    How would you style this skirt? Big pockets or a lovely print?

    Thank you very much for the pattern. You've explained it very clearly, the best step by step I've seen. I'm going to try to do it.

    I would love to know how to do this skirt with an waist band?!
    This is an absolutely amazing tutorial, I am a beginner in sewing and this is so easy to understand even for an beginner like me. Thank you so much! ❤️🌿

      You’re so welcome! You could try by adding a straight piece of fabric to the top. If it doesn’t sit flat, pinch out the excess and mark it on your pattern. You can cut and glue it to end up with a slightly curved waistband pattern. Don’t forget to fuse/interface it.

    Waist + 1.5 inch divided by 6. 8 inches down . Hip + 1.5 inch divided by 6. Curve waist and hem. I think I got it ✂️

    I'm confused by the bottom "curve." I get how you found the right angles at the side, and how if you followed their trajectories to connect them you could form a curve. But that's not what you did - I just see three straight lines (center and each side). Is it mostly a straight line, just with a tiny bit of curve at each side (like the curve turns into a straight line at the point where each side line intersects with the center line?) Thank you for the video!

    • @charlotta_patterncuttingschool
      @charlotta_patterncuttingschool  Рік тому +2

      Hello, with the hemline you really always want a as shallow as possible curve, so on my slightly flared piece it nearly looks straight, but on a more flared pattern you might more of a curve. If you curve your hem too much you'll get a scalloped look, so I'm trying to keep it as straight as possible, but also connect the three right angles with a smooth line, hence a very shallow curve. It's a bit like drawing a curve out of lots of straight lines. I hope this makes sense

    Great tutorial. So simple and to the point. But can you explain how to add more flare? Elastic waist instead of zipper?

    • @charlotta_patterncuttingschool
      @charlotta_patterncuttingschool  2 роки тому

      You’re so welcome! For more flair you make the panels wider at the bottom when you draft it

    • @helenm1085
      @helenm1085 Рік тому +1

      And for an elastic waist you need to make the waist at least big enough to go on over your hips, and add a channel (waistband) at the top to thread the elastic through

    This method could be used for 4 panels, right? Just divide by 4? I’m recreating a 1940s v-neck dolman-sleeved dress with a 4 panel skirt with topstitched pockets. I’m thinking this will work well. Thanks for all the great tutorials.

    • @charlotta_patterncuttingschool
      @charlotta_patterncuttingschool  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Barbie, yes you can use exactly the same method if it has 4 panels at the front and 4 at the back (so 8 overall). If there are only 4 panels in the whole skirt, I think it would still work with a flared skirt, but for a more A-line skirt you might have to add some shaping into the top part.

    Hi i am trying to still understand how are you getting 6 panels from this pattern that is divided into 2 i am here thinking if you will have to fold the material in half and cut and will you then get your 6 panels ?

    • @charlotta_patterncuttingschool
      @charlotta_patterncuttingschool  Місяць тому +1

      Hello! No, you cut out the pattern 6 times as it is. The first line you draw is your waist measurement ( plus ease) divided by 6. So you need to cut out the final pattern 6 times to get your full waist measurement. Does that make sense?

      Shouldn't the hip measurement be 14 not 18....80+4 = 84/6= 14? I'm not picking faults I'm just nervous about getting it wrong as it's my first time

    • @charlotta_patterncuttingschool
      @charlotta_patterncuttingschool  3 роки тому

      Hi Drew, glad you liked it. Regarding the the hip measurement, you’re of course right about my calculations being wrong- in a very tactful manner. I made this a while ago, so I’m not a 100% sure, but I think the 18 might be me adding a bit more flare.
      So the 14cm would be the minimum you want ( very little ease), but I would always make it a big bigger as I find it more flattering. If you’re on Instagram, I’d love to see it. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions. It’s charlotta_patterncuttingschool
