Introduction to gored skirt styles and godets

Oh I'm so glad I found this video. I drafted a shirt dress a few years ago that had flared gores from the waist and was worried I had actually drafted it wrong. It turned out beautiful! and I wore it to my eldest daughter's high school graduation. Watching this video has basically confirmed that I did draft it correctly and so I will draft another dress with the same style skirt because it was gorgeous sew and wear.

I am a woman by the way and not a man as this username suggests. Thank you for your videos. I have just discovered them. I was a dress design trade student in the early 70's in Sydney, when the Australian clothing industry was the best. I worked in the design section of a few factories, and graded many patterns and cut out thousands of samples over the years, but never quite got to do much pattern making. I did the course at East Sydney and Randwick techs at night. This was very difficult, with only one night to find out how to make a skirt block and so forth. If you missed a night, you missed out on a vital part. You were hungry and tired, as you had been working a gruelling day in the factory. I have been making my own patterns over the years, but this technique brings me back to the real basics of what I was learning in those rushed sessions. Thank you and now I think I will be making improvements on my pattern making for the future.

The 2 d skirt..it probably fits a woman's body fine. The mannequin is a hard form, not human.
