Forever the world's greatest frontman. No one captured an audience like Fred
@Coopiedoo0 Glad you got to see them with Fred. saw them in Detroit for The Game tour and then for the Hot Space tour. I think 80 and 82?
I wouldn't argue with that.
Its not even a contest with anyone, and theres been some great frontmen as we all know.
@@mrooney714 100%
@Coopiedoo0 I saw them in 80 in Atlanta. I've see n a lot of bands and artists, but no one topped Freddie.
Roger Taylor's voice gave such a kick to their music. He and Freddie worked so well together.
I reckon Roger could've outsung and outshone most other lead singers and frontmen (not Freddie, obvs)
@@callumbruce4154 To HIGH?
Especially towards the end when Freddie’s voice was failing.
Often complimenting Freddie. Very good voice, very good job.
He did this tune with Bowie it was great their voices compliment each other.
The thing about Queen: they were SO good that they always sounded SO much like their album recordings. Freddie was that good of a singer, and the rest of them were that good of musicians. So professional and they obviously wanted to give those who attended their concerts their money's worth!
Sometimes seeing a artist live is a let down because they sound so much worse live, but not Queen, man he could sing, and such a showman as well
Usually, I'm disappointed when a UA-camr reacts to a live performance because it's rarely any good. Queen are the exception because their concerts sound just as good as the album.
John Deacons bass lines are iconic...a true master of his craft.
The thread between John and Freddie can be heard, felt in their songs. That connected.
@@LMTino He also wrote some great tunes that Freddie was delighted to sing...
here's the performance with the camera on John for the whole song: ua-cam.com/video/bL8j3DC8M_g/v-deo.html
@@pmmerol seen that before, fantastic...
Warming up his voice ... Really just getting the audience completely engaged. Masterful.
I think it might be a combo of three things: warming up vocally, engaging with the crowd and simply Freddie having fun. My thoughts.😁
Freddie always loved that connection to the crowd, so did we! Listen hard and you can hear me, I was there that night. Best gig ever.
That is SO COOL mate!
Only Freddie could say “fuck you” to a crowd and have them laugh and cheer! He absolutely achieved his goal of being a legend!! ❤
Considered one of the best live performances of all time. Freddie had that crowd in the palm of his hand
When you get a crowd of fans this massive, you CANNOT disappoint them. That's why the group always gave their 110%.
Live Aid was Queen were live Aid that day. Absolutely love Queen. Rip Freddie Mercury
He had that entire audience totally mesmerized . Few in history could do that in such an uplifting way.
How many people can say to "F*&k you to the crowd and they would love him for it. lol
Freddie could command a crowd, from 1,000 to 100,000.
Saw them twice in the early eighties. The 2nd time they played this song, it was on the Hot Space album.
I don't know exactly how big the audience was that night. Wembley has a capacity of 90k, but depending on the event and how it is set up, not all seats may be available.
250,000 in Rio!
A collaboration with David Bowie, this is credited to "Queen with David Bowie" because the B-side of the single is Queen's "Soul Brother." It was recorded at an impromptu session in Montreaux, Switzerland in the summer of 1981.
According to Queen bass player John Deacon, Freddie Mercury did most of the songwriting on this, although everyone contributed. The lyrics deal with how pressure can destroy lives, but love can be the answer. The lyrics are characteristic of Mercury's songwriting.
Deacon however did come up with the iconic two-note bass riff, although it came very close to vanishing: according to Roger Taylor in the Days of our Lives documentary, Deacon came up with the riff, then the band went for pizza before coming back to continue rehearsals. Upon returning, Deacon had completely forgotten his idea! Luckily, Taylor eventually remembered how the bassline went.
Brian May recalled to Mojo magazine October 2008. "It was hard, because you had four very precocious boys and David, who was precocious enough for all of us. David took over the song lyrically. Looking back, it's a great song but it should have been mixed differently. Freddie and David had a fierce battle over that."
May adds to this feeling of the sessions being fairly strained in a further interview for the Days of our Lives documentary, where he notes that "suddenly you've got this other person inputting, inputting, inputting... he (David) had a vision in his head, and it's quite a difficult process and someone has to back off... and eventually I did back off, which is unusual for me."
