I've been wanting to do dimir zombies since I started commander but never got around to it. Bought Wilhelt the second it was available and have been loving customizing the deck
I have a Scarab God deck that does enough of its own thing to want to keep it, but Wilhelt is really cool! Feels more in the spirit of what zombies should be doing, and makes it really hard to run out of gas.
Agree with "Mr. Mammuthus" - I love having some of the white zombies in there, like God-Eternal Oketra, so Varina is the one for me. Wilhelt is an incredible addition to the 99 there though!
Agreed with the Halana and Alena shout out! Great to see them on a card. With Joe’s assurance that it’s fun, I might build them! Don’t have a Gruul deck yet and I’ve been looking to play something with counters.
Because JC was so jazzed for HalanAlena, I imported an average EDHREC list into MTGO and jammed a few games. Joe is 100% correct: plays way differently than Xenagos and holy hell is it fun to play.

As someone who has played for longer than Beezy has been alive (as I found out a while back from another video) you two are a great example of what drew me to this game - not just this format - in the first place. I am also in love with Xanathar. I agree that it's not "good" but it is really cool. When spoiled I took apart my Sen Triplets for Xanathar, even CMC only with Gyruda. It's a great deck and can be a powerhouse without feeling unfair, at least that's what I think.
I lost a game to a Xanathar deck this year. I was playing mono green elves and the Xanathar player combo’d off with all my cards off the top of my deck. Generated infinite mana and played my entire deck to win. It was sick
Yeah totally agree, I seem to have a thing for sen triplets, and I don't seem to get that "bad" vibe from Xanathar. He might be way stronger, but for some reason more fair ...
She’s absolutely bonkers with Cathars’ Crusade and Divine Visitation and is my favorite new commander of the year and I’m very happy with my build of her.
Adeline was a pleasant surprise for me. I grossly underestimated her at first. Cherries is the reason I love Tibalt so much. Torens is such a beast. I love Beezy's love for Octavia. Thank God for the Showcase H and A art. "Without saying 'We're gay' in the flavor text." Amen.

Halana and Alena is fantastic aggro card, I run this girlloveduo in arena, powerful Brawl deck and I love it! So it gave me a spark to do a edh version too and cause I have a weird way to build decks, first comes theme/story/flavor and just after that those boring important things like power level, synenergies plaaplaa :D with this deck I chose to use just female creatures and dragons, girls with DRAGONS! How lesbinenz that can be, you tell me? :D Btw, happy holidays from Finland for you guys! :)

Really happy to see some love for Killian. Made a voltron deck with him immediately and it's quickly become my favorite deck. By turn 4 with no ramp you can easily get a 10/10+ Killian with basically every keyword. Hilarious every time
@@matthewkeeler1650 I'd send you one but I don't have one online and honestly it isn't super impressive. I basically just packed it with tons of auras. You just want to get a decent amount of hexproof and indestructible in the deck or else he immediately becomes a target.
Great list, as a filthy casual Timmy I have to say tovolar and chatterfang were the most exciting for me. Finally being able to expand my existing deck and run a playable werewolf commander is sooooo awesome
Beledros is a sick commander because there are so many unique ways to leverage the activated ability. My beledros deck is one of my favorites, it's built to pay tons of life for advantage and card draw and then swap away my low life total with a profane transfusion type effect. Loads of fun to play
I love Vadrik for their flexibility, a spell slinger deck that can also crush face while making other spells cheaper K and T are still my favorite Enchantment commander Eloise Number 1, Sheeeeeeittttt Prosper is super fun, I really enjoy having 3 different exile piles on average, the deck just snowballs Worst commander of the year: Tarrasque dies to stepping on a Sedge Scorpion :P

I've had a Svella deck for awhile now and it is so fun and can pop off easily. If you get Seedborne muse you basically win if they don't remove it since you can just do her last ability on every turn.

