My Father in-law was one of the production managers at Delorean , he was literally there when they put the foundations in for the factory , which in its day was very advanced... he was head hunted from GM. Lots of stories, including the time the factory got fire bombed during the troubles in NI.
This is just amazing. I love how proud they are of the fact that they have so many things from the original factory.. They truly love this vehicle and are proud to work on and soon produce them. Amazing job guys. Your passion is saving a piece of history.

I've always wanted one, ever since I was a kid. Hell, at this point I'd just be happy if it just sat in my driveway. Maybe try to repair it over the years, but at least it would be my DMC.
In 2003 I moved to Houston. When someone told me that the DMC factory was here I was shocked. I drove over on my first day off and when I walked inside James I believe is the one that came out to greet me. I was there for a few hours and he gave me this tour while I was there. Just before I was headed out he invited me to sit in a car they had just finished rebuilding. It had a new car smell and looked like it had just driven off the factory line. Once I got out he shared with me that the car was going to a band member of Evanescence. That was the seal on the greatest tour I have ever had. Someday I will be able to walk in the door and buy my own Delorean.

Thats is sooo cool, delorean hands down my favorite car from the 80s. So fun. To see how proud the Guy is over the factoory and all the history in stuff from the bins to the Doors
The difference here is, they've been actually DOING something this whole time though. They've restored/repaired/etc. many dozens of cars as they've been fighting the battle with the NHTSA that only just got resolved in January of THIS year. FINALLY!! Only now are they finally, legally allowed to be a 'low volume' manufacturer of 'vehicles that resemble cars of 25 years ago or more'. They literally passed legislation back in 2015, but only this year did they write up and pass the rules to allow small makers / manufacturers to be able to apply for and market/sell their creations. Now it's time! :D We'll see what happens. I think they'll be getting them out the door by this time next year if not sooner. Here's hoping!
Wow. Brings back memories I have lived in dunmurry all my life. I used to see the cars on the transporters when I was going or coming home from school I have worked in the part of the old factory. @@lptomtom And for some reason, a fairly quick and powerful electric version just really makes sense, right now. I bet people would go nuts over a fast electric one.... And I bet it would make Elon Musk jealous.... 🤣

Some years ago, I heard stories that many of the heavy press tools used to stamp and form the stainless steel body panels were sold as scrap and were used to anchor the nets of Atlantic Salmon Fish Farms to the Seabed off the West Coast of Ireland.
My dad used to work at the DMC factory in Logan Utah when I was a kid. They used to make and fabricate tons of different stuff. It was later turned into making Snowcat snow machines after it was changed to LMC
I think the things like the internal door handles, indicator and whipper stalks were from the now-defunct Leyland Motors. It's good to see that you are continuing to build and supply parts for these iconic cars.
Amazing car, amazing company, amazing werehouse, thanks for saving all the parts of DMC one of my dream cars of all thime, and my favorite movies back to the future
This is pretty cool. I wish there were places like this for all car models. There are so many fantastic old cars that are slowly being forgotten simply because the parts aren't around to keep them on the road. I used to work at a company that made an obscure vehicle. They grossly overestimated their expected sales and bought millions and millions of dollars worth of parts (the enormous warehouse that housed all the body panels alone was almost unbelievable). After a couple years of terrible sales, they realized they had made a huge mistake and stopped building the vehicles. A couple years later and they still had excess vehicle inventory they couldn't sell and were tired of renting the warehouse space for all the parts. They scrapped everything. Millions of dollars down the drain, and the chance of maintaining the vehicles that had been sold simply thrown away.
Restarting production 40 years later, can't imagine any other car doing that. If I had the money I'd order an electric one. Not quite 1.21 GW though ;-)
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the masterful color grading to really make the stainless pop! A+ video. You've earned a sub from this 83 owner! :)
I never watched the movie. But I hope they start making these cars big time again. I always thought they were a fantastic idea. Stainless steel car, with off-the-shelf available chassis parts and engine drivetrain parts
Fantastic to see Stephan and his team preserve this marque.i think the next natural progression would be an EV version of the De Lorean to keep the theme going.
I think Delorean cars were way ahead of their time! I hope they can keep that legacy by making a very fast Electric vehicle that is worthy of the Delorean name.
What a Cool place. I heard of this plan many years ago but it seems they will actually be able to build ”new” deloreans there now. What a time capsule.
Amazing such a cool, mediocre car has such an awesome following 40years later. If John could see this he would probably cry. Despite problems, he was a brilliant man who had a huge impact on cars in our lives. Not just this beautiful machine. Loved it when it was new, will love the car and story 40 years from now. So great it has been kept alive. Great legacy, wish mine was half of what his is and will be.
You could consider producing them with and as an EV instead of a conventional motor, in this new environment they would sell like crazy... Further, id love to see them come up with a new version or an updated version with an EV conversion or otherwise, the vehicle holds up for today.
With the design of the chassis, there is very little room to install enough battery capacity with current available cells to make it have any kind of usable range. Maybe in the future when smaller cells with higher capacity come along that would be something to consider.
lets hope they can actually be able to at least break even first with what they have now, and worry about modernizing the car for a new generation once they get enough investors attention to invest the few hundred million it will take to even be able to so such a thing even with existing parts and technology. Otherwise, just buy yourself a used one right now and take it to a shop willing to do the work of installing an electric drivetrain. The ones that exist already that are electrified, don't have enough battery capacity to go more than a few miles before recharging - so a short trip to the convenience store for milk is all you'll have to settle for.... and the conversion is not cheap. You're talking about an entire redesign of the car itself, to have something like a battery platform that Tesla runs on all their cars with the expected range to be able to drive one any meaningful amount, which is $8-12k on its own depending on the output you want (and thats not including the electric motors) and you're looking at a car that will weigh over 4500lbs. Lets go with the baby steps first before trying to dive into the deep-end and not knowing how to swim. They would literally need Elon Musk to purchase the company if they ever have a chance at making a new model with an electric drivetrain.
It's so surreal to see any 40 year old car in perfect, literally brand new condition. I wish there were ways of reproducing other cars from the late 70s and early 80s, but clearly the opportunity has only been presented by the large inventory left over from factory closures.
Such a retro future design. Even 40 years old it still looks stylish with the gull-wing doors.