(Songfacts.com)
I also read somewhere where the 2 singers agreed to not listen to each other while laying down the vocals, only sneaky Freddie crept into Bowies session and listened to what he did,. Freddie then lay down his track.
Freddie's never ending/soaring 'WHYYYYYYYY' on the bridge still gives me goosebumps. I remember where I was and from what radio station when I first heard this. Unreal track, two titans coming together and flexing creative muscle. Crazy John forgot the bassline.
Seen them in the RDS Ireland in 84, knew all the albums to date, unreal, Mercury was a sight to behold.
@@JosephHuntelvisnspiders Phoebe said, it was the other way around. That David snuck towards Freddie's studio and listened in.- It does not matter, it's a great piece of Queen history.☮
Brian later admitted he wasn't there when they mixed it.
Mack said Bowie was being pushy so he rang Freddie to come to the studio to help.
@@JosephHuntelvisnspiders
wrong way round!
Mack says on one of the documentaries that Freddie was surprised that Bowie gelled with what he did and Mack said well it's easy when you're listening, he'd spotted \bowie sneak in
Chills down my spine.....one of the greatest frontmen of all time. But never forget how brilliant everyone in Queen was, in the studio but especially live. One of the first bands I was really into as a cheeky 10 year old in the eighties.
The only band in which every member wrote at least one #1 hit single - amazing collection of talent, with Freddy like a blazing star out front.
@@dbradx I remember having this on VHS...ua-cam.com/video/Caj7BLo0HZ0/v-deo.html
Brian May in a recent interview stated people keep talking about what a great phenomenal frontman Freddie was but May kept talking about what a great vocalist Freddie was which is sometimes overshadowed by on stage theatrics. Queen was one of those rare bands that you could not categorise. They came out with pop classics and great rock tracks and also haunting poignant songs such as "These Are The Day's of Our Lives". All 4 members were great song writers too. One of the most original and unique bands in music history.
lol Felix The Cat. Loved that cartoon as a kid. Him and that nifty bag he always carried around with pretty much anything you would ever need inside.
"Can we give ourselves one more chance." Important and needed sentiments for today.
You now have to listen to the studio version. It is nice hearing both Freddie and David Bowie together.
They don't "have to" do anything.
@@adriantrusca1245 🫠
They actually did that one already.
@@brettkenschaft4239 Yeah, wasn't it obvious that they knew the song when Lex mentioned David Bowie not being on the stage with Freddie?
I wasn't expecting whatever just happened!
I don't know how many times I've seen this, I never welled up before!!!
I was a tiny bit low earlier, but when I clicked this link, I thought your kids will have exposure to such a great and diverse amount of music, and your obvious unadulterated enjoyment plastered the biggest smile on my face.
Thank you guys for being so damn authentic and as enjoyable to watch as the things you react to, you're treasures to behold!
I don't know that any other human in this world can interact and create that level of interaction with so many thousands of people the way Freddie could. What a beautiful moment of unity he created.
You should watch their complete Live Aid, concert.
It's unreal especially when you know Freddy's health at time
@@ronparsons8786 well live aid was in 1985 and Freddie wasn't diagnosed with aids until 1987 so I'm not sure what you mean by " çonsidering his health at the time "
You don’t have this in 2022,because talent is required to be this good 🤘🤘
So true. Much of today's 'talent' is manufactured to fit a quote of what people/record companies feel we should be listening to. Unlike back then real success had to be earned by grinding away and really perfecting your art.
Talent is present in all forms of music. Todays music is way different from Queens music then but remember this. When Queen created Bohemian Rhapsody, they were breaking barriers. Morphing Classic Rock with Opera. An unlikely marriage of two much different genres. And it worked so well and was performed so well it became one of the worlds most famous and recognizable songs of all time. Music is in a constant state of evolution. Todays sound is different from yesterdays and is different from tomorrows as well. There is brilliance in some of the rap songs I’m hearing. It’s not what I grew up with but in my mind all music is derivative. We all steal a little bit either consciously or subliminally. You are right that musicianship has taken a back seat to electronic drum kits, pretaped riffs, etc. but talent exists in all forms of music. Don’t get to comfortable with music the way it is because I guarantee you it will not last. It’s evolving even as we speak. Personally I love that. What lies around the corner ? I’m excited to find out
It´s crazy how a Queen soundcheck is still more exciting than most of the shows of artists nowadays...
still amazes me 30+ years on just how good he sounded live without auto tune..... what a legendary band queen was. i would give allmost anything to be able to watch them perform live again.....
