My Drone Cinematography MasterClass is FINISHED!
Hello FLYING CAMERA CREW! Another playful drone adventure today.
I experimented with some cinematic effects by attaching LED lights to my DJI Mini 3 & DJI Mini 2 drones. I’m thrilled with how the photos came out. This is new to me but this might be my new thing! I now have a ton of new ideas to try. Any suggestions?!?!
Here is the outline I followed:
1) camera in manual exposure (mirrorless or smartphone)
2) set slow shutter speed: between 3 seconds to 6 seconds
3) must have tripod - set up camera with framing you like
4) put drone up (sport mode) check to see if drone is still in the frame/shot
5) once the camera & framing are set you are ready for lot’s of trial & error photos.
6) I liked having a 5 second self timer on my camera
7) I counted to 5 after hitting shutter button, then moved the drone across the scene
I found this LED light for Mini drones that looks good:

LUMECUBE makes high quality products but can be very expensive, especially if you’re just doing some experimenting.

Your skills are outrageous. Thank you for everything you do for the community and for being so generous with your time.
William it was great seeing you on the Drone Society live stream last night. What a playful gang. It’s the best way to end the weekend.
PS - you should look into getting a new dishwasher.
Great fun thanks Ted
Big fun! I'm trying this tonight.
I love the videos that inspire. Good job!
This is bloody brilliant.
I like it. I may have to try it one of these days. Thanks Bud
Another inspirational video!
Great idea of using light with the drone for photography! Thanks for sharing, Ted!
Love it Ted. Very creative 👌. Definitely going to try this 💯
Just fabulous Ted! 👍👍
ahh man i really appreciate it sir.
That's so cool, I'm going to have to try it.
Looks like fun, ideal project with the nights getting longer, thanks for the inspiration Ted. 😎👍
I love your creative experiments, Ted! 😀What will come next? Flying disco ball? 🪩 👍🏻
Best hobby ever - can't agree more 😅
I appreciate it Jaroslav.
Cool idea
I think the reason that the photos weren't turning out like you expected was because those weren't lasers, those were tiny single-diode LED flashlights. I have the same exact one clipped to a backpack, and also because I've never seen a white laser before.
I think you would also need some fog or smoke in the air to really get much performance out of some actual laser pointers.
Light painting is always a fun time though, and it was interesting to see the attempts doing it with a drone.
Daniel you’re exactly right. I had LED lights shaped like a laser.
I will fix that. This light painting experiment might be a new direction to continually develop. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Welcome aboard to our FLYING CAMERA CREW!
Great video..thansk for sharing sir
Very imaginative, Ted! I bet with a little Photoshop tweaking one of those wide beams (like the one at 6:09) could be turned into a Bat Signal.
Another creative fun video ted I will try this gotta have creative fun in your life cheers col from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 👌🤙
Light painting with a drone - what a cool idea!
I always get new ideas and points of view from your videos.
yes! we all spark each others creativity. I’m addicted to UA-cam. Thanks for watching Ace.
DUDE! That was dope! (Don’t say that) 😂. Appreciate you, man!
Thanks Ted, I never thought of that. I have bright strobes too so that should be interesting.
please tag me if you try the long exposure photography. It’s super easy. Would love to see your results.
@@TedNemeth will do, I do a lot of recording at sunrise so will set out early
Awesome video. I have been inspired not too long ago to do light painting with my Mini 3 pro but I'm taking it to a new level. I got LED propellers for it. The props are each blue and pink. I'll be trying it out soon.
Ted enjoy how you explain things about the drone with enthusiasm and make it fun to learn great job.
good stuff!
Oh dude.... you really have my noodles stirring. This is going to be a fun experiment! 😂
well that was neat 😊 you're always tickling my brain parts, thanks Ted! Can't wait to be repaired and back in the air.... although that's an excuse I have two too much to edit already as it is.. .. jeepers... now focus... fooooooocccuus......
Lovely, I'll definitely try this😊
Super 😎🤝
We meditate similarly!
I learn a lot from you @TedNemeth. Thank you so much!
Doing this has been on my bucket list since my Mavic Mini. Then I got the Gopro Hero 11 Black with the Light Trace feature and I said NOW I HAVE TO DO IT. One year later... I still say one day..
its funny you say that Jimmie….i was putting off doing this episode for like a year. Finally got her dun. It definitely draws a lot of attention to the drone. No bueno for cities.
I watched a bunch of your videos in the past month, even printed one of your cheat sheets to carry with me out in nature. But this is a whole new thing. This light sculpting with long exposures would also work for hyperlapse with two drones. Hmm. Mind-blown.
Ted, this is brilliant! Another string to the bow.
You've gone and done it again.
Can't wait to get started
ahhh man I really appreciate your kind words brother.
Nice bts.
Good afternoon Ted 👍👌 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Sick!
ha right on my flying filmmaker friend. If you try it please tag me. Would love to see.
Love your work. Has taught me so so much . Thank you 😊 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Fun stuff!! Dabbled with some long exposure shots with my phantom ( years ago)...got some really cool shots ....stay awesome brother!!
Hi Ted 🙋♂ Very cool and most importantly creative episode.... Motivates to emulate 😊♥🎥🙋♂
Do you not use a raid system to store media? We have been doing that for the last 6 years or so. Have lost 1 drive. Hot swappable and no damage done. Might be a consideration for you...
Sick! But I would be very worried about the long strings entangling my props 😮

