One of the first decks I ever built was my Samut Voice of Dissent Warrior tribal deck, which has kinda become one of my signature decks. It has an Exert subtheme because of Samut's ability to untap creatures. I'll never forget the table's reaction the first time I gave Combat Celebrant Vigilance and started taking extra combats every turn. My girl Samut has some incredible interactions within that deck and it's one of my favorites ever

Up top my dude! God damn Samut is great. Mine has never been a very specific theme, the way she enables almost anything I ever want made sure of that, but god has it always been the perfect mixture of simple, tricky, and explosive.

I absolutely loved this episode. Always great to see why people build the decks they do and how each one can resonate so differently based on our playstyle.
My favorite deck at the moment is a Dromar deck I call Rainbow. It is chok full of cards that can change the color of perms or spells on the stack and can change the color word on cards. So if something says counter target green spell, I can change that to counter target blue spell. And it runs all of the swords! I did not want to use them just for their generic goodstuff traits in any one of my decks, so this is the perfect deck for them!

I've played kitchen table magic back in the OG kamigawa days then dropped it. Approximately 15 years later I've got introduced into commander and blew my mind then I've proceeded to get the strixhaven simic tokens deck and oh boy i have a blast with it I'm constantly tinkering it to the point that it just has like 5 cards from the precon and every time i love to try things out. Then I discovered that I'm not that good of a brewer but i enjoy building upon shells and that's how I've got 5 precons upgraded and most of the still on the works. But yeah my pet deck is my twincasters.

Most fun: Damia - Superfriends where I play my favorite planeswalkers, every version of them if possible. Namely, Vraska, Teferi, Mu Yanling, Wrenn, Ashiok, Tamiyo, and Kiora. There's a mill enchantment package in there which is fueled by my draw. The rest of the deck is filled with gorgons (my favorite creature type), snakes, ramps, removals and counterspells.
Signature: Kenrith/Karona - Political control. I can create tokens for my opponents to attack or block with, fog whenever necessary, and increase power of attacking creatures so long as they don't swing my way. I fancy myself an arms dealer and mastermind when playing this deck. Signature card: Master Warcraft. It has 'two commanders' because it interchangeable, I'll only have to swap about 8 cards to switch between value durdling and Duelist's Heritage 16 commander damage let's go!
Strongest: Esika - Superfriends deck with the restriction that I must have exactly 41 planeswalkers, each character only taking up one slot. The flavor being, it's a class of 40 students and Quandrix Kasmina is the lecturer. I excluded Ugin and Bolas because they can't fit in the lecture hall, and Jaya is too old for this shit. It's sub-optimal, but strong enough for my playgroup, that's how jank we play!
Silliest: Golos - It's banned but the group is okay because rule 0! It's filled with chaos effects, minus the tedious ones like Warp World, Scrambleverse and Thieves' Auction. I play stuff like Haphazard Bombardment, Capricious Efreet, Maelstrom Nexus, Sphinx Ambassador, Spellweaver Volute, Whims of the Fates (all or nothing!), Liar's Pendulum, Deadbridge Chant, Vial Smasher, Chaos Warp, Chef's Kiss, Creative Technique, Fossil Find, and... Door to Nothingness (which I randomize the target, including myself). This is the one deck I won't get sick of.

I have three paper decks and all of them have the common theme of "the combat step matters", and they all emphasize attacking (Matt is my spirit animal). I'd say that I'm having the most fun at the table when the board state is a puzzle and I'm trying to solve it. Interestingly, however, I don't care for voltron or super wide token decks because there's no puzzle to solve if my commander is untouchable, unblockable, and hits for 21 damage, or if I have enough creatures to wash over all my opponents regardless of what they have going on.
My "Signature Deck" is Xenagos, God of Revels. For background, my very first commander deck was headed by Gahiji, Honored One, built right after the first commander precons came out and whose thesis was, "supply my opponents with the tools to destroy each other"; it was a pile of cards full of things like Akroan Horse, the Hunted cycle, defensive pieces like Ghostly Prison, and finishers with Gisela blade of goldnight and Avatar of Slaughter. It literally never won, and at least half the time was the first one out. It turns out that when you give everybody a lot of punching power, they're too scared of each other and instead focus on you. The ONLY time that the deck made progress towards knocking other players out is when I'd draw the random Xenagos in the 99 which wasn't on theme but I just liked it. Eventually, I scrapped the original deck thesis, cut white, made Xenagos the commander and started beating faces, and it worked well and remains my most tuned and effective deck.
Since those halcyon days of Death by Dragons, there's been a lot more cards that help with the original strategy, so a couple years back I dusted off my old Gahiji pile now headed by the king of Naya forced combat, Marisi, Breaker of the Coil. Goad is a godsend, and is certainly my weirdest deck, and deck most under construction. However, I wouldn't say either of those are my "favorite" deck. My very first MtG deck (not commander) was a mono-white equipment precon from Mirrodin (well, technically my first deck was a Kamigawa precon, but the first deck I liked was the Mirrodin precon). However, when commander became the thing to play, there wasn't a legendary that I really jived with for the style of equipment I liked (Sram can go eat his cheerios in the corner), until Zendikar Rising with Akiri fearless voyager. She does everything I want: protects my dudes, draws cards, rewards me for running both equipment and creatures. I know that Boros equipment has become somewhat of a meme since WotC keeps printing support for it almost every set, but she's my favorite and I'm here for it (Though I will take a look at Dana's Ardenn and Esior deck).