My favorite commander of 2021 is The Prismatic Bridge. In it I got around 20 creatures that are also fun commanders on their own. Like Xanathar, Toxrill, Avacyn, Elesh Norn, Sigarda, Sisay Weatherlight captain, Etali, etc. Loads of mana rocks, some interaction, no tutor (outside of Sisay). Its a fun and random deck. :)
Mine too, I made a similar deck with some sacrifice to get lands flavor (diligent farmhand, sakura-tribe elder, yedora, seedguide ash, primal growth, perilous forays…).
Adeline is my #1 because she’s the only one from this year I actually built but she’s fantastic. Super pushed for a MonoC Aggro. Will probably build Laelia tbh, I like to punch face

She's the commander I've had the most fun with this year, because she sent me on a quest to find strange and obscure artifacts that do things no one expects. (See Ring Of Immortals, Al Abara's Carpet, Null Brooch, Arena Of The Ancients). Add the fact that she can stop Thassa's Oracle by tutoring out Torpor Orb at instant speed and she's a slam dunk winner. Just my couple of pennies. Merry Christmas.
3:00 what about Killian reanimater deck? There are many spells that cost like 4, 5, or 6 that target and bring back a creature in the graveyard. Would his able not be able to work in getting cheating your best bigger creatures out sooner from the graveyard?
I dont know Halana and Laena is good enough.. in my group, the deck is only counter and destroy anything alive…. Every win caused by combo, no creature alive for more than 2 turn… too much removal or counter.
i love my vadrik deck, once did 315 damage to my friend with a crackle with power. Vadrik had my spells reduced by 22 so that was easy, also curse of swine is awesome in that deck.
I love my Vadrik deck too! Am 3-0 with it so far in my playgroup. Haven't cast crackle with power, but I think I've got Vadrik up to 47 power or so. It's so sick with treasure ramp haha
I slotted Beledros into my Ramos Charmslingers deck, used her to Explosion somebody for 45, and never looked back. Ramos plus Beledros is gross (but not infinite!) and I'm here for it. Speaking of blue black zombies. I finally opened my crimson vow pack and it had undead butler and necroduality. Plus stitched assistant and stitchblade scab (but I already had one of them). Also a wedding invitation for osgir.
people who claim representation doesn't matter at all sure do get upset when it's acknowledged that even a single card isn't specifically representing them, don't they.
My favorite commander for the year was Tovolar, I built a werewolf tribal deck and it has been so fun to play. Also, I built a Vadrik astral archmage deck and it’s wonderful to find out he’s gay.
Halana and alena is currently my interim commander for my werewolf deck I am building - may consider them permanently given their cool design My favourite commander for this year is probably Shadrix Silverquill (followed closely by the new Olivia and Liesa cards)
I’m a bit new to Magic, but easily my top three commanders this year were, in order, Prosper, Wilhelt, and Tovolar. I made some great decks out of Tovolar and Wilhelt, and I need to finish upgrading my Prosper one. Tovolar in particular is awesome but I may be biased since werewolves are my favorite mythical monster lol

The cool part is that the slime counters stay, so when you recast Toxrill they resume getting -1/-1.

I play Beledros in my Dina deck, it got really good synergy with the deck.
I do as well :) It works well when it sticks.
A friend in my playgroup has a really flavorful deck with him as the commander. Works really well and is super strong in our not so cutthroat meta.
I like that they call him a big dragon several times, and it's just a 4/4 ;)

My Vorinclex Monstrous Raider deck is one of my favourite decks. It allows me to play all the cool hydras and mono green planeswalkers.

Svella has been my favorite deck I made in 2021 by a wide margin. Perfect intersection of Timmy and Johnny.
I built Halana and Alena recently and I must say it's one of the most fair/fun deck I've played in a loooooong time!
I love that MTG named a card (Beezy's #1) after my daughter, though they spelled it wrong. ;)

Beledros Witherbloom is my favorite deck! I pulled his alt art and it looks so good. I go token aristocrats with Massive X Spells.

That is quite sad to hear, it sounds like my playgroup, where people only win by combo and only care about combo.
If your playgroup is racing for combos, the antidote is stax.