I have always wanted one however the path I took in life did not allow me to achieve that goal. I can still dream of owning one. Here here!
Amazing car, amazing company, amazing werehouse, thanks for saving all the parts of DMC one of my dream cars of all thime, and my favorite movies back to the future
just wow...amazing they still have all this stuff , good job fellas
I was in my early 20's when this car came out. The price tag for one at the time was way more than I could afford.
absolutely amazing! your dedication is a godsend ⭐️ (thank you for keeping the dream alive)
No words, simply amazing!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for sharing this with us. I love this car not just because of Back to the future.
I pass by this DMC factory everyday in NE Houston. Very cool to see the inside and what they're up to.
Restarting production 40 years later, can't imagine any other car doing that. If I had the money I'd order an electric one. Not quite 1.21 GW though ;-)
mini and beetle was in production for over 40 years.....no need to restart.
That was Funny!
@@MrKdr500 but they made millions of those. Delorean just got started. Out of production for 40 years.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the masterful color grading to really make the stainless pop! A+ video. You've earned a sub from this 83 owner! :)
Well done. So good to see the car being kept alive by you guys.
I never watched the movie. But I hope they start making these cars big time again. I always thought they were a fantastic idea. Stainless steel car, with off-the-shelf available chassis parts and engine drivetrain parts
Gives a whole new meaning to "New Old Stock"
i've driven past the facility a million times and always wanted to see inside!!!!!!
Amazing you are keeping a dream alive for so many people. Greetings from Ireland 😎
Enjoyed the tour, appreciate seeing all your time and efforts.. 👈
I love the fact that this company exists and is planning to make new ones.
Very Good, Must visited when things get better and when I retire from work in a few years time.
Trying to make a dead dream work love it keep the good work up guys
My Dad bought his Delorean in 1980 and delivered in 1981, still have it. It was my High School car.
Bought mine in 81, if my son behaves himself he may inherit it, otherwise I may be buried in it, lol.
Absolutely Brilliant.
God, I wish this could be done with the Tucker Company.
The two seem to be from the same cloth.
Tucker would be a great one to revive.
The model could be called the Preston.
How exciting!!! I hope they come back to full production and have the issues with the originals corrected.
Vert cool what you guys are doing. This car is very iconic.
I remember going to a old friends house and I saw this car in their garage with clothes on top of it . didn't know it was a gem.