My wackiest deck has to be Gallia of The Endless Dance, satyr tribal + chaos coin flips.
No real wincons, just satyrs partying, causing mayhem and randomly destroying stuff xD
Shifting boardstates and just trying to be random.
It can be annoying and if it goes off then it really makes games last waaay to long, but most people that have played against it loved it and the whole table often laughs their asses off ^^

Kyler is a deck that I have really enjoyed and have had some fun games with my experience would be similar as to Matt’s picked it up and threw in a a few more humans and played it a few days later, not worried about trying to make it perfect. Enjoyed Ranar earlier in the year.

My signature deck is probably Goreclaw; my favorite thing to do in MTG is produce and use a ton of mana and/or cast a bunch of expensive spells (usually creatures) in a single turn. My Goreclaw deck lets me do this as it can sometimes produce 40+ mana on turn 5 or 6 *Without* going infinite, though the deck can also go infinite and potentially win earlier than turn 5. In this deck, going infinite with mana inevitably also leads to me being able to draw basically as many cards as I want so I can find and play whatever cards I want, which allows me to do one of my other favorite things in MTG, which is to win the game by doing something/anything huge and splashy with Eldrazi. In the case of my Goreclaw deck, my go to win con is to produce infinite mana and use Temur Sabertooth to bounce and replay Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger over and over until it has exiled all of my opponents permanents with cast triggers, and then if my opponents for some reason haven't scooped or maybe if that plan didn't work for some other reason, I just cast and bounce Craterhoof Behemoth repeatedly to essentially give my creatures infinite power and then swing. Finally, my last reason for Goreclaw being my signature deck is that a lot of people still underestimate mono-green, some tell me green is one of the weaker colors, and some tell me it's a strong color but needs to be paired with something else to be really good... so obviously I have to prove them wrong!
Goreclaw is probably my 3rd strongest EDH deck out of 14, my top 2 strongest being Tatyova and Mikaeus the Unhallowed, both of which are combo decks that can win on turn 4 with a great hand or even faster with an extremely great hand, though I wouldn't say they are particularly close to CEDH. The reason I enjoy both of those decks so much is because playing them feels sort of like trying to solve a puzzle or assemble a machine... a puzzle/machine that I'm familiar with, but that I have to build or solve using a slightly different set of tools/pieces every time, as is the nature of mtg and especially edh, so I enjoy it because it can actually be mentally challenging and good exercise for my brain/mind, it involves a lot of creative problem solving and figuring out the most efficient way to accomplish my game plan while also having a reasonable amount of interaction. (Still talking about during gameplay, not deck construction, though that is certainly also part of the challenge and part of the fun)
I also quite enjoy graveyard shenanigans, so among my other decks I have a Lord Windgrace reanimator deck, a Muldrotha Deck, and an Araumi deck, all of which are fairly strong and super fun but not nearly as optimized as my top 3 decks that I already talked about. For me, the main appeal of Muldrotha and Lord Windgrace, at least the way I built it, is that I just get to keep playing the same powerful cards over and over, in the case of my Lord Windgrace deck that's mostly just creatures, but I also get to cheat mana costs over and over because the deck has so many cheap reanimation effects. I love the feeling of "No matter how hard my opponents try to kill my big creatures, they just keep coming back." Also my Muldrotha deck is 100% permanents, so that restriction makes the deck more interesting and helps to prevent it from being generic Sultai Goodstuff. With Araumi, part of the main appeal is the fun of general graveyard shenanigans and trying to abuse ETB, attack, and death triggers, but in addition to being super fun, the value Araumi provides by giving everything encore is actually just insanely good in some cases, it synergizes extremely well with a lot of creatures, including some already very powerful ones like Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Imagine if you could play a Gray Merchant, have it die, and then have it come back as THREE GRAY MERCHANTS, and then make EVEN MORE copies of it with something like the death trigger from Specimen Collector, or even better, 3 Specimen Collectors. Well, in Araumi, that can be done, and it's not even very difficult.
I think my Captain Sisay deck is worth mentioning too, it can be fun and wholesome or mean and unfun depending on what path I decide to take in any given game. (Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Armageddon is an option, plus there are other effectively one sided or mostly/usually one sided board wipes that my commander can tutor for). I really enjoy the toolboxy feel of the deck, plus being able to play against a wide range of power levels, since I can choose if I want to try to go for a quick and possibly mean win con, or I can just play wholesom legendary tribal as the deck has over 30 legendary cards, many of which would NOT be in an optimized Captain Sisay deck. I guess even the "mean" win cons that I do have wouldn't be in an optimized Captain Sisay deck lol. But anyway the deck is fun because how could legendary tribal not be fun!?
My other decks are Talrand, Ramos, Ruxa, Gahiji, Zada, Ghave, and Kangee, Aerie Keeper, and I'm planning on building either a mono white deck or an Orzhov deck soon, as well an an artifact deck, most likely with Saheeli, the Gifted as commander. Of my current decks, I think Ruxa, Gahiji, and Ghave need the most work. Now that I've spent so much time typing this all out I'm wondering if anyone who sees this comment will actually read the whole thing lol, so let me know if you did:)