hello my friend. Thank you for watching. I loved your images of the temple in your latest video. Malaysia yes?
@@TedNemeth tq bro... 🙏
*That looks awesome! 🤔hmmmm, wondering. I bet the auxiliary light on the bottom of the Air 2s would work. Get some colored filters to put over it. 🤔"he did mention those led props...that would be spectacular."*
hey David! awesome seeing you here man. I had fun making this episode. I might spend more time on this and make it my thing.
Have you experimented with long exposure photography?
Not having the Drone Society live stream last Sunday felt empty!!!!
It’s such a fun way to end the weekend…I got so used to it.
See you there this weekend.
How did you lose all your footage?
Hey Peter. I had a “system” of sorting & saving clips that was not …perfect. In addition…I get lazy and forget to tag & upload clips to my hard drive. Lesson learned. Get a better system & stick to it.
Dude I lost my mini 2 to a tree 🌳 😢😢😢😢 smh
Don't use the LED props! Many people have had them not fit or strip the motor screw threads with the screws they come with. I was all set to try those too but after reading the reviews decided against it. Try different LED lights that have different settings... strobe, blink, etc. Thanks for the vid Ted, always look forward to seeing them.
Ted, I appreciate you keeping the cussing to a minimum and even bleeping one out. It makes your channel just that much better. Thank you.
Don’t use those lighted props if you like your drone.
you are probably right. I’ll probably still try it on my Mini 2 and just fly low over a grass field or something. I’m always one to experiment and take risks. A New York City punk rocker. Now I play with little flying cameras. Ahhh well.
@@TedNemeth love it! They don’t make lighted props for the 2. However…there are tons of really good lights out there. I’ve literally tried them all. Firehouse ARC series is excellent but China makes one that is sold at Amazon of various names …one being Laoive. They are probably the best available. With the mini 2 I’ve been able to get close to 100 grams in lights attached and it still flies. I recorded a few and left on my channel. Lighting a drone is super for to me for some reason. The best part is when you read in the “next door” app about a ufo that keeps flying around the hood each night! Actually, the best are on UA-cam….I’ve seen my drone in videos were people “can’t believe this alien keeps coming back with different colors on its ship”. They will actually say it hovered in place for hours and then shot up to 80,000 feet at the speed of light. I love being able to fly into space at the speed of light with a min 2 LOL! I’ve never been able to break their hearts and tell them it’s just excellent human technology with creative lighting!
@@fortyfour6626 I cant find these "china led's" on amazon or cant figure out which one you are talking about. the brand "Laoive" doesnt seem to exist anymore. Could you post a link to the type you're talking about? thx!
It seems like you feel like you have to insert explicative deletes / curse words to round out your "expressionism".
They drown out the creativeness that you seek to imbibe to others