It's kinda sad that autotune has become such a staple these days that great singing without it is surprising. The legends will live on however. Long Live Queen!!
@@HighlanderReactionsZA Will we ever see anything this great again?
Auto tune lol that’s why there is popular music today that fades in 6 months and legendary music from the 60-80’s that will never die…talent
Now you need to see the version of this song from the Freddie Mercury Tribute performance where Freddies part is taken by David Bowie and Annie Lennox not just harmonising but bouncing off each other, the energy is powerful
A rock concert was a tribal experience. But this guy was a shaman 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Had the pleasure to be there for that concert, my third time seeing them (74 and 82 as well). Absolutely the best frontman ever in Freddie but also the others contributed so much to the songs in both writing and performance. RIP Freddie!
You'll never see another frontman interact with a crowd the way Freddie did. This is how you perform on stage, Freddie and the band had the X factor and then some when it comes to performing live. No auto tune etc just pure raw talent, that's what puts Queen above the rest. The GOAT.
That was Freddie Mercury's crowd and Concert. It was an epic Concert in but Queen ruled.🤴 Bono from U2 said backstage that was the best set by anyone of the Live Aid Concert. ❤
Oh, that showmanship of leading the crowd through a vocal warmup. Brilliant!
Lex, you mentioned wishing a Queen concert in 2022. I know it's not Freddie, but they are touring with Adam Lambert. I saw them with Fred 2x, and now with Adam 3x. It still is an amazing concert with incredible music played extremely well.
Absolutely! Obviously there will never be another Freddie, we all know that as do Queen themselves, but Adam Lambert is phenomenal with them. And I think he does a great job of respecting the music and the legacy without trying to be a copycat.
Yeah I saw them in 2020 and I was blown away!!
Marc Martel captures Freddie's voice pretty well. His single take of this song with One Vision Of Queen is outstanding, and he's spot on in his live shows as well.
Brad appreciating a legend in action, love it
I was there!...Rodge killing it on the backing vox...
Queen just released a new song, with Freddie singing. It was from 1988-89. Kinda a lost song Queen found, and released it last week. It's number 1 in 22 countries.
He wasn’t warming up, he was warming the crowd up, he had them eating of his hand before the first song was even played, the ultimate live performer, RIP Freddy!
How can you not fall in love with Freddy so talented
Sadly they never performed this queen Bowie Live!! But a PHENOMENAL song!! Damn you Vanilla Ice
But it was really close. David Bowie was the act that followed Queen at the Wembley live aid, and they had planned to perform the song together if David could make it from the airport in time. Sadly, David got stuck in traffic literally a few miles from Wembley so Roger Taylor (the drummer) performed Freddies part (and Freddie performed Bowie part) instead.
Such a control of the crowd Best performer ever!
Cant lose with Freddie and the boys. EVER!
Freddie Mercury was amazing and totally fantastic showman and front man. Never be another like him . Rip Freddie
In about 1973 or 74 I saw Mott the Hoople at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. The support band was Queen. The next day my dad asked me how the gig had gone. I said I’d seen a band that were going to be massive. He thought I meant Mott but I told him about Queen. They had already released Liar but about two weeks later they appeared on Top of Pops performing The Seven Seas of Rye. I shouted my dad to come and watch them.
You guys should check out the tribute concert for Freddie after he died at Wembley Stadium. The three remaining members of Queen perform Under Pressure with Bowie and Annie Lennox singing Freddie’s lines…..
Queen was such an amazing band. Really every member was true masters of music. It's awesome that they have this on video so it will be here forever.
I regret not going to a Queen concert. Rock on Brad & Lex
Ditto. I've seen the vast majority of bands and artists that I like live, with the biggest exception being these guys.
