I used a (common cheap)TypeK thermocouple wire pushed down the dip stick tube far enough to be into the oil at least an inch , bend the wire coming out of the tube down along side of it and secure it with a zip tie to hold it in place so when you pull the dip stick in and out the wire stays put . The wires come in various lengths I got a 6 foot one , work it thru a little hole in the fire wall or heater box to a cheap voltmeter in the cockpit that has TypeK plug inlets and check your temp digitally F or C . You can even attach TypeK thermocouples to the cylinder heads to get the head temp of each cylinder . Tiny amazing things !!
that was great for people like me (slow lol) to understand, it will help me to troubleshoot to since I understand the concept of it now, thanks for making the vid!
They still make those temperature dipsticks he's got a video on UA-cam the video depicts a Volkswagen with flames coming out of the engine that's the one you want they do still sell them I just purchased one and this is December 2019
Very Cool. Thanks. I got mine from Berg 25 years ago and it still works great. I don't like to leave them in unless I am testing a engine. The are PITA to check when hot like at a fuel stop. Very hard to read with fresh oil and old eyes. hehehe Thanks again Hippie Man
Perfect explanation. I didn't understand the triangle part moved like a clock hand. Now it makes TOTAL sense! Thanks GZ!
Geezee I'm not that mechanically inclined and I needed this video bad. Thanks I appreciate you
EZGZ, Thanks for your videos. Really enjoy watching them as I restore my 70 bus. Please keep it up! Matt
Thanks Matt. Folks keep watching so I will keep making them. I need to get back in the garage. Take care. EZGZ
These are still being made and you can buy these direct from the manufacture at www.savemybug.com

My brother and I graduated from El modena High with the Berg brothers Doug & Dave in 1979 and 1980. Are they still in business?

Never New you had to set them bin running mine factory set.
I only use one to see whats happening on a new engine. Then I go back to a stock stick.
