
This is one of those songs that I've heard countless times and really like....but never could have told you the band!
This is one of my favs growing up
This was on the jukebox at our favorite bar/grill.
I played it nearly every visit.
I couldn’t click on this fast enough. Knew Lex was gonna love this one.
When this came out it was my idea of a perfectly put together song in every way. I mean, the lyrics (about Earth), the music, the ending. It was soooo...smoove and ballsy...
Colorado band named after Sugarloaf mountain
Van Halen - in their very early days before they were widely known - did a cover of this song...or maybe it was Don't Call Us We'll Call You...my memory isn't what it used to be
I always thought that Green Eyed Lady was a euphemism for planet earth.
I really enjoy Lex’s imagination!
Just got to love a great organ solo
