    A nice informative video for the newbies! Thanks for making and sharing it. I've done the walk up to Orisson and the rest of the Camino in 2016. I too remember that feeling that "Surely we've gone far enough! It's got to round the next corner?" It seems to be far more than the two hours that the signpost says. Having said that Orisson is definitely worth stopping for. I wouldn't like to have to do the full jaunt to Roncesvalles in one hit. The weather over the top can be a real challenge not only in April but at any time of the year. The second part of the ascent is notorious for high winds.

    Nice scene inside the church in St Jean. I've walked the Francais more than once and each time I did I went to the church in St Jean and prayed for guidance and safety and when I got to Santiago I went inside the cathedral and gave thanks for completing the journey safely.

    Another brilliant Vlog Rachelle...and what a beautiful (Morning) voice. Not sure if I am misreading your expression ( and my apologies if I am) but you looked a little sad sat on the decking at Orisson, like you were wondering if you would spend the entire Camino alone. I predict 7 days......... 7 days from now in a similar situation it will feel totally natural to approach a table that already has pilgrims on it and say 'HI Buen Camino, I am Rachelle from LA, how are you guys'........ Looking forward to the next installment :)

    I really couldn’t believe it so not only did we sleep in the same bed but I also had the same position at the table at Orisson, what are the chances?
    I didn’t have a reservation in Arizona, and was happy and lucky that I was that able to stay in the room below yours ... the room wasn’t that great but I shared it with five other people.
    I recall that it was much darker in the morning and I was so much darker when we had dinner again it was August 31, 2019 and I arrived in Santiago on October 6.it was quite the adventure and I can’t wait to do it again within the next few years. Cheers

    • @IllGetThere
      @IllGetThere  4 роки тому

      Yes! It was my first time traveling alone in a foreign country. And while I walked many days with different people, I walked the majority of it alone. But you’re never really alone! Tons of fellow pilgrims especially if you’re doing the Francés. It’s extremely safe, but you should still keep your wits about you. Don’t be afraid to tag along with other pilgrims even for part of a day if you feel uncomfortable. Listen to your gut. Happy to answer any other questions you have. It was one of the best things I have ever done and want to do another Camino soon. Have faith and Buen Camino! 👣❤️

    Thanks excellent video ,just back from the camino also , personally i wouldnt see this as day 1 route (old disabled,unfit maybe) most of us used orisson as a break on the way to Roncesvalles 24.5 km away ,we had amazing weather and pushing ourselves (me and my ex both mid 50s) seemed a great way to ramp up our fitness and challange our comfort zones .
    not that i advocate walking all day ,orrisson to Roncesvalles took us 6 hours and all the stages we would arrive lunch time ,early afternoon to get an alburgue and look around where we were ,churches ect.

      Thank you so much for watching! And congrats on your Camino! Glad you enjoyed it and the physical challenge! I walked for many reasons and enjoyed some very short days (9km), some very long days (38km), and some very challenging routes (Ruta Dragonte). To me, there was a magic about the Orisson experience and I am so happy I stayed. That’s the beauty of the Camino-each person can experience it in a way that is fulfilling to them. 😊👣

    • @antonyincornwall435
      @antonyincornwall435 5 років тому

      i guess my comment was just to show to some who may be doing the route that Roncesvalles is possible but a challenge to the average person , your right that each person can experience it in a way that is fulfilling to them alot of people sent their packs on to the next stop ,to me it was a great lesson in decluttering ,you carry the burden you choose to add and question its value ,to me a valuable lesson .

      @@IllGetThere I love your reply. Walk the Camino your own way is what I keep hearing. This absolutely qualifies as a day 1 route because it was so for you (and many, many others). There's enough rushing and gatekeeping in the world; we don't need it on the Camino!

    • @IllGetThere
      @IllGetThere  5 років тому +1

      I enjoy hiking and found that to be good preparation physically. I also did a lot of research on what to bring, challenges to anticipate, and prayer for spiritual preparation. As for how long? I started really preparing a few months before, though many people take much more time and some, much less (or none-not recommended). Any preparation you can do is helpful but just take the Camino one day at a time.