@@brettkenschaft4239 it's easier for me to remember the bands I haven't seen when bragging about concerts, lol. Thanks for the reply, enjoy your evening
so smart to do his vocal practice with the fans. They thought it was special. He was just getting warmed up.
The greatest front man in the history of music.
Deacky wrote an anthem for all whose felt the weight of social pressure. Thank you John.
This is a great reaction. I was actually at this concert. It was the first concert I ever went to in my life. I was only 14! It was a massive occasion for me, I was a huge fan, and it was a great experience. The atmosphere in Wembley Stadium was amazing.
The bass riff was created by John Deacon the bassist. The lyrics were mostly Freddie Mercury, and added to by David Bowie at an impromptu jam session/recording session in Switzerland. But the 2 never performed live together. All of Queen's members were accomplished musicians. Brian May has a doctorate in Astrophysics. But no one controlled a crowd like Freddie. That crowd was 150,000 people!
Truly one of the great live performances of all time. All these guys are Legends. 👍✌❤
If you want to see the power of Queen, check out the Greenday concert footage. About 100 thousand people singing to Bohemian Rhapsody while waiting for Greenday to go on stage.
No artist today could command a crowd like this.
You guys should do more live vids! So many performances have been uploaded, and it's almost like watching your favorite artists in person
Freddie was insanely incredible. A true master of what a frontman should be.
I was never able to see Freddie live but I did see him duet with Adam Lambert via hologram at the only Queen show I’ve been to.
You 2 should get the CD’s of Queen Live Killers and Queen Live at Wembley 1986. Both are awesome ass kicking shows.
You two keep on rockin’!!!
Love your channel
I'm not particularly a Queen fan, I like some of their early stuff, but I have to admit that Freddie was the greatest, most charismatic front man ever. He could play the piano and the guitar but his main instrument was the audience, he was a virtuoso at playing that.
Aww Freddie...nobody else could ever do that. So amazing.
I turned 21 years old on this concert date in 1985. Remember it vividly! Big Freddie fan here!
OHHH YAAAAAY!!!
This MADE MY DAY, Guys….
BTW, You know that on October 13, Queen released a NEW SONG (YEP, with FREDDIE’S VOCALS!!!)
“FACE IT ALONE”
(It was an unfinished demo from their 1988-89 recording sessions.)
On the song’s first day out, it went to Number 1 on ITunes… in 22 COUNTRIES.
Since it came out on the 13th, it’s been viewed on YT almost 8 MILLION times.👑
Beautiful and haunting song. I reacted to it on my channel. Wow it was hard to hear Freddie's anguish in the lyrics and voice. Judging by his voice alone, I would guess that Face It Alone was probably rather late in the Miracle sessions.
The bassline famously sampled by Vanilla Ice.
The consummate professional. Few frontman come even close to Freddie's performances. Great reaction from you both.
Love that cheeky eff you Freddie says to the audience after they do everything he tells them to. lol.
Can you imagine having command like that of 60k plus people? incredible. Another excellent live song is We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions live in Montreal. It's fantastic!
I saw Queen 7 times over the years. Didn't matter if you were on the floor or the last seat in the top row, Freddie made it seem as if he was performing the concert directly to you. The band was always tight and everything always sounded fantastic. Some of the best times of my life!
The late great Freddie Mercury is my favorite male rock singer. What an incredible voice that legend had. Also one of the greatest performers to have ever graced the stage. What a legend will always be Freddie Mercury.
Sad irony I never got to see Freddie sing this, but seen Bowie and Annie lennox sing it at his tribute concert at Wembley in 92.
Still gets me how amazing this song is.
I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!!!!!!!
Benefit concert for the famine victims in Africa particularly Ethiopia in the 1980’s. Two concerts were being broadcast one in America and one in Great Britain. USA for Africa and BandAid
I love you both!!! You're great and original. Please keep sharing!!!
Im so happy for you guys. Beautiful family...
He was truly the greatest Performer and will be missed 4ever...R.I.P Freddy
God bless you two .
This performance was fantastic. Always love watching the warm up
Love you guys!