I love my grouphug deck with commander hippo :)
After playing that deck i find myself using a lot more cards that can be used to benefit at least me and another player even outside of grouphug.
    My otherl giggle decks are:
    - xyris copy your stuff and weard Interactions (like counter activated abilities, or exile the stack or change targets) deck.
    - liesa life has a price deck. Its fun cause you can play everything, hell i even play helm of awakening for you! But you pay the price at most if you cheat.
    - brion onepunch deck. I smack big creatures in face, fling them or just reflect damage that i did to my creatures.
    - shark and dude wheel. Since my golos flicker and wheel got apart i revived the spirit and now i have a pretty flickery shark on the sky so dont even try to touch him.
    - kathrill cycle deck. I didnt see even one player build it that way. Its a funny thing cause you mostly also flicker something. But im still on work (and its esp hard cause i dont wanna tutor)
My most powerfull deck might be kestia enchantress and landfall deck. Yeah why only be a strong carddraw engine if you also can have a ton of mana at the same time? And i still have room for 5 win options:
    A) endless combo
    B) wide + anthems
    C) commander dmg
    D) helix pinnacle
    E) outvalue
But could also change some of those to mill, other endless combos, lifegain, steal xD

I actually have logged all of the games that I played since July 2020 in a scoreboard on google docks with my brother-in-law and we were able to use statistics to figure out how often we played various decks, which ones had the best win rates, etc. Turns out that for 2020, my most-played deck was my "Meren of Clan Nel Toth" deck, with my "The Ur-Dragon" deck following closely behind. Despite being the most played decks, their win rates were 49% and 56% respectively, so I wasn't playing them because they won all of the time, but because I genuinely enjoyed playing them and what they could do (oftimes much to the dismay of my bro hahaha). Bruna, Light of Alabaster. Early game, buff up my creatures, or be political and byff my opponents, or find away to make my good auras detrimental for my opponents (give zada Pro red, or Niv mizzet Pro blue), OR buff up some creatures to force a board wipe.
Then, when the dust settles, swing with a Bruna and have me a raid boss. Untargettable, indestructible, I take no damage, flicker evasion and more.

Fun show topic, guys. The Vivictus deck is making me think about digging out my Mayael and rebuilding that. My favorite deck is a Marath Enchantress deck, and it's all about proving the worth of all those "do nothing" enchantments. My oddest deck is Kynaios and Tyro (but it's really Trostani + Brudiclad ❤4VR), with win conditions that range from Knight Exemplar to Fleet Swallower.
There is so much room in EDH for creative deckbuilding, and honestly even the biggest flops can make for a good story. Paralax wawe is really tricky to navigate. We did cut it also from cube. It is similar why I do not play wheel of misfortune in EDH. Lot of text. I think spike players will enjoy it.

One of the best feelings, for me, is when a new, 'must-have' card comes out for a commander you run and when u check it out, you realise straight away it's no good for the way you play your deck. Purely because you understand YOUR deck and what works with it. In the same breath, I enjoy when a friend suggests a card they think will be good for your deck because they think they know what ur deck's strategies are, but u can straight away tell them why it wouldnt work.