Dam sad to see this was when he was really sick and stilll put on a great show respect to this legend
Nope, he wasn't really sick here. He was tired, yes, and it was around this time he started to notice that something was wrong, but he didn't know and he wasn't diagnosed until a year later(1987). They stopped touring after this tour and Freddie never performed live once he started to get very sick.
@@sannaolsson9106 Freddie had a flu during this concert
@@worldtraveler3773 Ok yes, but I'm pretty sure the person I was responding to was talking about him having HIV/AIDS. There's no need to think it was sad that he had the flu lol
The greatest front man in musical history also the most talented group
Truly, the master of ceremonies!
Freddie was one of the greatest frontmen of all time. He sounded great live. Put 100% behind every vocal in every song.
❤❤❤THANK YOU FREDDY FOR YOUR UNFORGETTEBLE EXPIRIENCE.....THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SOUL❤❤❤THANKS ONLY QUEEN👑👑👑👑
Chills. Every single time.
Bowie and Annie Lennox performed the song on the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Also amazing performance. By both of them. Of course also with the remaining members of Queen.
Axl Rose did We will rock you on it and then together with Elton John Bohemian Rhapsody. But Under Pressure is definitely my highlight of that concert.
The wierdest thing is that the only reason David Bowie did not perform with Queen for this song at Live Aid was that David Bowie was stuck in traffic so he was late. David Bowie played right after Queen at Live Aid. Seriously, David Bowie was the act that followed Queen at that very concert.
David Bowie sang this song with Annie Lennox from Eurythmics at the tribute to Freddie concert.
Love Queen So much!❤❤. Lex, hope you are feeling good.😊❤. Oldsmar, FL here!!❤
They were a stadium band since the late seventies, by the time Live Aid came around they were regularly playing to huge audiences.
This performance is insane. Hope you'll do more reactions of live performances!
Love this song.
This is a duet between Freddie and Roger, originally a collaboration written by Queen and David Bowie and to be a duet between Freddie and David. In this performance, Roger is singing Freddie's part and Freddie is singing David's part.
You two compliment each other perfectly ! Brad is a lyrics guy and the music moves Lex !! Great reaction !!!! Thank you !!!!!!
Showing my age but I was at this concert. Legends.
Brad & Lex, you two are my fav reaction channel, hands down! You two help make mundane days alot brighter! Keep 'em commin'! I wish the best for both of ya ;-)
This was one of 2 nights, 76,000 fans per night. 152,000 very lucky people. A very big regret not seeing them live.
Freddie and Queen forever. Great reaction you two ❤💜💚💛💙🧡
Thinking warming up voice to begin with as he did, this perfomance was so great , It must have been something to have been there and seen this. How cool that had to be. so great how he interacted with crowd and they loved it This is one of my very favorite Queen songs
A lovely Summer's day in London, so privileged to have been there
Freddie was just so great.
I have seen this concert a hundred times and even now, I have Goosebumps.
Sat at work eating a Tuna Salad and so I have headphones on. When it starts... when John's bassline drops from that initial high intro into the lower main groove.... oh my...
I saw them at Knebworth in 1986. My first ever gig aged 16. Queens last gig together. Very blessed.
Miss you so much Freddie.
Damn!
Lex was having so much fun with that performance lol
Wife here...What an AMAZING showman..!!..Especially Looove this one!!
the little part he did in the beginning is whats known as "call and answer" Freddie used to like to do it just to have a bit of fun with the crowd. it's really just some vocal warm up exercises.
Epic. Such a great song
Such a masterpiece.
Yay Queen. The very first arena band. Because they were that good! Keep going down the rabbit hole. So many incredible songs! Miss Freddie so much! What a gifted singer 🤩
each of the band members have their own camera for this song eg Rogercam Deakycam and Briancam . You can appreciate their musicianship. Roger replaces most of the lyrics of David Bowie from this song. You can check out rogers versatility in Roger Cam.
I was blessed to see Queen in concert when I was 18 years old, back in 1980. 42 years ago and that concert still stays with me. Freddie held the crowd in the palm of his hand.
I've lost all my hs friends since this song came out, and every time, it reminds me of every one of them.
"Cause love's such an old-fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves"
These have to be some of the most profound lyrics ever.