If you want a weird, spicy Mimeoplasm combination, try Timbermare and Impervious Greatwurm. Timbermare has haste and taps down all other creatures when it ETBs (also dies at the end of turn but w/e), and Impervious Greatwurm gives it 16 +1/+1 counters, giving it 21 power. Haste. No one has blockers. OHKO

My Signature Deck would definitly be Lazav, the Multifarious for a multitude of reasons. My shop had a CEDH scene where I had already had the deck together and would act as the combo policeman to smack down as the combo player. Lazav was also the first rare I ever opened so it has become my signature card. Recently however, I have been playing mostly Purpherous, Bronze-Blooded as my lets just have fun deck. Cheat big stuff into play and bonk people until they stop screaming. I built Purpherous as my casual deck really so I wouldn't get bored of playing Lazav but also so I wouldn't be the guy bringing a highly tuned deck to the casual pod who just want to play magic.

    I play Alesha, and I challenge Matt's challenge! 🤓
Bias disclaimer: my build is Aristocrats, not Reanimator/Cheat-Big-Things, so I don't need that much discard. My meta doesn't counter rummage spells, so risk of losing your cards off Cathartic Reunion vs Thrilling Discovery.
That said, Thrilling Disco is worse than Cathartic Reunion, maybe even Tormenting Voice! It has one simple _huge_ downside: it costs white, meaning sometimes it's a dead card early. Rummagers should fix your mana; this requires you to be already fixed.
I don't even run Cathartic Reunion (better than this) between Faithless Looting, Cathartic Pyre, Thrill of Possibility, Valakut Exploration, and Key to the City (among other non-rummaging card draw). I think I might even prefer Stronghold Rats, which I don't run, but at least that would be recurrable interaction.
I suspect Reanimator would have similar evaluations. There's already enough better rummaging that I don't think Disco would ever make the cut.
Hope this comes across as constructive! I love your show overall, guys.

    What if Alibou Arcbound?
Not sure about which ones fall into which categories, but some of my current highlights:
Rograkh and Keleth. Just love how dumb it is, although I swapped in some cards before the first game, the original build was them and 98 basics :P.
Gyome. So much stuff you can do with this boi. My favorite moments include my friend being like "Why are you scared of Nekusar, you've got like 4 food to gain life back with." to which I replied "Oh yeah, I forgot you can use food to gain life." Or during the test run, my friend was down to like 12 life and I had some bois on the board. I'm like "sac my food to make all your creatures indestructible. Tap them" and he grabs the card and reads it again.
Pir and Toothy. Really it's more Pir, ft. Toothy, but whatever. I blame you for this, kinda skipped over the Battlebond partners, but then was watching an episode like "THAT'S what Pir does!?" and made a graft/spike deck. Also Druid's Repository is disgusting in the deck.
Also still working on tuning it up, but gotta shout out my big beautiful son Atogatog.

Really surprised at how "unplayed" Parallax Wave is when it's a white STAPLE in Duel Commander. It is really, really strong, and like you say there are plenty of neat tricks to do with it. Like in response to the last trigger, flash in a Containment Priest for example to prevent everyone from getting their cards back B)

Also Old Frame only Eladamri Elves, pre-modern pretty much. No newer MH2 retro cards.
My powerful deck would Chatterfang combo.deck lol, it's almost all foil and pretty strong
I have found my love in deck building with big limits and making the decks fun and strong :)

    My Philosophy on Rule Zero
    1. Ask what turn will their deck can win at. (This is I.M.O. a very important question.) If they can't answer this question then they are new/inexperienced and will probable play at a level 5 and maybe get lucky if someone else points out how they can win. (If this is you, I'll play with but I'll warn you that my deck will win some where by turn 3-7. 3 if I'm lucky, Xmas hand/draw.) Winning by 3-4 consistently = CEDH. By 5-7 Casual EDH. Anything longer is Jank/Beginner Commander. (Yes it's written this way because Wizards makes Jank/Beginner Commander decks for people to get into EDH which they would like to take over but won't be able because it's the best kitchen table MTG. Me and my friends played group games before we ever played in a constructed format back in '95.)
    2. Ask if the other players mind playing with any particulars of your deck. (I.E. My group plays with printed proxies of a particular quality and we play with our own ban list. We're ok with cards as long as you don't use them in broken ways and have banned certain cards that are broken on their own.) This might be the place to mention if you Like/Dislike any type of game play like infinite combos and the such. (You don't have to reveal what combos just the types, I.E. Infinte mana and draw my deck, Stacks/Tax you out of the game or Steal your turns/Solitaire.
    3. Lastly ask what type of player they are? (I.E. Spike/Timmy/Johnny) or What type of game play are they expecting? (I.E. to Win/Play Socially/Do or see something cool at the table)
Doesn't have to be any particular one but any combination these questions should get everyone up to speed with what to expect at the game table. One last note to all the veteran EDH players, take the time to teach those Commander players how to find out the answers to these questions and have the answers about your decks/self ready because it'll lead to the games everyone will enjoy without all the fuss of deceptive numbers and player not even sure of what they mean.
